The silly shirts are almost definitely not the actual bid day shirts for the new girls. I think a couple of chapters have decided to have informal theme parties instead of more traditional SEC bid day kind of things.

It's the second year in a row that Kappa did something kind of different, I think. I'm only going by photos; I wasn't there. But remember the sports jerseys from last years photos? Weren't those Kappa as well?

Whatever makes them happy. Having a sense of humor and enjoying some levity seem great to me, but I prefer the more elegant themes myself.

I actually liked the tank tops. The bikini-screenprint-on-tshirt things, not so much. If they were going for crazy though, they certainly succeeded.

Fun crazy, though, not crazy crazy.

Are results at Georgia just getting to be so good and predictable that no one cares about posting anymore? In previous years, I think alumnae were eager to find out results and post, but now, is the thrill gone?

I will note that as near as I can tell, a much greater percentage of the girls I know going through stuck it out this year and are happy with their bids. Some years, as many as 50% of the ones I was following dropped out.

Video from 2009 Bid Day at UGA courtesy of youtube and the Red and Black.

That video is priceless for the part when the girl being interviewed explains Bid Night as being "kind of the Milledge Freaknik".

FloridaTish 08-18-2009 07:45 PM

Having lived in Atlanta throughout the "Freaknik" era of the 90's, I couldn't help but chuckle when she said that.

KSUViolet likes this.

So funny.

carnation 08-18-2009 08:08 PM

Hey, if anybody has seen any bid lists, can you pm me? One of my husband's former students rushed (she moved out of town a few years ago) and we're trying to find out where she pledged.

Do many people wear whites to bid day? or is it a UGA thing? i'm kinda sad there wasn't ridiculous running to the houses. taht smy favorite part.

I think a lot of groups do it, not just UGA chapters. If you have a formal ceremony on that day, it might be the traditional ritual dress.

tradition for New Members to wear white dresses at UGA. And there's no way to run to the houses the way the campus is set up. I personally would consider that hazing. ;)

Everyone on our campus does it, too! I think it looks very pretty... though trying to dig up a white dress in January can be a challenge.

Hazing-- you mean the distance from the student center or the fact they would have to run by all the fraternity houses? :D

I was mainly thinking distance, steep inclines, and traffic, but yes, there is certainly a bevy of frat guys one would have to pass, too!

Oh, come on, it's not that far...we trekked that hill drunk on football Saturdays all the time. :D

ADqtPiMel 08-19-2009 01:39 PM

Just heard that the girl I helped arrange recs for got a bid to Sigma Kappa at UGA. :)

UGATammy 08-19-2009 04:45 PM

are there any results yet from uga recruitment? congrats to everyone!!!

carnation 08-19-2009 06:01 PM

YES!!! Finally a legacy whom we know gets a bid at UGa! A local girl pledged her mom's sorority--PI BETA PHI!

YES!!!!!!

Momatridelta 08-19-2009 06:05 PM

The Tri Deltas took 59 pledges and my darling daughter was one. It was a hot, trying week for her. I am amazed at how different recruitment is now. The house construction will be finished probably in December and we are all thrilled.

Low C Sharp 08-19-2009 06:31 PM

What are they doing to the house?
________
MARIJUANA SEED

Momatridelta 08-19-2009 06:36 PM

Building two new wings, redoing the front foyer and living room - which was completed by Round One. All the girls rooms have been repainted and refurbished. The two new wings should be completed by December. The site looks a bit ragged, but it didn't seem to affect the recruitment outcome. It's going to look great.

MemphisDGDawg 08-19-2009 06:44 PM

I watched the Bid Day video--it seems UGA shuttled the new pledges using campus transit to the houses on Milledge. That is a GREAT idea---traffic was always a nightmare on Bid Day. Now instead of hundreds of cars picking up girls from the dorms, all they had to deal with were the guys cruising in their trucks with baby pools in the back :)

DSTRen13 08-19-2009 06:49 PM

Just found out my boss' daughter got her first choice - SDT :)

I love to hear news like this!

MemphisDGDawg 08-20-2009 08:38 AM

Another happy ending....a girl from my hometown. She had a pretty rough time going into Round 3--she was dropped from quite a few of her favorite houses. Then she was released before Prefs :( However, Monday morning she was offered 3 snap bids and is now a happy new member of Kappa Alpha Theta!

NUBlue&Blue 08-20-2009 08:54 AM

I'm happy to say that for the first time in a long time I've not heard one story of disappointment from the hometown girls. We've had a few rough years lately, especially 2006 when only 4 of 12 received a bid.

I hope you get your legacy soon, Carnation!

Yay for a new Theta member :)

IHeartUGA 08-21-2009 02:02 AM

Does anyone have the numbers for all of the chapters?

UGAalum94 08-21-2009 11:37 AM

Three chapters snap bidding seems kind of high to me, but maybe I just don't know how common snap bidding is.

Did something go wrong with releases figure calculations this year?

That the usually suspects haven't posted results here kind of seems odd as well.

crescentgirl 08-21-2009 03:53 PM

Quota at Georgia was 47 and Gamma Phi Beta took 56!

OleMissGlitter 08-21-2009 04:07 PM

A local girl went Alpha Chi Omega at UGA! YEAH!

What gives?

lifeguardM 08-21-2009 05:47 PM

The quota that was given to me - 54 for undergrads and 6 upperclassmen - was from the Greek Life Office at UGA.

shadden 08-21-2009 09:53 PM

54 and 6 is correct - most houses were sitting on 60 - 61. I think Sigma Kappa took 61.

Congratulations to both you and your daughter! I love being a Tri Delta and I hope your daughter has a wonderful time as well.

Please pass along best wishes to her! :)
