Why yes, I am going to continue the thread hijack.

On the bright side, I suppose there are worse false assumptions that one can make...Such as asking a woman, "When are you due?" when she's not pregnant, or addressing a person by Mr./Ms./Sir/Ma'am when they are a member of the OPPOSITE sex! (And no, I've never done either of those things, lol)

That pretty much sums it up, lol.

And it was more of a probablity thing too. My understanding...in my grandparents days it was rare for a black family to have a family pet, unless they were on a farm.

RU OX Alum 06-23-2009 08:24 AM

I have pet fish. (I was confused about that one)

That's also a total urban vs. rural thing. My father's family always had several animals--dogs, horses, etc. My mother hates animals, but that's pretty much the only reason I didn't grow up with a menagerie. We had a horse growing up, but she was clearly boarded elsewhere.

Okay, so white people do have pet fish then I guess.

Sorry about your fish.

AlwaysSAI 06-23-2009 04:48 PM

Yeah, I do actually.

I think a better stereotype is:

White people have lots and lots and lots of fish in one tank. Like, thousands of dollars worth of fish and equipment.

Ok to get back on topic, a friend of mine once asked me "Don't all the old women at your church wear those big, crazy hats?"

I mean, ok, so my grandma DOES fit the stereotype to a tee but still.........

☮♥ΠΒΦ 06-23-2009 07:16 PM

That I can't dance
Regional: I am from Utah, doesn't mean I am mormon or conservative
Starbucks one is true and so is the fact that I love anything with Apple electronics

Really, I'm trying not to laugh -- but at least I'm laughing with you, I hope. :D

agzg 06-23-2009 07:26 PM

Maybe I'm not up on my stereotypes but more than half of these I can't place with a certain race.

I also had a hard time thinking up one of my own.

Oh well.

That's because, as Dr. Phil suggested, lots of what has been mentioned here aren't really racial stereotypes.

I like this trajectory better than the alternative. But that's just me. The pointy shoes thing cracked me up. What race wears only pointy shoes? Witches...elves...and apparently Puerto Ricans. lol.

LttleMsPrEp 06-23-2009 10:03 PM

-That I KNOW how to dance. That is false lol I've cheered for 12 years and danced for 1 the only dancing I know how to do is dancing that has already been choreographed for me.
-That I must love Ramen Noodles, Kool-Aid and corn bead
-My hair is long so it must be fake
-That I only have an interest in politics because of President Obama (false, I've been following politics since I was in the 6th grade).

Probably. Or in the head of whoever I asked me about fish. I was at pet store buying something for my mom's new kitten. But then other honkeys confirmed it.

I'm laughing at "honkeys" being underlined by spellcheck.

I'm allergic to fish as well.

Quote:

There are two rules for making the plural of words
that end in ‘- y’.

1. If the word ends with a vowel before the ‘- y’,
you add an ‘- s’ to make the plural.

For example:

day = days (vowel ‘a’ before ‘y’)

There are 5 vowels in the alphabet: a, e, i, o, u
There are 21 consonants: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z

2. If a word ends with a consonant before the ‘- y’,
the ‘y’ changes to ‘ie’ before adding an ‘s’ to make the plural.

For example:

penny = pennies (consonant ‘n’ before ‘y’)
Moral of story: HONKY = HONKIES

Now this thread is educational.:D

I thought about this today..

Anyone ever heard the stereotype that black people can't swim? ("because" there were piranhas in the waters around Africa, which is also why we didn't flee from slavery. hm.)

Anyway.. since, according to some of my friends, that's a stereotype, well.. I sure fit it. I swim as well as a the Titanic.

christiangirl 06-26-2009 01:08 AM

^^^Yeah, I've heard that. Everyone in my family can swim, so we don't count I guess. :p

Okay, now I'm stereotyping, but I just know I'm right. My friend just called and said that the news just reported people selling MJ commemorative t-shirts outside the UCLA hospital. Something down in my SOUL tells me they're black. We are stereotyped as late for everything, can't turn in things on time, but whenever there's ANY sort of event (good or bad), t-shirts get printed up at the speed of light. The man ain't been dead but HOW MANY HOURS and you're already making $20 a pop? If it turns out they aren't black, I'll eat my words, but I can just FEEL it.

BabyPiNK_FL 06-26-2009 01:25 AM

Black people and their t-shirts. If I ever die and someone puts my picture on a t-shirt, I will "haunt they asses"!

So I'm working at the mall at a jewelry kiosk. This man is gonna walk up with a shirt on that says "Free My Nigga Johnny"! I'm thinking to myself HELL NO! I hope he stays in jail for whatever it is he did! You should go too for that damn t-shirt!

lmao that is so true! And I heard someone say this on TV: "Michael Jackson was like the Barack Obama of music."

What?!

Piranhas are fresh water South American fish, so that's out. There are sharks in the salt water, as well as crocodiles in the river. Hippos are also mean and dangerous. If those critters were in my vicinity I probably wouldn't know how to swim either.

Lord. That is so disrespectful.

And to christiangirl: there are bootleg concert/event shirts, and then there are "RIP my n**** Pookie from 145th and Amsterdam" shirts. I hate the hood tshirts!

My mother has this oversized shirt of some dude named D-shawn that she wears to bed. Who is that ma? You don't know him!

DSTRen13 06-29-2009 02:22 PM

White people, though, make tee shirts for every single event - major or minor - that may even potentially occur. And we will buy and wear them whether we attended the thing or not (or even know what it was).

You mean the ones with the "Fruit of the loom" tags still attached....125th and Lennox has them too.

pshsx1 06-29-2009 04:06 PM

My old roommate always wore his FREE LOS and FREE someone else shirts and they were always in his Facebook statuses..

Well maybe if the dumbasses weren't stealing stuff and dealing drugs, they wouldn't be in jail now, would they?

I will be pissed if I'm ever on a RIP shirt.

I hate that people think all Hispanics are fluent spanish speakers. Or that we all enjoy latin food.

And when I order my food in English at the drive-thru, I expect you to answer back in the same fucking language.

But yes, you do appreciate it as you get older. I've been carded three times in the last two years, and I am very, very grateful! Last week, I went to my ob-gyn, and the receptionist was shocked at my age. Look at it as good genes - my mother didn't age a bit until my daddy died.

Another somewhat racial stereotype is having red hair. I am lucky, but rubbing my hair is not going to help you! I don't have a bad temper, but if accused of it too much, I could be tempted to make an exception. Just because my eyes are hazel, not blue, does NOT mean I bleach my hair!

I could go on forever about redheaded rumors, but you all get the idea.

This makes me laugh because I can somewhat relate. I am 50% Irish and 50% Scottish and I get asked all the time, "Why don't you have red hair?" Some people also ask me why I don't have green eyes. Really, people, do you think everyone in Ireland and Scotland have red hair and/or green eyes?! You've seen Far and Away with Nicole Kidman (who is AUSTRALIAN, btw), way too many times!
