My wedding veil was attached to a Tiara type thing. I wonder if I should just pull out the whole thing to wear, since it will be my wedding anniversary and everything.

I also bought some English Breakfast tea to drink in the morning while watching. I just hope I like her dress. I would hate to be disapointed. :p

AGDee 04-26-2011 05:52 PM

This whole thing is giving me the creeps big time. I hope it has a better ending than Diana and Charles. I don't think it is possible to be prepared for the life that Kate is about to be thrust into no matter how old she is or how much living she has done. I find myself feeling sorry for her and concerned for her.

ETA: I guess I'm Dee Downer

Anyone hear about the Royal Guard who insulted Kate on Facebook? Honestly, "nothing's sacred anymore." I forget that the members of the Royal Guard are humans like anyone else. Underneath that uniform was an 18yo kid with not quite enough common sense.

Yeah it is kind of weird to think of them as "people" much less as an 18 year old. I know that's kind of on purpose too, but geez. Also it seems like he's in more trouble for saying "pakis" than the insults to Kate.

Oh, absolutely, especially since it will be your anniversary!

I'm thinking Earl Grey (in china), with scones and maybe a mimosa or two!

Royal Weddings Past

Ok so you all have gone way past my interest in the wedding, but here's some past photographs of royal weddings.

Also in interesting news, one of my younger sister's sorority sisters from college is on the Royally Mad BBC America show.

Apologies for the size:

I am taking the day off (first vacation day since my honeymoon in October) and heading to my mom's for a party. I am bringing my box of tea from the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC, supposedly commissioned by the Queen. And scones.

kddani 04-28-2011 08:30 PM

So what coverage is everyone watching? Right now I have it set to DVR BBC, but it's not HD.

BetteDavisEyes 04-28-2011 09:28 PM

I'm caving mainly out of curiousity but what the hell. Not sure how much of the ceremony I'll actually watch before nodding off but I definitely want to see the dress & her getting out of the car & entering the church. From there, I'll play it by ear b/c I do have to work (BOO!). Getting excited! :)

Drolefille 04-28-2011 09:52 PM

Photos: The UK gets ready

33girl 04-29-2011 12:40 AM

Watched a bio of Elizabeth II & they showed footage of her and Prince Phillip when they were young. Did anyone else look at him and see William in him??

christiangirl 04-29-2011 02:36 AM

^^^Yup!

Ugh, I'm fading fast. According to the sequence of events, the wedding doesn't start at 1am here like I thought. The guests start arriving at that time, the actual shindig starts at 3. I think I'll nap for a bit and then tune in at 2:45am or so.

sweetmagnolia 04-29-2011 02:51 AM

I'm thinking about watching the CNN coverage, so I can get my Anderson Cooper and my Royal Wedding fix, all at once.

ETA: New titles being announced! William and Kate will also be Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

Beryana 04-29-2011 03:17 AM

as well as Earl (and Countess) Strathearn and Baron (and Baroness) of Carrickfergus

Well that's a mouthful!

momof4girls 04-29-2011 04:20 AM

My husband went to Starbucks and bought me scones for this morning. :)

DrPhil 04-29-2011 04:24 AM

Oh snap, am I subconsciously staying awake to watch the Royal Wedding?

I could've sworn I didn't care but then I couldn't go to sleep. I really don't think I care, though. LOL. I was watching some random movie on another channel and then I remembered that E! News is showing the Royal Wedding. The wedding begins in 1 hour. I shall go back to not caring soon...I hope.

I'm loving seeing the celeb guests...but I don't care. :)

Proverbs31 04-29-2011 04:37 AM

I'm up early watching the coverage - managed to get 6 hours of sleep. :-)

CNN has nice little blurbs about the wedding details and royal family on the screen.

NinjaPoodle 04-29-2011 05:24 AM

The Boys look handsome. I really think Diana would be so proud of them.

I teared up a bit when they walked into the Abbey. :o

They talk about hats like we talk about purses or shoes. :)

christiangirl 04-29-2011 06:28 AM

Grrrr I overslept and missed her walking in!

Trust me, you will have PLENTY of chances to see it in replay!

Tulip86 04-29-2011 07:25 AM

That dress! Wow.

Love all the fascinators the guests are wearing.

I sure hope so because I realized I missed the vows, too!

How beautiful. Gosh, those church bells! And the horses were so elegant but definitely very jaunty. It was awesome watching the wide shots of all the horses, it looked like they were in fast forward with all their riders bouncing in time to each other. :p

Oh I do wish them well. That was such a beautiful wedding and they look so happy. Except during those long prayers when Kate looked a bit glazed over and William was staring around. :D

AlphaFrog 04-29-2011 07:31 AM

If I hadn't given my tiara/veil to my sister-in-law for her wedding, I probably would have dug it out. It was pretty and I hope she passes it on to more family.

ASUADPi 04-29-2011 07:59 AM

I WANT HER DRESS!!!!!

NinjaPoodle 04-29-2011 08:00 AM

I love the church bells!

baci 04-29-2011 08:26 AM

The bride did not "wow" me like I had hope. Overall, everyone looked lovely.

SydneyK 04-29-2011 08:28 AM

Wow. What a short kiss!
The dress is still lovely, though. :D

ETA: The second kiss was better.
And, ITA about the church bells - that was one of my favorite parts.

NinjaPoodle 04-29-2011 08:39 AM

^^^ I agree that #2 was better.

ForeverRoses 04-29-2011 08:42 AM

Love the dress, didn't really like her bouquet though. Kiss #2 was great. I loved playing spot the royal family memembers.

Oh and dear India Hicks, Margarita Armstrong-Jones is NOT Lady Sarah's daughter. It's her niece.

That's why I DVRed on BBCAmerica and CNN. Only saw a little bit this morning -- we'll watch it tonight.

We're still wondering what happened to our invitations. I am, after all, William's cousin on the Spencer side -- at least that's what my cousin, the current family geneologist claims. I always forget exactly how it works; we're something like ninth cousins. I need to ask him again. Oh well. I'm not sure I could have gone to London this week anyway. So there.

Currently, the English Cross of St. George

http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/g/gb-eng.gif

is flying outside our house. (I put it up for St. George's Day last Saturday and left it up for today.) Maybe later today, I'll switch it out with the Scottish Cross of St. Andrew:

Hi, I'm MysticCat and I'm a Total Britophilic Nerd.

AlphaFrog 04-29-2011 08:59 AM

So, since she's Princess William of Wales, Duchess of Cambridge, but will use the Duchess title as her "official" title, will people (or, I guess are people supposed to) refer to her as Princess Kate, Lady Kate, Duchess Kate??

BBC America will probably replay

Other random monarchy questions: if William becomes king someday, is she as a former commoner eligible to become queen? If so, and William dies before her, does she remain queen, or does it pass to the next heir?

I'm sure someone will chime in with more detail than either of us care to know, but no. She's not an heir to the throne, just Queen Consort...it's like when George VI Elizabeth became Queen, and not her mom.
