It does look like that. I was just looking for an alternate explanation!

Tried my hand at a verse for Alpha Xi Delta...

"And here's to Alpha Xi Delta in double blue and gold,
Our Quills in our hands and o'er our hearts we hold.
The sisterhood of women of our Fraternity
Inspiring each other since 1893!"

We actually adjusted the motion a few years back to make it look less like a drinking motion, but that is the idea and where it came from (rumor has it that this tradition was originally a drinking song, but I'm not sure about that).

And yes we walk very calmly into the houses, it is actually an infraction at the school to be loud after the toast!

I think the walking calmly at the end of the "toast" adds an air of elegance and mystery.

I love both quotes!

There are so many times I wonder how different my life would have been had I gone to W&M. FWIW, I had a full scholarship but my parents thought (correctly) that I was too young & immature to accept it. I went to Pitt, supposedly for a year, but pledged ADPi, which isn't at W&M, even though I was a Kappa legacy. *sigh* Things that you wonder, years after the fact!

thetalady 10-11-2012 12:50 PM

I gotta say that I love the song & the spirit of all the chapters singing; however, I kind of hate the arm motion. It looks weird! Doesn't look like swinging a tankard to me, the motion starts too high. A toasting motion goes up, but this looks like just right to left. I don't think sorority women swinging tankards is a good message to send anyway...

(grumble, grumble, grumbles the stuffy old alumnae!)

Maybe the motion was modified over the years? *uneducated guess*

I love this video! Its so sweet

sherriahstargir 01-03-2013 07:39 AM

On campus my school is gaining more sororities on campus and I would be so happy to go through a real rush. Maybe as a greek community we can come up with our own tradition.:D

Anyone can think of making a Phi Sigma Sigma verse?

BadSquirrelBeta 01-04-2013 01:03 AM

How neat! This would be a really cute way for the PXs to do a reveal with this kind of theme too. Great spirit! Love it!

NinjaPoodle 02-15-2013 10:41 PM

TTT for Spring Recruitment :) Ahh, who am I kidding? This is just one of my favorite vids!

I tried:
And here’s to the phi sigmas, the king blue and gold,
The sapphire and sphinx are on what we always hold
Our bond is something that never comes untied
With our sisterhood we will always AIM HIGH!

The "aim high" would be the emphasized section.

NinjaPoodle 07-08-2013 09:45 PM

Since the "season" is right around the corner, I thought I'd bring this up for the newbies. :) Enjoy.

Thank you, NinjaPoodle!! This is one of my favorite threads!

YW! Mine too! :)

ASTalumna06 07-09-2013 10:53 PM

Ok, here's mine for AST:

Here's to Alpha Sigma Tau,
our colors green and gold,
the anchor is what keeps us strong,
our love, the yellow rose.
We sing it loud, we sing it proud,
young and old, you'll hear it,
'cause as the Alpha Sigma Taus
we believe in BEAUTY OF SPIRIT!

:)

I absolutely love this video. I wonder if they have a more resent version?

honeychile 08-15-2014 11:49 AM

If there is a more recent version, I'd love to see it!

I looked around and couldn't find anything. The W&M Greek life office doesn't have an recent version on their utoob channel. If there is one out there, it's from someone who did it individually.

NinjaPoodle 07-23-2015 06:58 PM

Since it's the latter part of July and the PHC recruitment season is upon us, I shall bring this back to the top for the newbies. :)

flirt5721 07-24-2015 10:38 PM

How did I miss this thread for two years. Loved it.

AGDCanada11 07-26-2015 02:10 PM

Bumping this one! :)

Benzgirl 07-26-2015 06:19 PM

One for Alpha Sigma Tau

My Facebook Memories brought the video for the toast up for me today, so of course I google for the lyrics and *boom*back to GreekChat! I should have known!

Anyway, I read through a few pages since "post 32" and as of yet, did not see a verse for my dear Alpha Sigma Tau, so I've written one. Here goes!

And here’s to A S Tee-ee
The emerald green & gold
The yellow rose, the anchor
With it’s steady hold
A circle of friendship
Loyal and carefree
Alpha Sigma Tau women
Anchored for Life are we!

I wrote one for AST just a little further up on this page :) But I like yours, too!

jennie3576 01-20-2016 11:09 PM

I saw it!! After I posted, of course. It's great!

NinjaPoodle 06-20-2016 03:46 PM

I know it's early in the summer (first day actually) but I see a lot of views in the recruitment forum that would warrant this thread. Enjoy and good luck to you all during your recruitment season.

honeychile 06-20-2016 04:57 PM

July is starting to wind down and I thought of this video. Please enjoy and wishing NPC'ers a happy and successful recruitment season 2017! NP :)

phoenix16 07-19-2017 11:56 PM

This is amazing! I wish we could do this, but it would take forever with how many chapters we have.

LyreLover128 08-18-2017 09:43 PM

I can't believe W&M's toast is on here! I'm around in an advisory capacity and will try to take a new video for y'all this year!

The panhel toast is so special to us. I didn't realize it was weird/not done elsewhere until many years later.

DiWantstoTravel 08-20-2017 05:05 PM

I would love to see this year's version!

LyreLover128 08-23-2017 07:00 PM

Spoiler alert: it doesn't ever change. ;-)

GoldBows 08-23-2017 10:48 PM

This is so lovely! One of my best friends is an Alpha Chi alum from W&M.

NinjaPoodle 07-05-2018 09:24 PM

Since it's July, and I see the rec's and such topics are active, thought I'd bump this up. Cheers!

honeychile 07-06-2018 03:43 PM

I wonder if our clemsongirl was involved in this lately? :)

How? Is she the NPC advisor for the campus?

DeDeLo 07-08-2018 09:41 PM

That was real nice what those sororities did as one. I wish everyone could show that spirit and togetherness.

Something like that, IIRC.

TriDeltaSallie 07-09-2018 10:28 PM

I've been on GC forever and this is the first time I've seen this thread. That is a fantastic tradition!
