I remember seeing MTV Cribs and seeing letters somewhere in his house (I believe it was he and not the other guy from American Pie, with the blonde hair). But, if he is Lambda Chi...I don't think he was "famous" at the time he became a member, which makes a difference.

you're correct...

Keisha Knight Pulliam is my soror. She was initiated into Spelman College as the Deuce of the 1999 line. I don't know any of my sorors from Spelman, but know some sorors who met her at the Philly Greek in the summer of 1999.

But, that's interesting, seeing how gun-ho he appears about Omega Psi Phi these days :p

Now that we have that out of the way, SHAQ tried to pledge at NU IOTA? I didn't know that. One of my professors told me that he got into a scuffle or something of that nature with some brus around that time. That doesn't suprise me...

Famous Pledges

The heir to the Dr. Pepper fortune rushed at UT-Austin a couple of years ago. I believe she ended up pledging Pi Phi. Her Mom was an ADPi at Texas, sister a Theta at SMU and other sister a Kappa at TCU. She had a lot of pressure and decided to go with a different sorority despite her legacies.

Matthew McConnaughey pledged Delt at UT in the early 90's (with my sister's boyfriend). And Renee Zellweger (sp?) wasn't in a sorority, but a ZBT (now Pi Lam) little sister. Janis Joplin was an ADPi at Texas before her career really took off. She was named by the Delts as the ugliest person on campus!!

And as far as politics go, LBJ's daughter and granddaughter pledged Kappa. But the most famous is Jenna Bush. She's currently a sophomore and a Theta at UT.

crandazzo3x 11-24-2001 11:42 PM

one last famous texas greek

the cutie from MTV's Real World is a Delt at UT. You'll notice that he always has on a Tri Delt shirt.

And there are several US Congressmen/women's sons/daughters who are active in the UT system, too.

Sideconvo: Who always has on the Tri Delt tshirt? Isn't Tri Delt a sorority...why would a dude on Real World have on a Tri Delt shirt? Did you mean to type "she" instead of "he?"

BrownEyedGirl 11-26-2001 01:57 PM

I think the Tri-Delt shirt he (Kevin, I think) always wears is a party shirt. Crandazzo didn't mistype, but meant to imply that he is in a GLO and wears sorority party shirts. I might be wrong, but I remember seeing a shirt with Pi Beta Phi and Tri-Delt letters on it...I guess it was just a sorority event he went to!

Lisa Fishman 11-26-2001 10:27 PM

I went to college with a very well known race car (NASCAR, I think) driver's daughter. The daughter went through rush and became a Delta Delta Delta. It was kind of funny, at Freshman Orentation the school had all the parents together. My dad happened to sit next to him (the driver). They intoduced themselves to each other. My dad stated to him, " I've seen you go around." The driver said, "Yep, around, around and around!!!"

Welcome to the OXhouse

Here are famous Theta Chi's. God I hate italics. Does this post look like it in italics to you guys?? Anyway, on with the names...

Jon Sturard from the Daily Show
Steven Speilburg, the Academy Award winning director
Lee Iacoca, Mr. Chrysler himself
DJ Scribble
Several big military people
Cindy Crawford is a OX little sister.

Um....
as far as Britney Spears goes, I would vote for her for sweetheart. Not over Mandy Moore though. Mandy Moore is banging. I can't wait till she turns 18.

sigkapdancer 11-27-2001 01:00 AM

Two years ago when I was a freshman, the big rumour was that Britney was coming to Arizona State. The local news even did a story about it! C'mon girls--if Britney rushed at your school, who WOULDN'T give her a bid? She's Britney Spears! Like you would turn her down!

Mandy Moore goes to Bishop Moore High School, the Catholic school that is just 3 blocks away from my parents house in Orlando. We hear a lot about her, little gossip, etc.

APPARENTLY...she didn't have a date to prom last year! GASP! The story is that all the little guys were too intimidated to ask her, because she's a big star and all, plus no one wants to be the subject an article in the next month's issue of seventeen or teen people.

But people say she's a really nice, down to earth girl despite all the fame and fortune.

So Billy...this year's prom is coming! You should come to Orlando and try to meet her! All the BMHS kids always go to this little ice cream/sandwich place after school - it's across the street. We'll track her down!

...not that I advocate stalking or anything...;)

Janis Joplin was not ADPi. She did go to UT, but was a Pi Phi. My mom was in the UT ADPi chapter around the same time, so I know this for sure. Also, Pi Phi claims Janis as a famous member.

Farrah Fawcett was a Tri-Delt at UT during this time as well, but I think she dropped out.

She goes to Catholic School? That means those cute little outfits :) Over the summer I had planned on doing something really stupid/bad to get me arrested, then when the TV intereviewed me I'd be like, "I want to ask out Mandy Moore." But that seemed kind of juevinille. Then I got a job. LOL I bet my brother five hundered dollars I'd marry her.

I have never seen anywhere that Janis Joplin was a Pi Phi. I have been known to be occassionaly wrong, but do not think I am on this one. I am not sure that she would have been interested in Greek Life at all, so I would be surprised if she was a member of any Greek Organization. Knowing the reputation or our UT chapter, I find it hard to believe that she was a member of our TX Alpha chapter.

Side note, love her music.

ADPI_ZL 11-28-2001 12:19 PM

I may have been wrong as well. I believe one of the PiPhi chapter sites listed her as a famous alum. But I'm with you, I can't really see her fitting into the greek scene at UT.

SSS1365 11-28-2001 01:44 PM

The closest person Tri Sigma has to being famous is the writer of "Where the Heart Is," a book that was made into a movie... and I'm sorry but I don't even know her name!

The closest person my chapter (Alpha) has to being famous is the ex-wife of the guy who owns the Outback Steakhouse chain. Apparently she's worth over $32 million, which is nice when we are trying to raise money from alumnae! Last fall she gave us $1,000 when we were asking for $5. We didn't even know we had any wealthy alumnae until then. :)

crazyleggedsigma 11-28-2001 02:25 PM

Her name is Billie Letts (spelling?)

She went to Southeast for a time, but oddly enough did not affiliate with Beta Xi. Can't remember where she was initiated.

Our chapter president was emailed a list of famous Sigmas that she read at meeting a month or so ago. If you want, email me and I can have her forward it to you. It was from EO-Mimi Hiner, I believe?

Actually LBJ's daughter was a Zeta... both my room-mates now are Zetas from UT so I know this to be true.

- Dorothy Nelson, a senior judge on the 9th circuit court of appeals was an Alpha Phi at UCLA.

- Marian Dale Roper Bronze metal winner in platform diving, 1932 U.S. Olympic Team was an Alpha Phi at UCLA.

- Maile from PopStars/Eden's Crush was an Alpha Phi at UCLA with me.

- Keri Strugg's sister, Lisa was an Alpha Phi at UCLA too, but Keri pledged Theta and then left UCLA.

- Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar) from "The Wonder Years" was an ADP at UCLA.

greek girlie 11-28-2001 05:31 PM

The daughter of a big oil man went through rush this year at my school. I probably shouldn't say who. One of my sisters knew her from high school and she was into hard core drugs and a big partier. It was a big decision for us because every chapter knew her parents would probably give money to the house. We ended up releasing her because the reputation risk was not worth it, but it was a big deal. She ended up going to a top house and they are having problems with her. She apparently thinks that she should get special privileges. Hopefully the drug problem is over. I would hate to see a bunch of girls in a chapter ruin it for everyone else by bringing drugs into the house.

I don't know if it's a big deal anywhere else but at my school it's always big when twins or sister go through rush at the same time. I guess it's kind of novel. Even though it's not about famous people I'll share this story because it's unbelievable. A set of twins went through 2 years ago. They pledged the same top house as above. After initiation they began to show their true colors: they were very wild. They were at a party and one of them was complaining about a ticket for MIP that she had gotten. She didn't want to get a job or tell her parents she was whining big time. A group of boys at the party took up a collection and said that if they would go in a back room and perform sexual acts together and let all the guys watch. And they did. Needless to say fraternity boys are not going to keep THAT a secret and eventually it got back to the other members and the girls were punished.

Consensus on campus is that this house is well on its way to losing "top house" status.

Optimist Prime 11-28-2001 06:38 PM

drugs in house

I just learned this the other day, and thought i should share it for those who might not know. If any member of your sorority or fraternity is caught with any amount of illegal drugs in the house, no matter how small, you will all be charged as a cartel, because technicly our orgs are businesses, and the offical house makes them the place of business.

I'm a UT-ADPi alum and Janis Joplin was not a member of my chapter. Rumor had it she was pressured to pledge a sorority (I don't know if she ever did) but she was never initiated as an ADPi.

And Lucy Johnson (LBJ's daughter) was a Zeta at UT. My mom was a freshman when she was a senior.

kimmykimmy 11-29-2001 05:29 PM

Lynda Johnson is LBJ's daughter. She is now married to Chuck Robb (past senator of Virginia).

allgreek2me 11-29-2001 05:42 PM

LBJ's Daughters

Yes, Lynda (aka Lynda Bird) is married to Chuck Robb of VA. Luci, the younger of the two Johnson girls, lives in Austin. She was married to my dad's best friend. They had 4 kids. I know one of them (Nicole). She was a Kappa and is the advisor for the chapter at UT-Austin.

I know they did a Cribs with Sean William Scott AKA Stiffler, but didn't know they did one with Chris Klein. I know he was cast for 'Election' in high school, and he joined Lambda Chi, I assume after 'Election' was done, but still possibly before he had gained any notoriety...

Alpha Phi Omega

Well, since I pledged Alpha Phi Omega only in 1999, I don't know if I pledged anyone famous. . .yet.

However, yes, Bill Clinton did pledge my chapter (Mu Alpha) and I hear that as Governor of Arkansas, he was extremely supportive of the fraternity as a whole.

Georgetown being what it is, we also have pledged people who became lawyers, doctors, and diplomats. Back in the day, we also pledged people who came from old European money. . .

Oh really? Is this from state to state? Before Thanksgiving, a few guys in fraternities got arrested for possession (and we're not talking small amounts here). Their houses were not charged...they were treated as what they are---individuals.

I hope its state from state, cuz i think its an unfair law. That sucks that they got charged but good for the chapter as a whole. Anyway, you jshould still remember how that reflects on your chapter, and if your nationals are strict or if your chapter is any other trouble, that could be the last straw. Hope nothing too serious happens.

KappaStargirl 01-09-2002 11:11 PM

I was a member of what is probably one of KKG's smallest chapters, at a tiny private school in very cold Wisconsin, so I think the chances of someone famous going through that chapter are slim at best. Indeed, I think the university itself has about two graduates that anyone else has heard of. However, Kappa as an organization boasts

-Ashley Judd

-Deborah Norville (but for some reason I always get her mixed up with Joan Lunden, who is a DG)

-Kate Spade

-Candice Bergen

-Barbara Feldon (played one of TV's first feminist characters, Agent 99 on "Get Smart")

some authors (including a co-author of that very cool book "Girlfriends," I can't remember her name), some beauty-pageant winners, and me (haha).

My fiance, who is a Sig Ep, never lets me forget about Dr. Seuss and Carroll O'Conner.

TriDeltaGal 01-09-2002 11:31 PM

Actually, Deborah Norville was a TriDelt at Goergia not a Kappa. You can check out our website www.tridelta.org for more distinguished deltas.

The father of one of my bro's here is a Sigma Chi from Ball State, as is one of my friends from High School. She was? Oops! Darn it, I always get all those newscasters mixed up. Maybe it was Jane Pauley...maybe? Anyway, thanks for straightening that out. My bad.

One more famous KKG I forgot: Kate Jackson, who played Sabrina on "Charlie's Angels." I had actually heard of her before pledging b/c my mom was a huge fan of one of her other series, "Scarecrow and Mrs. King."
