Oklahoma won Swimsuit and Minnesota won Talent. She played the violin.
|
So far the winners have been:
Swimsuit: MS (Chi Omega) and OK (Gamma Phi Beta) Talent: NH (Alpha Epsilon Phi) and MN (Alpha Xi Delta) |
Miss Georgia won Swimsuit (Delta Delta Delta)
and Miss Florida won Talent (Delta Delta Delta) She twirled baton, despite tearing her ACL in rehearsal today! Congratulations, Tri Delta! |
This state has never won Miss America (in all its 93 years!) but Miss Idaho Sarah Downs (Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Beta chapter, University of Pennsylvania) has won the Fourpoints Scholarship for reflecting what the Four Points of the Crown represent: Scholarship~Service~Success~and Style. Congratulations!
Miss Idaho has won the Fourpoints award in each of the past three Miss America contests. Does any ZTA know whether Sarah was in the 2011 recolonization class at Penn? (she's age 23 now) |
Crystal Lee, Stanford Tri Delta, has won the Miss America STEM Schorlarship.

A great article about four of the contestants:

Is there still a Question from the Judges for the Top Five segment in the televised Miss America Pageant?
Considering 22 of 53 contestants are known to be NPC Greek, there will likely be a question regarding the UA situation (see other long thread elsewhere within GC). Yet another fun reason to tune-in the pageant ABC TV Sunday evening! Miss Alabama attends UA and is Greek (ZTA); have TMZ or ET cornered her regarding the issue? |

If there is a judge picked and that is their question all the women should be able to answer whether their greek or not. The situation is racism that occured within the greek community. Hopefully their pageant coaches are working with them now.
Still rooting on Kansas! |
Bumping to remind everyone of tonight's broadcast on ABC-TV. There's a one hour 20/20 Miss America Special tonight just before the pageant, too. Good Luck to all the(NPC Greek and non-Greek) contestants!
|
I remember when I watched the pageant as a little girl, the contestants would say which college they were a student or alumna of as they introduced themselves. Anyone else remember this? Or am I going crazy?
|
I remember!
|
These group production numbers are so dumb. Didn't see Miss Alabama in that godawful dress.
|
They don't do the parade of embarrassing state costumes anymore, do they?
|
Cool that they have 30 former Miss Americas there, but I wish they would have introduced them too!
Miss Kansas is America's Choice. |
Cheering like crazy for Miss Missouri, a TCU Theta!
|
Rooting for Miss Oklahoma...love how she worked some extra PR into her intro by mentioning chapter sister Kristin Chenoweth!
|
Greek women in the top twelve:
Miss Oklahoma- Kelsey Griswold (Gamma Phi Beta) Miss California- Crystal Lee (Delta Delta Delta) Miss Georgia- Carly Mathis (Delta Delta Delta) Miss Missouri- Shelby Ringdahl (Kappa Alpha Theta) Miss Florida- Myrrhands Jones (Delta Delta Delta) Miss Minnesota- Rebecca Yeh (Alpha Xi Delta) Also making the top twelve: Maryland, Connecticut, New York, Wisconsin, Texas, Kansas |
Miss Maryland looks like she is wearing a wedding dress.

eta - Worked in a hair flip in talent! |
Are they going to do the "we'll announce your name if you make it and then you do your talent right away" thing they did last time? I didn't like that. Give them some preparation time!
|
Ladies that also made the Top 15 were Miss Arkansas Amy Crain (Delta Delta Delta), Miss Kentucky Jenna Day (Alpha Delta Pi), and Miss Mississippi Chelsea Rick (Chi Omega).
So far I'm rooting for Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones. I can't imagine having to compete in that knee brace, but I love how they added sparkle to it to make it "pageant ready"! |
I'm all about Kentucky and Kansas right now.
|
What the heck just happened with the contestants not paying attention to names being called for talent?
|
OMG... singing opera is Miss Wisconsin's BACK UP talent? I can't imagine what a dead eye she must have in archery!
|
Miss Kansas - and alas, I wish she could have done archery.
|
Kansas..backup is singing and I don't think she is trained as a singer. Re not paying attention...I think they can't hear.
ETA: miss NY was darling. Could be a contender. Her yellow dress stood out too. |
I wish someone would play the flutophone for their talent. Haven't seen ventriloquism in years.
|
The two singers so far have been better than last year's singers by far.
|
She hit the notes, but I didn't really like her voice. My husband says I'm being too critical.
|
Had to yell at the TV when the camera cut to Miss California's freaking feet during her ballet routine. Do that for the irish dancer if you want, not for the ballet dancer!

Love Irish dancing! |

BTW...that Bollywood dance was awesome! |
Ouch! Miss Georgia. Ouch.
|
Really, Miss Georgia...every guy who's broken up with you??? All 2 of them? Who were apparently visually impaired?
Well, they must have had good hearing, though... |

I agree, I would have loved to see her archery skills. Ohhh... here comes Miss Texas! |
