lollerskates. Reading this post reminds me of a link Vandal gave us in chat one day.

Revealing too much personal info is not a good idea, lol. :D

I'm sorry. I just wanted to add that because I didn't want to offend anyone from the South. That is why I said that.

Well, that tidbit about North vs. South wasn't necessary to your point. :)

Mentioning that you're interested in adopting a child of a different race than you was unnecessary and leaves yourself open to conversations that it sounds like you're not necessarily educated on or ready to have. I don't know. But when you put it out there it becomes something to comment on.

Also, apologizing here is again, probably not the best of options. Particularly because you didn't actually do anything 'wrong' you just seem kind of oblivious about how some people will take your words and can't handle it when they take them in a different way from which you meant them.

Pineapple. ;)

I've seen >.> or <.< used. It's more nuanced though.

I knew she was on a downward spiral as soon as she mentioned The Blind Side.

Why is it bad I mentioned that movie? You said you didn't even see it. I liked it and I thought it had a great message. Here is this kid who came from nothing and instead of just living the dream based on his athletic abilities, he also finished college. There are so many athletes that choose not to finish college. I think that is sad.

Sure, you don't need a college degree but, it helps in this economy.

Because the movie is full of other issues and wasn't really related to the thread at hand.

Yeah, thanks. I stand behind the fact that I think having a college degree in this economy (regardless of whether or not you are a major Hollywood star or an athlete) is a very good idea.

You reduce everything to "offensive," "wrong," and "bad." It was just FUNNY and PREDICTABLE.

LOL. Because I knew you would end up talking about adopting a baby from another race. That's what that movie is based in. It wouldn't be remotely newsworthy or movieworthy if it wasn't interracial.

For instance, and this has nothing to do with interracial adoption, I loved "Lean On Me" and "Stand and Deliver" but movies like "Dangerous Minds" (I forgot the newer movies) are what Hollywood wants to show. LOL

agzg 05-26-2010 02:29 PM

Stand and Deliver was awesome.

I have a very good bet and suspicion that's not why she didn't like the movie.

But there are better examples that could be used.

The Pursuit of Happyness for instance.

And having a college degree in any economy is a good thing.

DrPhil 05-26-2010 02:42 PM

Oh no, DaemonSeid, "The Blind Side" is an excellent example of everything. It will be cited for years to come for everything.

Kids need supportive families.
Kids need mentors.
Education matters.
Go to college.
Take college seriously.
It's called a STUDENT athlete for a reason.
They can take your football but they can't take your education.
Black folks need white saviors...whoops...ignore that one.

LOL...it wasn't even a very good movie. I watched it on an airplane and was glad I hadn't forked out the $7.50 for a theater viewing. I was glad, as a Ravens fan, to say I'd finally watched it.;)

LOL. It has to be good. It's a tear jerker story. Perhaps you need to see it outside of an airplane context.

I may Redbox the movie one day or HBO OnDemand it. It may end up like "Twilight," which I have tried to watch OnDemand 6 times and I always get disinterested after the first 30 minutes.

Twilight seriously sucks! I liked the books (only because I could read the whole series in a week.) The chick that plays Bella makes me want to slap her. The Blindside really is kinda pointless, though. It's syrupy sweet and predictable. I'm glad life worked out so well for him, but I have a feeling the whole story isn't being told. Plus...if I had to hear Sandra Bullock say, "He scores 95% in protective instincts." 1 more time, I was going to puke. Really, what test scores that type of information?

Twilight *shudder* you mean that series where it's ok to be a creepy stalker if you really love someone? And where it's ok to be obsessive and controlling because you LOVE someone? And, "your blood is like heroin"

It makes my ovaries hurt.

The last one was the creepiest! Imprinting on a baby and having the child grown up quickly to marry Jacob. It was just a little too fundamentalist mormon to me!

Don't forget your first time having sex should lead to you being unconscious and covered in bruises.

My daughter, who was one of Twilight's biggest fans (and early too, before it was really hyped, she was getting all of her friends to read it) was thoroughly disgusted by the fourth book and now refuses to have anything to do with any of it. Why? Because of the incongruence of vampires having no fluids yet Edward was able to impregnate Bella. She couldn't reconcile that..lol. I said "So you're turned off from books about vampires and werewolves because of it includes an event that is impossible?" She was able to understand the irony of that, but stuck by it anyway!

Considering biting = sex via the book metaphor... Yeah you know, those books just piss me off.
