Those photos are jaw-dropping - the sisters and PNMs look so put-together, and so attractive, and their dresses are so cute.

I'm really glad I went to school when (the 80s) and where (PSU) I did - we had sisters with curly hair and straight hair, very tall and very short. When I see pictures from that time, the sorority girls look much less uniform.

This group would intimidate the hell out of me. Plus everyone has bone-straight hair - mostly blonde - and looks to be about the same height and weight. The Rho Chis (who are dressed for comfort) look far more like what I remember college girls looking like!

Good luck to all.

(The less said about the video, the better.)

als463 08-16-2011 11:25 AM

I love how the one woman dressed like a prostitute in her picture has the audacity to call these girls out. Way to go. Keep livin' the dream as you take picures of yourself to post on a website so you can feel good.

Don't be intimidated! 99.9% of the girls look like the Rho Chis any other time. Remember, the ones in front are very, very carefully chosen to give the most glamorous first impression possible. There's an art to "stacking the door" as they call it - for impressions AND for pnysically getting those faces in the door.

I thought the video was deliberately cheesy and cute!

agzg 08-16-2011 12:18 PM

I thought the video was fun. Seems like they all were having fun, at least. People place too much emphasis on looking "cool" when it's way more fun to be a big old dork who does dorky things.

p. 66 and p. 81....they look like conjoined ("Siamese") twins!
And there is no "founded at UA" date for Phi Mu.

Well, we were perming over color over perm, so it's just the opposite end of the spectrum. We had sisters with bone straight hair who cried because it wouldn't curl.

They will wise up in a couple years like we did and stop abusing their hair.

Ok, worried mom here. My daughter is rushing this year. This morning she found out she was only invited to four philanthropy day visits. Might she be invited to zero on the next round and just dropped from the process? I'm scared that she will be standing in a crowd and find out she was the only one in her group that got a zero in the next round. How is this handled?

It's great that she got 4 back. Some girls aren't as lucky. It only takes ONE, so count your blessings so far.

If she is released from recruitment she will likely get a phone call from her Recruitment Counselor before the next round begins so she won't be that girl standing in a crowd without any invites.

Relax and breathe. She's still got 4 houses to visit.

I know nothing about Bama, but at every school I've ever heard of, she gets a private call from her Rho Chi prior to arriving at the invitation pick-up spot if she has indeed been dropped. That said, take a deep breath, four is still plenty of invites at this point.

DubaiSis 08-16-2011 01:57 PM

Uniformed, if you read through some live threads here, you will see some girls taking big cuts early and doing just fine and others getting back a full or nearly full schedule and then getting cut out completely. So in short, her having a shortened schedule doesn't say anything about her result. Try to help her relax and enjoy the chapters she still has, and we'll all hope the best for you and your daughter.

BluPhire 08-16-2011 06:41 PM

Since there is already a thread for Alabama recruitment I felt it best to place this here.

Enjoy

Anyone else see Anderson Cooper's "take" on this? I have to admit, I laughed pretty hard!

It was also posted on Tosh.0's Facebook page today. It's preeeetty painful to watch. I was a Rho Chi for two years, one on Panhellenic Exec., and I would have refused to rap!

Some people are going to make rude and ridiculous comments regardless. I thought it was very cute as well...especially being NPHC and not accustomed to seeing this.

LOL yes :D

Gung-Ho-Chi-O 08-17-2011 10:01 AM

I would love to say something positive but that video was pretty embarrassing on many levels. Perhaps these girls should have watched the Kappa's at Baylor do their Kappa Jam...it was cute :) Anyway, I would love to hear Anderson Cooper's take on this...where can I find it? Is there a link? Thanks ladies!!

I agree. I'm really surprised something like this came out of Alabama considering what a high profile sorority recruitment they have. I understand being funny and poking fun at yourself, but in order for it to come off well it has to be VERY well done done. This really misses the mark, IMHO. It just doesn't fit with the highly polished Alabama recruitment that is presented to the world.

DubaiSis 08-17-2011 10:21 AM

A bunch of rich white girl wiggas is what's wrong with it. I'm assuming that wasn't their intent, but that's how it came off - to me anyway.

That's the whole point.

Kind of like how the gorgeousest sorority at my school dressed up in overalls and farmer clothes for Meet the Greeks.

bamamama14 08-17-2011 10:43 AM

Just found out my rec girl is attending 10 of 11 parties during philanthropy round (first invitational) at UA. She is a UA legacy at 2 houses, several generations removed though. And an OOS girl. Hoping she finds her home.

The video is silly, but not national news worthy, IMHO. Aren't there more important things to report on? Guess even news directors need a diversion from politics and the bad economy.

I get that. My point is that the execution was poor not the content. It could have been a great skit, but it was so poorly executed that it just made them look bad.

Gung-Ho-Chi-O 08-17-2011 03:00 PM

TriDeltaSallie...I agree with everything you've pointed out! It doesn't fit with the highly polished Alabama Recruitment that is presented to the world...no truer words :)

Nhfulmer 08-17-2011 03:40 PM

I must admit I'm a little embarrassed by it. It just isn't what I expect from the Bama Greek Affairs office. G & K, if you read this - sorry!

FuturePNMMom 08-17-2011 06:07 PM

I saw the Auburn KD video first, it makes this one look so much better! Sometimes I don't know what these girls are thinking. :)

Just interested 08-17-2011 06:13 PM

They are having a good time and being silly. The only problem is they post it on utube for a review.

scrapcat 08-17-2011 07:03 PM

The video is funny! I found the Anderson cooper link: http://youtu.be/eNMX8_PTwh4

I think that's it exactly. I also thought Anderson Cooper gave it the serious treatment it so richly deserved.

I should disclose that I have a huge crush on Anderson, so I may have a bias.

Does anyone know recruitment for Delta Gamma works?

Does a PNM who is going through recruitment have to withdraw before interviewing with DG?

Will DG be taking quota?

Thanks!

Titchou 08-17-2011 10:00 PM

Yes, many of us do.

Yes, should not be participating in formal recruitment while interviewingx with Delta Gamma.

No, they will be taking average chapter size, which will be determined after formal recruitment but somewhere around 260.

Go to www.deltagamma.org for more detailed information regarding dates and to sign up for an interview.

Or, you could just talk with the Greek Life office at UA....

DG is conducting interviews while FR is still taking place? Is that normal? I thought, in most colonizations I'd heard of, they began interviews after FR.

I got a postcard to thank me for my recs, and it said interviews will be Aug 18-25. Then they will have an invite-only pref event on Aug 27. Bid day is Aug 28.

This is what I heard as well. I understood that it's OK for a woman to go through FR and then NOT sign a pref card. Let her go through the process and make sure those houses are not her home FIRST, and then withdraw and continue on with DG's interview process.

Due to the large number of women who will go thru the colonization process, they are interviewing both weeks. During FR, they are interviewing those who signed up only for the colonization (they are many) and any women who drop out of FR.

They've been told to expect several hundred women to interview so they've set it up this way to handle them all.

It's always been allowed to do this everywhere. No one can force you to sign one if you don't want to do so.

Of course, but I was just clarifying. What you said below made it sound like (to me, anyway) that if someone wants to be considered for DG colonization, they should not be participating in FR at all. Which is not the case.

Beaumom 08-18-2011 08:09 AM

Thank you for the information!

We have a hometown girl going through. Hoping she finds the right fit. When I asked about DG she was unsure about the process. And for some reason thought they were only taking 60 girls?

Our hometown is filled with DG alumni!

I told her to ask the Rho Chi.
(This is almost as bad as when my own child went through recruitment!)

Gung-Ho-Chi-O 08-18-2011 09:46 AM

Thank you scrapcat for posting the Anderson Cooper link...hilarious! I am wondering if any of you ladies have a link to the rap the KD's at Auburn made before it was taken down...heard it was pretty cute & I am really anxious to see it :) Thanks ladies!

FuturePNMMom 08-18-2011 10:43 AM

Thanks for the link to the Anderson Cooper video. I too have a crush on him! :D

The Bama video was cute and they were having fun without taking themselves too seriously. Personally I would have just kept it inhouse for the PNMs. I saw the KD video yesterday, but can't find it today. It was cute, but much too long. They repeated themselves quite a bit.

FuturePNMMom 08-18-2011 10:45 AM

Oh I forgot, really wish we were getting more info on Bama recruitment. Inquiring minds (much nicer than nosey :) ) are dying to know.

bamamama14 08-18-2011 10:47 AM

I agree, We don't have any PNMs or Moms posting this year. Of course my daughter can't share anything, and the actives may not know any numbers anyway.
