Hi Shae! That's pretty interesting, actually! How does it work with the two pledge pins? Do you wear one type for part of your pledging and the other for the next part? Or do you just wear one the whole time and which one it is depends on which is available from your National?

Optimist Prime 02-05-2002 08:27 PM

the Theta Chi Pledge/New Member button is oval with a white X and dark red for the parts inbetween the X.

AOIIBrandi 02-05-2002 09:11 PM

Thanks to everyone who voted for AOII, I really think it is quite beautiful. But, if I had to pck another one I really like XO, ADII, and SK.

The AOII pledge pin is a sheaf of wheat bound together with AOII stamped on it. I'm going to try and post a picture below...

You are right on the money, we have one for the first period of pledging, and the second for the short period of time between the first part of pledging and initiation.

I really must say that even if I wasn't an Alpha Xi I would have to choose my badge. I love the badges that are objects, they just look so unique and delicate. You can tell what organization a girl's from with out a close-up look at the badge. Kappa's badge is my second favorite, with Pi Beta Phi taking a close third!

I have the regular gold Quill right now, but someday I hope to be able to afford the Quill with the row of pearls and the single diamond at the tip. I wish you could still get jeweled silver badges....silver is all I ever wear!:)

DukeBlue 02-06-2002 02:00 AM

I just saw a picture of Sigma Kappa's scroll-edge badge, with 3 pearl points, and *that* is gorgeous. Adding that one to my list of favorites. ;) Also, Phi Mu...very unique and striking.

Katey Alpha Gam 02-11-2002 11:55 PM

I think AXO has an absolutely beautiful badge, I especialy love your policy on when a sister gets a 4.0!!!! I really like your new member pin too, I think the stick pin is a really distinctive thing!!!

satellitegrl 02-12-2002 12:28 AM

Im an Alpha Xi and I think my quill is ok...but its so overly simple. Not that I want something bling-blinging but at little embellishment would be nice.

But as for personal favorites I adore the Tri-Delts and the DZ's badges.

Those also seem to be quite popular on this board. :D

When I went through rush, I thought the AXD badge was a little funny looking. Of course I love it now!

But I do think that it looks best jeweled. Whereas some of the other pins look best plain. Get a fancy chapter guard and a lot of dangles to fancy it up. ;)

cash78mere 02-12-2002 04:48 PM

Katey-
Ok, maybe I'm out of college WAY too long, but what is our policy when a sister gets a 4.0? I can't figure it out!

At my chapter we get a pearl to hang from our guard chain when we get a 4.0-i think it' s the same everywhere.

cash78mere 02-12-2002 08:48 PM

thanks lyrelyre!

we definitely didn't do that at my chapter. there were a lot of sisters with 4.0s though. honestly, my entire chapter hated those guards (i want one now though). we thought they were pretty dorky

Katey Alpha Gam 02-12-2002 11:43 PM

ok, maybe it's something different by chapter. My friend told me that at her chapter, when you get a 4.0, the chapter puts a diamond on your badge. That's what I was told!

in case that link doesn't work try

and go from there

Badges

As an Alpha Gam, I'd also have to say I'm partial to my 14-pearls. But, I've always loved the Golden Lyre of Alpha Chi and the Tri-Delt crescent. Then again, there's that gorgeous Arrow and the Kappa Key. They are all so beautiful. And, we all wear them with pride.

Speaking of badges.....I'm finally getting around to buying my chapter guards and officer dangles. Does anyone know what the protocol is for dangles. If you held the same office for two years, do you buy two of the same dangle or just one??? Any insight? Thanks gang!!

Tom Earp 04-08-2002 03:55 PM

KCJAYHAWK, 1 per office held! More than that would be ostentacious! Wow a big word, wonder if I spelled it right!

I never held and ofice in my chapter of LXA.:(

If you ever get back to KC, let me know and you can have a chance to meet me!http://www.plauder-smilies.de/laugh1.gif:D

kcjayhawk1 04-08-2002 04:04 PM

Thanks, Tom!
I figured it would be a bit showy, but I didn't know what the rules are.

My bro was a Sig Ep at Pittstate. If I remember correctly, the houses are across the street from each other and they used to harass each other.

Tom Earp 04-08-2002 04:34 PM

Yep Hawk, but there was a meeting that I could not go to with the Fraternitys and Members of the Academis that said this better cease and desist or you are out of here!

LXA # 54 son is a SPE! Everytime there is some sh^# and He knows I am there, he looks for me or his Dad!

It is stupid as they better figure out any Greek is a minority and most would like to get rid of us!

Igornance is stupid! Find out or keep mouth shut! If it were only true!:(

navane 04-09-2002 11:17 PM

As far as the NIC badges go, I like the folowing:

Lambda Chi Alpha - It's just plain cool.

Theta Chi - The snake motif is very well-done.

Sigma Nu - I like the shape and I'm biased 'cause one of my friends was a member. :)

Delta Upsilon - It's kinda simple, but I dig the chased upsilon.

......Kelly :)

swissmiss04 04-10-2002 02:04 AM

prettiest badge

My personal fave is of course the SAI badge (the pipes of Pan w/ pearls...trust me it's really pretty). I also like AOII and Tridelt's, as runner's up :D

I may be wrong (and correct me if I am), but I've never heard of a rule stating that you can't have the same dangle twice. I've had sisters hold the same office for more than one year, and some sisters buy just one, others buy the same one twice!

Maharet 04-10-2002 05:28 AM

Hey,

Kappa keys are great...BUT the VINTAGE lazy Phi badges of Alpha Phi are wonderful!!!

:D

I just wanted to clarify why there are different Phi Sig badges... It depends on the chapter as to which one you get. The one with the sphinx head is less money, where as the one with the pyramid with nine sapphires, (jeweled badge) is more. Some chapters let the members decide which ones they want... Others have it regulated. Our chapter has the Jewled Badge. Every member initiated from our chapter will get that one.

Our New Member pin is a blue enamel pyramid, with a gold border. On the border it says "Diokete Hupsala." It's quite simple, but I like it!

Siobhan 04-10-2002 12:26 PM

I think number of dangles is just a personal preference, however I thought one pr dangle was enough, having 5 would be totally excessive :p

FuzzieAlum 04-10-2002 12:53 PM

I've held more than five offices, though, so if I wanted to get a dangle for each one, would that be too-too?

(I don't actually have a dangle. I'm still saving up for a pearl chapter guard.)

kristiAZD 04-10-2002 02:48 PM

Has anyone seen a dangle for Public Relations? I swear I look all the time and can never find one. They have a historian one and a T-shirt chair one, but i cannot find a PR one for the life of me. That's an Exec. position in my org. and I really want one!

Siobhan 04-10-2002 03:47 PM

PR is the same as historian (or maybe it's the same as house), it looks like a rolled up diploma or certficate or something along those lines.

aephi alum 04-10-2002 06:52 PM

FuzzieAlum, I held several offices too. I just got the dangles for the 2 highest offices I held (Panhel rep and ritualist) - I decided 6 dangles would look tacky :)

I do wish I could have done more to "personalize" my AEPhi badge... but it's a trade-off... since it is so simple and everyone has essentially exactly the same badge, we always got ours in time for initiation, so I was pinned with "my" badge, not a loaner.

FuzzieAlum 04-11-2002 11:54 AM

AEPhi alum, your badges are all jeweled with pearls, right? No choice of stones?

It is simple, maybe, but it is distinctive.

xok85xo 04-11-2002 02:21 PM

personally, i don't think too many dangles are tacky, i think they're fun! i tried to get as many dangles as i could (since i didn't hold any exec positions..just chairs) so to be special, since i was one of only like 4 jewish girls in my chapter i ordered a star of david dangle..:)

KillarneyRose 04-11-2002 04:54 PM

Dangles

I don't think a bunch of dangles are tacky at all (I have 5 myself). Each dangle was earned, so why would someone not want to wear them all? To me it is like someone in the military not wearing all the ribbons he earned!

One think I've never learned though, is what order the dangles should be placed on the chain. By order of the importance of the office or by order in which they were earned?

aephi alum 04-11-2002 05:12 PM

Yup. Same with chapter guards.

Phi Sigma Sigma! Phi Sigma Sigma! Go crazy eyed George!

But since I cant pick mine... I vote Pi Phi! Wooo!!!

I found a Pi Phi badge in an antique shop in Clarion (well really Shippenville, We have never had a chapter and were in the middle of NOWHERE! So it mus have flown here... but I couldnt rescue it... too much or I would have!! The shop's on the corner of PA 66 and PA 322.....)

DWAlphaGam 05-20-2002 09:30 AM

I've always thought that Tri-Delt's badge is pretty. They were one of the few chapters on my campus besides my own that had pin attire regularly.
As for the boys, I'm partial to Theta Chi's badge, although I'm biased because I'm pinned to a Theta Chi! ;)

Glitter650 05-20-2002 02:54 PM

rotfl Ali!!
Crazy eyed George hahahahahahaha Although MANY MANY people have told me that my badge looks like George Washingtion. (something, which I feel nationals needs to change :)) until last night when we were chatting I've never heard our badge called "crazy eyed george" You are too funny !

Greekgrrl 05-22-2002 03:19 PM

Is there anywhere to find pictures of the NPHC badges? I've always wondered what they looked like but they don't seem to be as easy to find pictures of online.

If there are no pictures online for some very good fraternity reasons, nevermind. :)

Again, since we can't vote for our own, I really like Kappa Alpha Theta's badge.

We all loved the Second Degree pin as well and were so bummed we only got it for a short time!
