My boyfriend and I have come to the agreement that all of our children (once we are married and start the our family) will have professional names. Some people may be offended and say that I'm biasing to a "white" society but regardless of what people think my children will be respected by there names and by the way they live there lives and quite frankly as a business professional who much respect do you think someone named "Ovary Alize" will get?

Some names I've heard of are:
1. William Williams (not all that bad, is acceptable)
2. Moet Alize (a little girl in DC)-I frown on that name
3. Dysheki (come on now what's up with that)
4. Ebony and Ivory (children of an interracial couple the lighter baby named Ivory and darker Ebony starting the children off with an early complex)
5. Breon (rhymes with Freon)
6. John Three (enough said)
7. Cassade Joy (was this thought of in the detergent aisle)
8. Lucifer (what in the?)-The devil himself huh
9. Macintosh (interesting but still not all that great of a name)
10. Bluejay (hey if Raven, Robin, Bird, and Crow are acceptable why not Bluejay)-What is really going on? (At least they call him BJ for short.

Ovary Alize? If a child is ever named that, somebody's parents need to be shot. Period. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/rough/xyxgun.gif
Yes, I know that we should raise our children to have aspirations of doing the hiring. But as long as some 90% of people of color don't work for ourselves, names and stuh will be taken into issue.

Kisha 08-19-2002 03:25 PM

I don't have the most politically correct name, but believe it or not, I met not 1, but 2 other people of another race named Kisha spelled the same way.

Interesting name. My friend's cousin named her daughter

nikki1920 08-20-2002 09:37 AM

That is cute. I'm all for naming your child what you want, but you also have to realize that this person will carry that name for life. Come on, OVARY??!! WTF??

Y'all gots to STOP!

While we're on simple names, let's hope George Foreman doesn't have any more sons ...

Anyhow, I do the newsletter for the school I work at. Earlier this year we got a birth announcement. The little girl's name is ... (drum roll please) ... Alize Joule (rhymes with Boule, accent marks and eythang) Vargas. Our staff CTFU.

My cousin named her second child TaKeela (phonetic for tequila).

When I was 11, my hairdresser's cousin had still not given her daughter a name after two weeks. She heard my beautician call me over the phone and gave my name (Deseree) to her baby.

Wendex1920 09-20-2002 08:25 AM

DC_Zeta1920 06-23-2005 02:26 PM

some of these names are ridiculous...just pure ignorance at its best

These parents must want these children to have "KICK ME" signs pinned to them. :(

Honeykiss1974 06-23-2005 03:04 PM

Ok, why I do know a boy named Breon, spelled like that an everything? LOL

zphi1920 06-23-2005 05:05 PM

LOL:D

rocketgirl 06-23-2005 07:42 PM

I have some names:

3. I know a girl named Almond Joy
4. I have a friend who named her baby girl Wokhada (sounds like work harder)

I do want to name my daughters (if and when i get a husband) Annalise, Veronica, Victoria, or Annmarie. I think I just like old names, lol.

DC_Zeta1920 06-23-2005 08:18 PM

@ Rocketgirl

I love old names too. I want my child(ren) to have names they and others are able to spell and pronounce. Growing up I hated my name (Stephanie) but with these names out here that are allegedly "unique",I appreciate my name more and more.

Inquizitive 06-23-2005 10:47 PM

I know a set of twin boys by the name of Hennessy and Courvoisier.

I might have mentioned this in another thread but...

Ja'Miara Shirneal

Ja = taken from her daddy's name
Miara = miracle - because her mom was over 45 and morbidly obese when she gave birth

Shir = Shirley - her aunt
Neal = Neal - her uncle

I actually like the name but it is kinda crazy! And the child is the sweetest brightest baby EVER!

DigitalAngel126 07-06-2005 01:40 PM

I don't know what it is about Indiana, but I've met more people with crazy (read: Stupid) names here....

Let's see, there's Rusty Brown...I graduated with Jack Daniels..Also graduated with a Sharica. The best, though, was The Lloyds. Lloyd being the last name, these were their children: Moses, Ephram, Shakina, Isrea (iz-ray-uh), Lauranona, Welcome, Unique, and Lydia. I don't know how Lydia got off so easily, but...yeah. These are real people, I know all of them but Isrea. Such a shame. *smh*

My bf has a cousin named Toy...
I know someone who knows someone named Lunch...

And one of my good friends is named Wyzscx. I think his parents literally put together a bunch of letters together. We used to joke around and call him Why Sex but really he just went by his middle name, Merfil. It's a combination of his parents names, Merlinda and Filamon or something like that. Merf for short.

Senusret I 07-09-2005 11:28 AM

I know that's your friend...and for bonus points, I think everyone in your chapter is hot...

but Wyzscx? That's messed up. :(

Is Wyzscx pronouncable or is it like a symbol instead of a name?

Believe it or not, this actually used to be sort of common many years ago in most of the country (especially the South) with a high percentage of black folks (maybe very poor folks generally). Folks named their sons Sir, Mister, General, Major, etc. to provide the respect they couldn't get anywhere else. Much like you indicated, someone would have to call him "Major," all the time, for example, which maybe the only time the boy/man would get any respect in the land of Jim Crow and segregation--whenever his name was called/said.

Of course, this has generally been out of fashion for at least a generation or two by now though, so to have seen it recently...

I know someone who's first name is Doctor (i.e. Doctor Elaine White). All of her certificates and such say Doctor so & so.

I work at the corporate office for Kay jewelers, and I got a call from an associate at one of the stores, I had forgotten to get her name, so at the end of the conversation I said I'm sorry I didn't catch your name, and she said what sounded like Baby Girl. So I said what was your name again and she said Baby Girl.

So I looked it up in the company directory and sure enough there was BabyGirl plain as day:eek:

SeriousSigma22 08-01-2005 07:30 PM
