I'm so excited for both of them, and can't wait to hear how their recruitment turns out! :)

Update
Here at the 12 groups that Emma will be visiting today and tomorrow for the Philanthropy round. Other than the Diamondbacks, these are in no particular order of preference.
Diamondbacks Blue Jays Angels Reds Cubs Giants Pirates Rays Astros Dodgers Orioles Cardinals She will have lunch break, so I may hear from her then. She had some interesting insight on the impact of having or not having a rec letter which I will probably share later on tonight. Carnation, with the next round of cuts, are the PNM's selections "true cuts", or like the first round, do you list all of the groups and then if you don't get your top 7, one or more of the others move up to replace those spots? |
If there are any girls reading this who are discouraged about not having a full slate like Emma and Cassie, do not despair - you can only receive 1 bid. You will be more rested and more able to focus on the parties you are invited to. Sometimes it is just a numbers game - and the girls that talked with you may have loved you, but you did not get to meet as many of the members as you needed (something completely out of your control). Do not give up. There will be a place for you where they will love and appreciate you and you will love them. Some of my daughter's favorite sisters are girls she did not meet until after bid day, as well. Hang in there!

I am to ditto what Lawgirl said.
I know a young woman who went through rush at a competitive SEC school. After the first round, she received only one invitation to the second round. To best honest, she had neither positive or negative feelings about the chapter that invited her back. She said she could withdraw from rush and take her chances with COB or go through rushing again in the second semester or the next year. She realized that the odds working in favor were slight if she decided to follow those paths. She decided that she learn more about ABC sorority and decide if she would want to join that sorority if offered a bid. She attended the second round party at ABC, showing interest and asking questions; she said that she tried not to sound too enthusiastic or too eager so she would been seen as desparate. She was invited back to the third round and preference night events. Needless to say she was offered a bid, which she accepted. My friend said she had to weigh there options as well as her feelings. For her, the ABC house was pretty nice place, she felt she could live with the members (realizing that she couldn't expect to like everyone and that every member couldn't expected to like her) and that if she wanted a part of Greek life, ABC was the best option. She added that her decisions might not be right for every young woman or man wanting to participate in Greek life |
For skit day (7 invites), all her invites would come from the 12 she attended for philanthropy - they will not go back to include the 5 she did not attend for philanthropy, so in that sense, there was a cut.

Day 3 Update
Emma sent a text message about today's parties.
The said that this round was more relaxed and more natural than the first round and the conversations were less awkward. However, she said that it was harder in some ways because now she sees some new things about some of the groups that cause her to like them more than she did yesterday. Hopefully will have more later tonight. |
i am so happy for emma and cassie and hope they had(are having) a great time today.
|
Let's see, they go until about 6:30 tonight and then finish those parties at 11:30 AM tomorrow. Then they wait until the next morning to get their results, I guess, and leave right for the parties from there like they did today.
|
Boo for no White Sox. Rooting for the Cardinals just in spite of the Cubs.

Finally heard from "Cassie" She went to 8 parties today, and will go to 4 tomorrow. She enjoyed today much more than the first round and felt like she got to know the groups much better.
Her top 3 so far are Cookies and Cream, Cake Batter, and Chocolate. Chocolate may be her top choice, and she felt that she made really strong connections there with several girls. The girls in chocolate stayed with her almost the whole party and brought others over to meet her. She also felt that it was positive that they talked about lots of outside interests, and not just sorority things. She was able to connect with a friend she made at Camp War Eagle, and it turns out that the friend likes Chocolate too and has a sister in that group. She still feels that there are 7 or 8 places she could be happy. She said that most of the girls from her high school had a full schedule too although quite a few were cut from one of the "top" sororities, which surprised her because they are very outgoing girls and have strong grades. Almost all of the girls in her Pi Chi group, however, did not have full schedules. Her Pi Chi cautioned her not to brag ,(which she of course knew not to do) and the Pi Chi did not reveal the fact that Cassie had 12 parties. The only negative is that she is losing her voice. She says the parties are very loud and you basically have to scream the whole time to be heard. Thanks for letting me ramble and share. My husband is tired of hearing about it after about 30 seconds. |
Loving the updates!
And good luck to all the ladies for the rest of recruitment! |

Ramble away. You are feeding the serious recruitment story addiction that is rampant on this board. :) |

Day 3 - Final Update
Just finished talking to "Emma".
One of the first things she said was "This is going to be so hard!" in reference to prioritizing her choices tomorrow after the second round. She feels like her brain is on "overload" with names and faces and information she has learned about the various groups over the last few days. Using the 1-10 rating system has helped, but she still has rated the groups fairly close together. She spent a lot of time going over the philanthropy of each group, and discussing which group's philanthropy she liked the most, and which ones she didn't feel as attracted to, so it is apparent that this will be important to her in making her choices. Her Pi Chi group seemed to fare pretty well as far as cuts go, but she did hear stories of heavy cuts in some of the other Pi Chi groups. She's been drinking a lot of water thoughout the week to combat the heat. When her Pi Chi group went to dinner and the waitress asked her for her drink order, all she could think of was "Anything but water!". Each girl in the Pi Chi group has their own schedule so each girl has to make sure to attend her parties in a punctual fashion. Emma heard a story about one PNM in another group who had a break and went back to her dorm to take a nap, and ended up missing one of her parties. Apparently, this results in an automatic cut. Today she liked the Blue Jays, Angels, Cubs, and Dodgers the most. She will visit the Diamondbacks and some of her more favorite groups tomorrow. She is very tired and will head to bed early tonight, which is very unusual for such a night owl. |

and wondering how their parties went that day. :D :) ;) |
One more thing...Emma said that the PNM's will only be allowed to attend 6 parties for Skit Day. Can anyone confirm? Also, at Auburn, which round is quota based on?

So excited for Emma and Cassie, and yes it is tough. I spoke to " Suzie's" mom today, she said she hasn't seen her go to bed this early except when she's been sick..... she must be pretty wiped out. Auburn Dad, Suzie also mentioned how tough today was, she liked so many of the houses and said it felt more relaxed than Ice water teas. While she has been taking notes , I suggested she bullet point specifics, with names vs writing narratives to herself. It really helps later when trying to make decisions. Suzie had 9 houses today with 3 tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing. Sounds like Cassie is also having a great time , glad she has her favs and the face she likes so many chapters. Ahhhhh recruitment!:D |

I will tell you it works well for all chapters. It's been a great addition to the recruitment process. |

So glad to hear that Emma, Cassie and Suzie are having a good time. And don't worry about rambling, we all love these recruitment stories.
Just a quick aside to Cassie's Mom, my daughter had a similar roommate experience her freshman year-2008. She thought she would just stick it out but problems continued to escalate from day one until about two months into the year, she returned to her room in the middle of the day and found her roommate and bf in her bed, if you can believe it. Needless to say we moved into another room right away. I would say to move sooner rather than later. We found the staff at Auburn hosing to be very caring and helpful. Happy recruitment to all and War Eagle! |

Just stumbled on this thread and am so glad I found it! I am obsessed with all things rush, so this parental realtime update is wonderful!
Wishing Cassie, Emma and Suzie good luck! Go Cards! |

An important thing to remember with invites is that no matter how many you get (or how few) you can only get one bid :) |

Thank you to those sharing their PNMs recruitment stories with us. Aurburn seems like a completely different world from my schools in the northeast, and it's fun to live vicariously for the week. Thank you for taking the time to share!!
Good luck to all the girls! |
Day 4 - Quick update
Just talked to Emma.
She has competed today's parties and has already gone to the computer lab to turn in her preferences. She still feels pretty good about each of the groups that she liked before. Her favorites so far are, not in any particular order: Reds Diamondbacks Pirates Blue Jays Rays Angels Dodgers She would also probably be fine with at least three of the other remaining groups from this round. She understands that some of the heaviest cuts will come after this round, but is hoping for the best. Until tomorrow morning, she will take advantage of the time off to do some important things like shop for textbooks, work on her room, etc. I hope to have more tonight. |
sending good vibes to her and all the other auburn pnms.

Since auburndad did baseball- I think I'll do football teams for Suzie, Her teams as of Philanthropy Day were; 49ers NO Saints Atlanta Falcons Arizona Cardinals Carolina Panthers Cleveland browns Seattle Seahawks Chicago Bears Denver Broncos San Diego Chargers Oakland Raiders St Louis Rams Her Favorites were; 49ers Cardinals Falcons Saints Panthers while she like many others , she felt these 5 matched her personality and goals the best. ** Please note-- colors, location etc of teams were randomly chosen*** Keeping everyone is my thoughts as tomorrow shall be here soon |
Hearing that GPAs are super competitive for some sororities this year--even with legacies. Have a cousin going through and it seems like a great group this year.

Woo! Seattle finally made a showing in Merry's list (but let's be honest, our sports are subpar).
I wish we could merge the lists for Emma, Cassie, and Suzie so we knew whether there was overlap or they all had completely different favorites. Oh well- we shall see when the results come out! |

I was at Auburn today to help with vote counting. It was a sunny hot day - whew! The girls (pnms) - if they wanted - were allowed to wait inside in between parties due to the heat. I had to walk over many of them just to get to the Gamma Phi area :p and they were all busy scribbling notes about the various sororities onto sheets of paper and in their recruitment handbooks etc. I understand that when recruitment officially started, there were just under 1200 girls going thru...there had been more than 1200 registered but some dropped right from the outset. My four local rec girls seem to be doing great so far!:D |
