This is such a lackluster conclusion to this thread.

I'm sorry my boredom doesn't entertain. I assumed the thread died last page, so I was having fun.

I loved wearing some of my moms shirts bc they had cute 80s sayings on them and were held at places that no longer exist so the vintage flair was cool.

The black sororities have the cutest colors and shirts. I seriously think you should get some of their stuff and wear it around, because no one will think you're a member and it'll totally be OK, like you said.

Totally! ROTFL

delovely 05-29-2010 04:15 PM

So someone asked this, but apparently was a troll. But it's related, and fits in, so I figured I'll ask anyway.

I have two older sisters who are members of an NPC organization. Every year, their chapter has a family weekend and orders shirts for the families that attend. The shirts are usually very cute, and I have quite a few of them that I've accumulated over their years of membership. The shirts do, however, always have their letters instead of just spelling them out or whatever. I'm not affiliated with a GLO at the current time (though I will be going through recruitment at a school that does not have a chapter of this organization in the fall), but I've become increasingly wary of wearing the shirts in the past few years. In general, I basically only wear them to sleep or around my house. I've been wondering what the policy on this is, because I feel kind of uncomfortable wearing letters that aren't (and never can be) mine in any sort of situation other than this. Input? Is this perping?

KSUViolet06 05-29-2010 04:31 PM

The more you post, the more I am certain that you are not Southern and a troll. lol.

KSUViolet06 05-29-2010 04:37 PM

Now I am 1000x sure. No southerner needs to discuss how Southern they are in every post. lol.

I understand that as a little kid, you may not have known any better, but now you do.

But she didn't say she was wearing her sibling's shirts. She said:

So these would seem to be more like mixer shirts -- I'd guess they say something like "XYZ Family Weekend 2010." If it's okay with the chapter, I don't see why it's a problem. If the sorority in question has a problem with having letters on something that will be worn by non-members, then it's the chapter's fault for giving their guests tee shirts they shouldn't be wearing.

VB29 (or should it be miss_etiquette?), shut up and go back under your bridge, which I doubt very much is in the South.

KSUViolet06 05-29-2010 04:43 PM

Ack. I would edit, but you quoted me. lol.

Our Family Day didn't have shirts (for this reason) so it was kind of a moot point for us.

There are Southern, private school, etc. types who post here, but they don't post about it all the time, because it's not something they need to brag about. It's just life for them.

You post about old money, family, etc. in like every other post, and that tells me everything I need to know about you.

You're trying too hard. You're a troll and you're about as Southern as I am. lol.

Nope. First you spelled 'trailer' wrong. While you're learning other languages, please learn English.

Second. May I ask what being Southern has to do with anything? Do you think you are living in "Gone With the Wind"? Drinking hot tea makes you about as Northern as eating a Taco will make you Spanish. I'm Southern (NC).. and I surely am not hospitable enough to be happy that someone who is not in my sorority is wearing my letters. There's no way your sisters would be proud that someone is out there representing you and your sisterhood that hasn't worked for it. Stop being ignorant.

I guess you stroke out over the socials and guys wearing the shirts that say Delta Gamma Date Night? This is what I am confused about, a perp is someone who isn't part of that organization but wears shirts from them? I have never had a problem wearing anything of my friends or family members, and usually if it is someone I know and they are like you aren't a AB are you? Your South is not the South in which I was born, bless your heart. You said you were Italian. What happened to that? There were no Gherardinis in the US in the 1700s, and not in the Daughters of the Confederacy either, unless of course you post your family tree and your membership card and prove the veracity of your claim.

Well then, I have you beat by a century or so. See, in my family we don't just have the UDC and the DAR; we have the FFV and the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century.

I don't know. I know there are some sites that ban IP addresses to make it harder for banned posters to come back with new usernames.

Well I wasn't familiar with Greek life until I transferred to my university as a junior. So tell me, how does one become familiar with Greek life before college, especially if they had little interest in joining a sorority/fraternity?

You seem a little nutty if you ask me.

It's easy to not see letters when I walk around, because my university is an hour away from my small town. Sorry lady, there are no sororities at my community college.

For the record, I wasn't interested in it in high school because my mom wasn't a crazy sorority alum that took me to the formals.

One last question before you lose your mind completely, where did dolls in a china cabinet come from? You should google counseling services because you my friend, have lost touch with the real world.
