And I want you to come at me with something better than GC Kitchen. Its up there with "I know you are but what am I."

What the hell is this? We have always been civil and friendly, I thought. I didn't even know you liked recruitment threads. Guess I do now.

I have always liked you. I am actually a bit puzzled by your post. It's kinda coming out of left field for me and for the first time in history, I think I am speechless.

tld221 07-01-2009 10:19 PM

I thought we were just going off in this thread cause we could. :shrugs shoulders:

ETA: actually tippiechick, I'm pretty indifferent to retro threads-dont love or hate them. And you're actually not so bad yourself. I just didn't think retro threads were that big a deal to warrant a thread of such snark.

The fake/mock stories are funny but some take it too far until they're not funny. Those posters are just reaching. (So maybe were kinda saying the same thing? Dunno. GC just aint that deep to me.)

DrPhil 07-01-2009 10:20 PM

LMAO. It's so random as hell that it's funny as hell.

tld221:  FAIL.

BadCat25 07-01-2009 10:23 PM

I agree that most of the retro stories are total crap except mine, which is an enduring piece of autobiographical literature second only to The Education of Henry Adams.

Yes, but the NPC women CAN, and one of the biggest problems with the NaNoWriMo crowd is that they use the oldest and most untrue stereotypes. Even if they have a positive ending (OMG, I joined what I thought was the loser chapter and I'm sooooo happy) they don't present an accurate picture of Greek life. Silly heifer who had alcohol at rush parties amd multiple locals at a supercompetitive school rushing with the NPC groups being the first one I can think of.

Put it this way. Imagine if someone wrote a "my journey through NPHC researching" thread and the phrase "paper bag test" came up.

EXACTLY.

I mean, this is GREEKCHAT. PNMs come here and ask for legit advice about recruitment.

I would hate for them to read some totally FAKE story and think that this is how Greek Life really is.

The thing that REALLY annoys me is the fact that PEOPLE STILL WANTED TO HEAR IT AFTER WE FOUND OUT IT WAS FAKE.

SERIOUSLY?

Are you THAT desperate to hear a rush story?

DrPhil 07-01-2009 10:39 PM

If people started doing NPHC research threads, those threads would likely get closed immejjjjjjiately. LOL.

We don't need to hear about your journey to and through the NPHC. Retro or current.

Now watch some fools try to start that thread trend.

Yeah, that was amazing. Even more amazing was the grief that those who called out the fakers received. Come on people- there is real life to be led. A fake recruitment story should never be the highlight of your day.

But some of them, and I'm thinking of the original pink sequined stockings thread, really were that entertaining purely as fiction.

Maybe moderators could invent a
"this story is completely unverified and likely contains falsehoods" label they could put on threads suspected of being fiction.

ETA: have you read the Sweet Valley High Twins: Rush thread? I really don't know the name of it, but it was awesomely entertaining, to me at least, but I've read Pledged too, come to think of it. Maybe I do enjoy reading fake rush stuff more than the average person.

Kevin 07-01-2009 10:46 PM

7 pages into this...

Boy do y'all take your rush threads seriously. If some PNM really forms her world view based on reading fake rush stories on GC, she's going to have more problems than the ones we've helped create.

Oh noes. Teh falsehoods.

/back to my popcorn.

Kevin, don't get all uppity. This is no different than you shutting down rumor threads in the RM forum.

UGAalum94: the problem is, people get called out for being fake. They deny deny deny. The GCers in the kitchen with Dinah get pissed because they need their rush story fix and say DON'T SCARE HER OFF!! WE BELIEVE YOU, PNMSLUTT205! PLEEEEAASE COME BACK!

Like I said, if you're that desperate, go to the oldest pages of the recruitment stories forum.

Is there really a reason to get so butthurt about a poster's opinion (which several are in agreement with)?

Wow. The responses to this should be funny.

ETA: PNMSLUTT205 LOL!

DrPhil 07-01-2009 11:04 PM

I think it is the kitchen statement that got them up in arms. She was not only saying those threads suck but she seemed to be labeling some of the GCers who tend to like them. LOL.

No. It's not that serious.

Just like someone who attempted to rip me a new one because a poster asked "Who wants to hear my story?" and I said "No."

So she deleted her posts.

And everybody was all "OMG how could you DOO THAT!! You scared her AWAY!"

I'm sorry. She asked. I was just being honest, lol.

But sometimes what you want to hear is how the heck the poster is going to pull that junk together. I don't think the Kitchen GCers want the recruitment fix as much as they want to see if the literary feat gets pulled off or not.

It's the more outlandish ones that I hate to see end in the middle because it would be some amazing if it could be concluded.

For example: after having martinis at XYZ, and being verbally assaulted in the bathroom at TUV, we had to fill out our pref list. I really didn't know if my multiple personality disorder best friend from high school was going to get a bid, and I was tempted to put QRS number one just so we could be sisters. But when I went to my rush group I realized that MPDBF got invites back to ABC, the best sorority on campus.

Typical GC user: I think you're lying.

(Of course she's lying. That's not the point.)

Rush thread poster: well if that's how you feel, I'm not telling the rest.

Could she have generated a conclusion that united all the elements of the plot? Now we'll never know. We've read that crap for nothing.

And I agree with you completely. But that's not how Tippiechick rolls. You can enjoy it, or you can fight it, or you can quietly register a protest in the thread. (I've done all three at various points.)

But she's going to keep on keeping on because apparently it is the Tippiechick and GreekChat way.

I completely agree.

I don't want to read a fake story with ponies and rainbows that leads to a bid with the "best chapter" on campus. Why even waste time making something like that up? But sometimes, even when everyone knows a story is fake, but it's filled with such nonsense and all kinds of crazy, to the point where it's actually entertaining and you don't really care that it's fiction because the person really is that insane, you kind of want to see where they go with it and how outlandish it can really get.

I liken it to watching the Real World. It claims it's real, you know that half of it isn't, but sometimes, you can't help but watch the ridiculous people on it fail at life.

Seriously, what is the point in creating a whole new section just so people could create fictitious recruitment threads? You wanna read those type of ficitious stories, it's a called a book.....read one. If you want to write one....take it OFF GC and into a blog or to your own personal wordprocessor.

Some difference actually.

Allowing a rumor which turns out to be false about a house could lead to an investigation. It could also mean civil liability for John.

A rush thread with fake houses based upon the Care Bears or My Little Pony or whatever isn't going to hurt anyone.

You know she does. She wants to come back and tell us how mean we are, and try her best to use some kind of witty insult...but all she ends up proving is how utterly psychotic she truly is.

33girl 07-02-2009 12:25 AM

Here's an easy peasy solution.

Everyone who wants to write a fake rush story, go to Happy Pony Rainbow Land. I hear they're hurting for members.

And yes, DrPhil, she does.

And I now heart this thread.

For the record, I've always hated rush threads. No. That is a lie. I've hated rush threads where every other post is, "wow I hope its green m&m's!!" followed by "no choose snickers!" For cryin out loud people, I wanted to read the poster's story, not how much you're dying for chocolate! And the retro threads have gotten waaaay out of hand.

But now this thread- its got it all. Complete with people who have returned from the great banned beyond.

Glad I couldn't sleep tonight! I might have missed all the good ol' fashion fun.
