Agree with you 110% KSUViolet!
|
My bfffff at USC used to live at the SDT house before she decided to go through recruitment (and move into her own chapter house), and she says the SDT girls are just as amazing as the other chapters, it's just no one ever gives them a chance. So, good for you, kaeb, for giving them a chance! As well as a second chance at AXO. I can't wait to see where you end up!

I am usually one of the first ones to call out a PNM on her BS of rejecting a chapter she feels is beneath her while crying about being bidless, but I do not feel that is the case here, since our OP is willing to go back to AXO during COB. She knows that AXO will be COBing, and she was upfront about her feelings with the member who preffed her, so theoretically, that member can squash any "she rejected us" concerns. Plus, her sincere interest should show when she goes to a COB event.
I agree with her decision to look at AXO and SDT during COB, since SDT did not participate in formal recruitment. If SDT was participating and cut her, and AXO was the only chapter she had left, in that case, accepting a bid to AXO probably would be the best course of action (and dropping before initiation if she still didn't feel it) because it'd either be AXO or not greek for a whole year anyway. |
I 100 % agree with what you are doing Kaeb. If you are unsure about AXO and want to give SDT a chance and see if they are a better fit then go for it! :D
|
kaeb - good luck to you. I hope everything works out for you one way or another.
Veteran GCers - the risk she is taking, by what it seems, taking for granted that ANNA would be there when she's ready, it is different from Suiciding because... she knows this house will go through informal? To me thats like saying, I'm gonna suicide on my preference card because I KNOW they'll make a bid list. = I'm not going to sign a bid intention to this sorority because they'll want me in a week anyway. I guess none of the above makes any sense. But I wish I was a lucky enough girl to have even one bid, not to mention have my choice at checking out other groups then going with the LR. It takes a confident girl to KNOW that ANNA will still want you during informal. But Good luck PNM! I'm not in a sisterhood, I just enjoy looking at the bid day pics! |
Kaeb, I wish I could come out there and hug you. Do what is in your heart. Without sounding like your mother, I would remind you that while sorority life is fulfilling, exciting, and tons of fun, you have come to college to get an education. It's a big school full of big opportunities and based on your writing (which is great) and your logical thinking, you have a big future indeed. Be true to yourself sweet girl.

Re: bolding. What the OP is doing is not related to single-listing a chapter on a preference card. Further, no, not the impression I get at all. On the contrary, the OP is expressing caution and desires more time with the members of ANNA as she wants to be certain she's doing the best for both them AND her. I don't sense any "expectation" on the OP's part. I do sense that she's in a delicate position and is aware of that, and that she's being open and is vulnerable because she knows that there are no guarantees in this process whatsoever. Your equaling of her not signing a bid meaning that she knows that they will want her anyway is, IMO, not a valid assumption. That's not a given at all in the process. It can actually be quite the opposite. And the OP has expressed that she is aware of this possibility. Re: your remarks making sense. I was quite confused by your interpretation and explanation. Perhaps it is because you are not in a GLO that the process is confusing to you? To the OP: put one foot in front of the other and see where your path leads you. I for one hope that you find what you are seeking, wherever that may be. |

I don't think she's taking anything for granted at all. More like she's going to try to get to know this sorority better outside of the emotional insanity of formal rush. She knows perfectly well they could tell her to go @#$% in her hat because she dropped out of formal rush. |
^^what 33girl said, short & sweet & concise & to the point. Back to the store to buy a red pen and work on my writing again...

haha actually my grandma, who I've been emailing throughout this whole process, just reminded me that I'm here to learn as well. Which I totally know! :)
Definitely was NOT expecting to show up to class and see 3/4 of the class (all girls) wearing their bid night shirts... including 1/4 or so in Captain Awesome shirts. I know AXO may not still give me a bid through informal recruitment, and they may hate me for turning them down, but I'm hoping my explanation to my rusher made it clear enough that I was not signing a card because I wasn't ready yet, not because of anything they did or did not do (I think those were actually my exact words...) I got an email today from SDT about their informal recruitment, and it looks like a lot of fun! Way more chill, for a start. :) Like ice cream sandwiches on the quad and a beach trip? I can definitely live with that! :) haha what can I say, I love being spoiled! But I think most people do. :) SDT really made a good impression on me at the pre-recruitment meeting, so I'm looking forward to meeting these women. I don't understand how what I did is like suiciding, when I didn't fill out a bid card at all? Ah well. |
It's not like suiciding. You did not sign a card.
Best of luck to you. |
Good luck, Kaeb. It sounds like SDT has some fun activities lined up. Enjoy!

So I talked to an SDT who is an RA on my floor (not my RA), and she seems super awesome and chill and cool. I'm really excited for informal recruitment! :)
|
kaeb- yeah! When does informal recruitment begin?
|
tomorrow at 5:30, though I'm in class until six and have a prior commitment at 6:15, but I'm going to head by the quad anyways after and hope they're still there. :) But I'll for sure be there Wednesday!
|
Glad to hear your enthusiasm for the informal process. If there is a lesson in recruitment it is that for all the ups and downs, there truly is a reason for things turning out the way they do. SDT may be full of girls who had a similar experience as you and all of you will bring a lot of life to the organization. You are going to be just fine.
|
i just want to check that you explained to someone in SDT your time conflict for tomorrows get together?
i'm a little late to this thread, but wanted to add my good wishes for a happy outcome, whether you join a sorority or find you place at usc elsewhere. |
I am so sorry that things didn't work out the way that you wanted them to do--so far. I have two observations: It is interesting that you are (still) considering AChiO, a Christian sorority (which I realize that you realize is not for you) and an historically Jewish sorority. Look inward and see what you really want.
The other thing that I have found along the way about many things: There is no perfection in life. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and jump into the mix. True, sometimes things don't work out. There are many other times when you jump in, are unsure...and wonderful things happen. One thing is for sure: if you don't jump, you'll never know how much you will miss. |

I think the Christian sorority she was discussing is Alpha Delta Chi. Not AXO. |
Oh, I knew that!! There were three houses under consideration and that, to me, considering the differences, is a conundrum. AChiO has been at SC for over a 100 years, and Alpha Delta Chi is coming in new. If I wrote something to the contrary...my bad.
|
haha yeah I decided not to consider adchi, and it turns out I will be able to make the event tonight, which I found out in response to my email telling them the conflicts and hoping I'd still be able to make it.
|
Awesome, kaeb! We can't wait to hear how it goes tonight :)

OK I LOVE THESE WOMEN SO MUCH.
I met a bunch of them, they were all so cool and eclectic and amazing! :D One of them actually walked me back to my dorm (which is like over half a mile away), which was so ridiculously sweet! :) They were all amazing and are really excited to see me tomorrow. I definitely felt the click, like I just fit in so well with these girls. I'm seriously excited for the rest of the recruitment events!!! We all had so much to talk about and it was never dull or awkward. (sorry, can't really contain my happiness right now. :)) |

no, it was completely out of her way, she was going back to the row after, which is a mile away from my dorm, but she works for Campus Cruiser and can get a ride any time she wants. She was the one to whom I talked the most. I just thought that was so nice and thoughtful of her! :)

super!!

Today was another great day! :) I stopped by the "five-minute philanthropy" at the beginning and ended up spending an hour and half there, just talking to all of the girls. They're all so great! Then tonight was my first visit to the house (which is seriously ridiculously beautiful on the outside and inside, it's crazy). I met/got to know better a lot of the sisters (it's a pretty small house, so I've met a lot of them already). That was a lot of fun, and they told us more about the house. Then after it was formally over, they were like, if you guys want to stick around and play Apples to Apples, we'll be doing that upstairs. I love that game so much, so of course I said yes! Another great day. :)

On a sidenote...Apples to Apples is the best game everrrrrr! |
yay for you!!
apples to apples is a great game! |
For clarification (because I don't remember if you specified or if I'm just dumb), but these are SDT events you're attanding right now?
|
I LOVE that at Jeff you thought those girls from your region randomly found you. Hon', they met you on purpose to make you feel comfortable! hope it helped!

I don't believe I had a rec to that house.
These are all SDT events, I haven't heard about any other house's events, but I'm quite happy with the Sig Delt women anyways. And I was just invited to watch the Hawaii game (whoo first game of the season) with them, even though that's not one of the planned events, so that's pretty cool! Unfortunately, I can't make it, I have literally three other commitments at that point in time, but I'd love to be there! |
Seems like you're doing Just Great! Keep smiling, keep studying (oh yeah - that?!), keep us posted. No matter what the outcome, you've grown a lot and you've met many wonderful women.

they do. It's crazy, I don't know how I'm supposed to be in so many places at once, but I'm going to try and stop by at least briefly, cause it's on the way from one of them to another.
And I love Apples to Apples so much! :) Studying... what's that? Haha. :) |
