They come from their small pond (HS) where they were most popular, Homecoming Queen, a shoo-in for everything, etc. and as resident Queen Bee of their high school, they've never really HAD to be nice to anyone to get anywhere. Then they get to recruitment and figure that it'll be the same way. Unfortunately, if these women are well-connected to the chapters they want, it might. However, if they're the type of Queen Bees who have a skewed perception of how desirable they are in the process (ex: you think that because you were Homecoming Queen, you're going to be an XYZ or ABC without knowing that these groups have had their minds made up about first round before you got to school) they're certainly in for a wake-up call. |
I think its a common misconception (blame the media or whatever) that sorority women only socialize with the girls in their organization and don't get along with other groups. When I think in many cases it is the exact opposite. Even though I'm sure there are rivalries and competition (especially during recruitment), I would venture to say that almost all the women in every house have friends in other chapters and they TALK.
So PNMs do not be rude, act snobbily, better than, stuck up, etc during recruitment. You could potentially be offending the girl who's bff and roomates with a sorority member in a house that you despertly want. |

Love looking at all the photos!! How many girls can each chapter facility house?
|
These are dorms...each chapter has a chapter room and a floor in the dorm. The rest of the girls live in other dorms or off campus. Not sure how many are housed on a floor. Anybody know average chapter size? I think it's around 200.
|
Each floor accommodates about 60 girls, I think. In addition to four-person suites there is a room for the president, a study room and maybe one or two three-person suites. Typically sophomores and officers live on the hall.

Thanks to all those wonderful pi chis. My daughter says hers is wonderful. She has also stated that all her parties have been great and likes them all. She had 7 invites back for her second round. We are from out of state and heard that there are some sororities that cut automatically. Should I be concerned with only 7?
|
My daughter enjoyed all of her parties today and said everyone was so nice. She was sure to thank the groups for inviting her back. She has four more parties tomorrow but has reported that, as of now, she could fit in any of the ones she has been to. I told her what Carnation said about PNMs being rude and she was shocked. She has not encountered anyone being rude to actives and was so surprised that anyone would even do that.

The chapters have no idea which other chapters have invited you back or how many parties you have on your schedule unless you tell them yourself.

I wanted to give an update on my daughter's recruitment at Auburn, but first I want to thank all the GC ladies for all the invaluable help you have provided for me in trying to prepare my daughter. Thank you all so much! She has had such a fun week! She has really liked something about every single sorority she has visited this week. According to what she is telling me it is soooo true that every sorority at Auburn is great! She is visiting the last sororities on her invite list today and then the girls will rank ...I think...the sororities they least want to go back to tomorrow. I know that there are going to be tough cuts tomorrow. Please say a prayer for these sweet girls and, of course, for all the moms.

Glad all of the daughters are doing so well!
Bid Day is Sunday, right? I'm hoping to see some new recruitment stories posted in the very near future! |
Thanks so much. Bid Day is actually on Monday at 10:00 in front of the new arena. I have been keeping notes as she sends them to me and if we are not devastated in the end I my write a recruitment story at the end of next week. If it doesn't end well and I think there are lessons that could benefit others I will probably let the wounds heal before posting a thread.

Here's hoping for happy news!

I have a question for about listing choices for pref night. The girls list 3, I assume they are in order of their preference, then do they list the remaing 4 in order of their preference? I hope I explained this well! Thanks!

If you are talking about after prefs, then the PNM lists on her bid card her order of preference. |
Thank you shirley and DoctorD!

Skit parties are ending in about half an hour. Any news on how this round went? I'm starting to have Auburn Rush update withdrawals!
|
My d said skit day was fun. She is down to three this round and although she has a favorite, would feel great with all of them. Very nervous about tomorrow though. She said it has been more stressful than she thought it would be and she is not an emotional girl.
|
The cuts have been rough on the Plains this year. Good luck, Tigers.
|
Mine had five today. She really loves two and has from the very first parties. Another one is growing on her. The other two she reports the girls are nice and, if invited back, she will gladly go to learn more about them. I am a nervous wreck.
|
Hang in there, Auburn moms. Only one more day of parties. Good luck!
|
I've been reading this thread for a couple of days and decided to post! My dau is going through right now also. She is an AU legacy to a chapter there, and has been attending the max amount of parties, but the cuts have been harsh with all the girls. 3 girls in her Pi Chi group were completely cut out today, and several had less than 5 parties when the total was 7. Seems like everyone is cutting pretty hard early in the week, and my fear is that a lot of girls will be going to 1 party or none tomorrow, and I hate that. The stress is definitely wearing on my daughter, and Monday can not get here sooner!
And to the point......does anyone know what quota will be? I heard 63 or 65? |
Quota is not set until after pref when all PNMs have turned in their signed bid cards. NPC has gone to a method (RFM - Release Figures Methodology) that will place the most women. As a result, the computer will take the women's choices and the chapter bid lists and compute what quota will place the most women in the preferred choices. With this method, as long as you have "maximized your options" (attended every party for which you had an invitation and open slot in your schedule, you will get a bid to one of the groups you have listed.
All this is to say, we have no way of knowing until all women are matched and the lists released to the public. |
Thanks so much for that answer, it almot sounds like rocket science to me!
If they are maximizing the number so more girls will receive bids, thats awesome! I'm thinking from 7 parties today, my dau will have 3 tomorrow, hopefully. That will give her plenty of options for her to make her decision. Its been hard to keep my mouth shut through all this, but one more day, and then it'll be over. YAYY! |
It sort of is! Quota can move up or down depending on what number places the most women. So while quota may sometimes sound low, if there are a good number of quota additions and more women get placed, then it's a good thing.
|
So, if I am understanding this right, if my d gets even one call back tomorrow she should get in?
|
She should - but that's a toughie if it's only 1 invite. But if she had a full schedule today, it's likely she will also tomorrow.
|
The cuts on Pref night are tough.....I am hoping that at least one my dau's top 3 will carry her through. 2 of her top 3 would be even better of course. Of course she wasn't thrilled with her 'legacy' chapter and ranked them at #5, which she could very well be going to as well. They only ranked their bottom 4 today.
|
Does Auburn have guaranteed placement? I was under the impression that they do not and PNMs can go bidless even with full pref schedules.
|
With RFM, if you have a full schedule at pref you cannot go bidless UNLESS you SIP. If you go to all 3 and put all 3 on your card, you will get a bid at Auburn. Guaranteed placement means that no matter what you do, if you sign up for recruitment, they'll put you somewhere. I think there are only 1 or 2 places that do that. Everywhere else that uses RFM - and that's most campuses - as long as you "maximize your options" - you will get a bid.
|
Hoping and praying for 3 parties tomorrow then, and 3 parties that dau will like! I would hate to see her only put 1 or 2 on bid sheet tomorrow, lessens the chances considerably I'm sure. So we shall see.........

There is no way that can happen under RFM because there are no limitations on quota additions. So, if she has maximized her options - and mind you, PNMs may not admit that they didn't - she will get a bid. The unfortunate thing is that many women don't like that they got their 3rd choice and don't show up or leave the next day. If they were all happy to get the 3rd choice, a certain chapter at Alabama would no longer be getting 25-30 QAs as they would be the largest group on campus. Same at Auburn...
|
Not an advisor, but FWIW Auburn Panhellenic's website has the slides from Camp War Eagle and on slide 26 it states "There are 105 women who comprise that 2.20% [of PNMs released on Bid Day from 2008-2011]. All of them neglected maximizing their preference options."
So they don't come out and say "you will get a bid if you maximixe your options" they do say the only ones to not receive a bid didn't. |
They are placed - they just don't like their placement. Sorry, that doesn't equate to "I didn't get a bid but went to all 3 prefs" And I would like to qualify all this by saying that a chapter may find out information about a PNM which may render her not a "good fit" for them at the last minute and can talk with the Greek adviser about said information and not be required to have her on their lists...if you get my drift....
|
^^Really? I've been doing this recruitment thing a long time and I thought once they were on your list they were on your list. Is this a green book rule or at the discretion of the GL Advisor?
