Some girls at the school I suspect some of those to be from may not speak English as a first language.

Or understand that putting something out on T witter then saying "Shh! Don't tell people" isn't the brightest idea.

What I assumed was a mother posting about her daughter:

So my 18 years of talking about U of I worked, how come the talk about Alpha Gamma Delta didn't. She joined Kappa Kappa Gamma! It is right next door. Do you think she got the address mixed up?

Most have been some other U of I, because those buildings aren't even close here.

She probably means Illinois since Bid Day just happened for them IIRC.

You think? We had rush over a month ago.

I believe she was referring to the University of Illinois.

Ahh! Haha I'm sorry y'all! Pardon me, I had three tests that day and was not all with it.

KSUViolet06 09-23-2010 10:31 PM

Checked out the promotional FB group for an upcoming sorority colony started by the colonization team for PR purposes (has info about the sorority, contact info for the national peeps involved, etc).

I saw this post from a girl (I'm going to assume she's a PNM) on the group's wall:

Hey XYZ girls, how's it going? I'm going to post my number on here if you guys want to hang out. I figure we all should since we're future sisters!

A national rep kindly commented on it stating that colony recruitment hasn't started yet and that being in the FB group doesn't = being a member.

Oops.

Benzgirl 09-25-2010 03:28 PM

Everytime I see someone post on Facebook that they are a Baby Hooter, I think of, well...you know...pre-teen Hooter-girls.

First thing that came up:

"I just shat on the floor. Happy GVSU Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment! I smell like death!"

LOL

Chi O's I know call them baby hoots...which is way less disconcerting.

I don't know if the Chi Omegas at my school used 'hootie', but I think it sounds cute.

My chapter occasionally called new members 'baby turtles', which isn't horrible but I've never been a huge fan of the 'baby x' terms.

greekdee 08-08-2011 06:12 PM

Family members need to watch their FB statuses too. Last year in my community, there was a girl who was going through recruitment and was extremely disappointed when a particular chapter cut her. Well, her younger sister got on FB and completely trashed the sorority. Did it get back to them? I don't know for sure, but I do know it got back to a neighbor who had been a member of the chapter and written a rec for the sister rushing. It also got to a girl who was a member of another sorority because she's the one who told the neighbor about it.

This year, the younger sister who did the trashing is going through recruitment at the same school! I wonder just how far news of that FB rant traveled, and if it is going to come back and bite her?

I knew a few guys that wanted to partake in recruitment because it looked fun. Then again they were engineers that hardly saw girls.

But here's a status I just saw
"I wanna be in a sorority!! They're so cute and girly.. ill start my own :-)"

Another one
"I think the purpose of sorority rush is to torture their boyfriends by not seeing them for weeks at a time... dislike"

bluerockstar91 12-17-2011 05:17 AM

Stolen from Facebook after using the search feature:

"Everyone please be aware of the delta sigma theta sorority serial rapist he is in dallas area and attacks alumi of the sorority please watch out for any woman you know that was once in the sorority."

This isn't recruitment related and is a rather serious status. I've had several friends post it as a PSA. There really IS a serial rapist in DFW who apparently is targeting his victims.

Sure is. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the poster you quoted though. They seem kind of special in the eternally aspiring to be a sorority member way.

Since it was posted and quoted, the bolded are my edits for the non-Deltas on facebook. Sorors in the area have received information and our NHQ has an official press release.

Back to my non-recruitment and non-facebook lane.

DGLillyLover 01-03-2012 05:40 PM

I love all the statuses (stati?) about choosing which house you want to rush. Do they think that they just don't go to the other houses or what?

IUHoosiergirl88 08-11-2012 10:53 AM

Some gems from Twitter that I found:

"Stuck in Starbucks behind a bunch of sorority sisters with an order for a million skinnies, non fats, and no whips. just need reg coffee NOW"

"Oh thats right, there is a Kappa Sigma & Sigma Kappa"

"I have a feeling VP-Nominee-Picking is a lot like Sorority Recruitment--complete with matching shirts, songs, and veiled language."

KSUViolet06 08-11-2012 04:24 PM

Other Twitter gems from several competitive recruitments:

"Just left XYZ. I vote NO. #sogross #ew #don'twant"

"OMG I so wish AB would just bid me now. I love them SOOOOO much."

I wonder if the first girl understands that she doesn't get a "vote." Bless her heart.

WhiteRose1912 08-11-2012 04:59 PM

I'm seeing more than one person on twitter refer to it as voting. Is this a thing now?

P1: I loveeee waiting in line for an hour. #stillnotthereyet (picture of women waiting in line to rank)

P2: @P1 is that for the bathroom? Hahaha

P1: @P2 hahah, no. It's to vote for a sorority..

DarlingTexan 08-11-2012 11:22 PM

As far as I'm aware, voting is definitely not a thing. PNMs are so silly.

I looked up a girl today whose profile picture is her in front of one of the houses here, with the caption 'can't wait to be a... :)'

Too bad your profile is your real name and your school and recruitment is going on at this moment. #notsmart

LOL I saw that too.

I also love how it's her "Official Twitter Page" and that she can be booked/contacted through her FB.

(Senusret I should be really happy that she shares her name with a character from Young & the Restless)

In my dream world, I'd be able to friend her and post "That's nice because you're certainly not going to be a (my sorority) now."

Or any other sorority...haha. Why these girls don't get that we do every kind of possible research before asking them to join our sisterhood is beyond me.

Larkspur12 08-12-2012 12:30 AM

I cannot believe some of these tweets/statuses! I figured it was common sense not to post about recruitment, but sadly, I guess I was mistaken...

DarlingTexan 08-12-2012 12:55 AM

Dakota Fanning and Miranda Cosgrove are going through recruitment at USC? How strange would it be to have them as your sisters, I still remember them as little babies!

victoriana 08-12-2012 01:25 AM

Here are a few HILARIOUS tweets I found:

"Omg recruitment week starts today I'm so excited. By the end of this I won't be lying when I say I'm the drunkest sorority girl at the party"

"All these buses on campus that say "Sorority Recruitment" should say "Fraternity Procurement." #pimpin'"

"Somebody please tell me where I can get a pair of fake Jacks. I'm not spending 150 bucks on sandals for sorority rush"

"Dudes say they're relieved they aren't a chick cause of pregnancy, I'm relieved I'm not a chick cause of Sorority Rush Week that would blow."

"Iowa City be warned- sorority rush starts in a week. The heel per-capita rate is about to skyrocket."

"can a thug rush for a sorority?"

"Just drove past sorority rush, won't be long till those girls get #railed"

"Telling me I cant go out during rush week is like telling me to stop throwing up my sorority sign when I'm blackout..Im gunna do it anyways."

To be fair, that one was from a ZTA at USC (S. Carolina). ;) LOL

It makes so much more sense now. I was thinking it was a PNM who thought she needed them to be accepted or something. I wouldn't want to spend $150 on a pair of shoes either!

simply_stacey 08-12-2012 01:11 PM

Just saw this one on Twitter and it cracked me up.
If I was the leader of a sorority, I'd finish the introductory rush speech to the girls with, "May the odds be ever in your favor."

University of Southern California? They must be registered under an assumed name. USC looks poised to have a big recruitment.
