More cuts coming...2 skit days coming next.

FSUZeta 08-13-2013 08:30 PM

If you are on Facebook, you can "like" Bama Panhellenic and see some photos of 2013 rush.

PearlGirl13 08-13-2013 08:40 PM

And if it hurts your SEC feelings to "like" Alabama, you can still see the pictures without any facebook commitment!

Love the pics! Just wish they'd post more. I'm looking forward to all of the excitement on Saturday. Good luck to all of the PNM's (and their moms) for tomorrow's invite card!

You might want to send your daughter some flowers -- a lot of parents send flowers or bid day gift baskets.

The local florists and gift shops will get the bid lists and deliver to the appropriate sorority -- but you need to order these in advance.

The gift baskets with sorority-themed trinkets seem overpriced for what they contain IMO, which is why I suggested flowers. I haven't used any of the gift shops recently so I'm a little reluctant to suggest a specific retailer, but other people here can probably make some recommendations.

Good luck to your daughter and hoping you all have a wonderful bid day!

Bamamom16 08-14-2013 09:19 AM

I got my daughter a gift basket from The Trunk. They carry lots of sorority related things. They also have lots of individual items for purchase for each sorority. You can pre-purchase and they ge the bid list early & send over a gift basket on bid day! Greek letter car stickers get har to come by, so make sure you get that if you get a chance to pop in!

FSUZeta 08-14-2013 09:52 AM

Car decal recommendations:

The new members love them! However, ZTA does not allow new members to have any items with our crest (coat of arms) on it until after initiation. Letters are fine.

I believe some other sororities have restrictions prior to initiation (maybe the gift basket businesses already know this?)

Bamamom16 08-14-2013 09:57 AM

That was the case with my daughter's sorority...no letters until after initiation, but initiation was early, so she had sme goodies to look forward to when it finally came around. As for the car decal, at Bama, they run out fast. Purchase ASAP...even if she can't display it yet.

SewSheKnits 08-14-2013 10:04 AM

Thank you for the suggestions! I'm going to plan on putting together my own Bid Day basket and sending it later in the week. That way, I can shop here (several big schools in our area and super cute shops carrying Greek everything) and get exactly what I know she'll love. Good tip on the car decals! I have time for that since she doesn't have her car at UA yet. I think The Trunk has been taking orders since Spring and they say delivery depends on when that order was placed so I'm thinking at this point, I may as well send a box from here. TBH, I just can't wait to go shopping for her! I've ordered flowers in the meantime.

Anxiously waiting to hear about the next invite card...

FSUZeta 08-14-2013 10:22 AM

She will love the things you pick out personally for her-and they may be different from the things in Tuscaloosa. You could mail the package to the sorority house-it creates a talking point as girls wander by and see all the cute stuff her mom sent!

What time do the girls get their lists today?

ladybug84 08-14-2013 10:40 AM

She got her schedule - 8 parties. Wow! I can breathe again until Friday morning.

FSUZeta 08-14-2013 10:45 AM

Great news! Good luck to her today!

travelmom 08-14-2013 11:00 AM

Traveldaughter was invited back to 8 for skit round, and they were her top 8. She is so happy and excited :). I've spent all this time preparing her for the worst but all seems to be going well.

SewSheKnits 08-14-2013 11:12 AM

DD was invited back to 7 for skit round...whew! So far, so good.

Congrats to Traveldaughter and Ladybug84's PNM!

FSUZeta 08-14-2013 11:23 AM

That is fabulous for all the girls!

Benzgirl 08-14-2013 12:54 PM

Typically, I'm disinterested in this recruitment other than for Bid Day, but I actually have a couple of Rec girls going through. I know both are still active in recruitment but don't know how many parties they have at this point. One is a legacy of one Bama chapter and one is not a legacy of any chapters. Can't wait for Bid Day.

Bamaalum 08-14-2013 01:48 PM

Does anyone know how SDT did on open house round and the rest of the week so far. I heard they are more active in formal recruitment this year.

DG Illinois 08-14-2013 01:54 PM

I have a few going through as well. First time ever since I'm in the Midwest, but I know 3 this year. Unfortunately I know zero about how anyone is doing. I would never call during rush, so unless they call me I am in the dark. I know Alabama prints their bid list so I'm hoping to see their names soon. Wishing everyone the best these last few days!

Yay, DG Illinois, and thank you for sending sponsor forms!
I'd love to know what's going on, too...but everything's locked down until bid day. :(

FWIK, they only participated in the open house (first) rounds, from a room in the stadium, which is right on Colonial Dr. and sorority row.
Apparently they are still there, open to any PNMs who have an "off" time period and want a cool place to rest.

It's great they are involved this year. I wonder what kind of impression they made on pnms

Oh thanks so much! I have to say my girls really did their homework and the packets they sent me were stunning! Seriously monogrammed and colored paper, beautiful pictures etc., they were unbelievable. I wish I knew how they were doing. I would love to be down there...after reading GC I would love to see a SEC recruitment first hand. The alums that help with it are amazing!:)

Girlmomx2 08-14-2013 10:04 PM

My last minute pnm has 4 invites for the next round and got dropped by all but one of her favorites. She is thinking about quitting, but I'm encouraging her to stick with it. Note to future pnms -please prepare for recruitment and get those recs!

Four invites is just fine - in the end, it all comes down to ONE anyway.
Yes, do encourage her to stick with it another go-round at least. Feelings, opinions etc. change daily - heck, even hourly!

Skit Round Cuts

So cuts have been pretty hard on everyone here. I know personally I've been disappointed everyday, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. I have two new favorites, but I'm very worried I will be dropped as well as a lot of girls in my Rho Chi group. Are cuts the worst after skit? I heard someone say that, but I don't know if it's reliable information. Wouldn't it be more of pnms dropping houses since we have to pick only three? I'm confused how rfm handles this.

Aphigal 08-15-2013 12:48 PM

It's mutual selection so you as a pnm are ranking houses and chapters are given a set number of invites that they can hand out in each round. RFM tries to give each pnm a full party card although for various reasons that doesn't happen. I would say if you get a full pref card invite you are doing awesome!
I know it sounds lame but it only take ONE house. It's like the Bachelorette...25 guys to date but only one in the end. It will work out hang in there you are tired and stressed.

FSUZeta 08-15-2013 12:54 PM

Great analogy Aphigal!

happilyanchored 08-15-2013 01:01 PM

And for all you know, at the end of the week you WILL get a rose ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

DubaiSis 08-15-2013 01:28 PM

Or a carnation, pansy... but there are always flowers at the other end of the rainbow!

Very true! Love it!

arrowlady 08-15-2013 02:35 PM

I have 5 rec girls going thru this year. Talked to one of the Mom's yesterday her daughter had 8 parties for this round and was happy, (some of her favorites cut her earlier but she has new favorites.
Her roommate is had either 6 or 7 but had lost her two favorites. (she was shopping for new favorites yesterday and today lol)
Third was down to 5 but happy with her list.

The others I haven't heard from yet, one is a stellar girl so I think she is probably having a good recruitment. The other is quiet and a little shy so hoping the best for her...

greekdee 08-15-2013 03:16 PM

It's great to hear some good stories, but there are a lot of disappointing ones as well. Cuts have been severe and surprising for many PNMs. I'm also hearing that among those receiving the most invites, not all are showing sensitivity towards those who didn't. No humility, no discretion and it's like rubbing salt in open wounds. While I'm sure some are just reacting to their own happiness and relief, some are just flaunting. This is unclassy, unacceptable and the rush counselors (forget what Bama calls them) need to address it, reminding them that their heartbreaking drop may come next round. Pride goeth before the fall, mean girls. I don't have a daughter in this fight (praise God), but know people who do and also have rec girls out in it. (Some are doing great, some are getting the average number of invites, but everyone still in the game.)

Did a lot drop after getting their invites yesterday?

DubaiSis 08-15-2013 03:25 PM

Have we mentioned the entitled hos on this thread? Unfortunately there are plenty of them in sorority life. The girls who don't have the same schedule as these byotches can at least be happy that their less than ideal schedule means they won't end up in the same pledge class as these girls. But sorority rush does have a way of teaching humility. Insha'Allah they will get theirs. Karma is a bitch.

I love my Debbie but girls...... they can be downright awful at times. Sometimes I think it's a cluelessness about others, they think the world revolves around them. Sometimes I think it's an insensitivity, lack of common sense, or lack of basic manners. Then there are those who are JUST NASTY and MEAN. Those girls are toxic and should be avoided at all costs. They are all about ME ME ME and they'll chew you up and spit you out before you know what happened.

I never wish bad things to happen to young people because there is so much growing up they have to do but there are some where you wish they would have a come to Jesus moment. Or somebody would give them a good kick in the you know what.

GJay39 08-15-2013 06:06 PM

Having read through this thread, I am even more proud of my daughter and her friends. They made a pact before recruitment not to discuss the number or name of chapters inviting them back each round. Instead, they help each other with wardrobe selection, practice conversation starters, etc.

I think they have the right attitude about this whole stressful process.

FSUZeta 08-15-2013 06:30 PM

They sound like really sweet girls.

MaggieXi 08-15-2013 06:41 PM

I think the lesson to be learned from this recruitment season is: don't be an entitled ho (pnm or active!)

So many possibilities with that last portion - window decals, pins, tshirts/sweatshirts, etc.

travelmom 08-16-2013 01:15 PM

Heard from traveldaughter. 3 invites...all three are groups she has love all along so she is happy. Says she's nervous, too, but at this point, if she maximizes her options, she is guaranteed a bid, correct? That's what the email said that we received today and she likes all three groups, so I don't see a problem. Good luck to all the other PNMs and Moms :)

ladybug84 08-16-2013 01:19 PM

Heard from my DD as well. Three invites and she's thrilled! I am so happy for her. Now, I'm off to pack and head to Tuscaloosa.
