I love Uber Twitter! It's great!

I finally joined Twitter after I saw that Delta Gamma had an account. I'm mindyangl on there. :)
|
I personally joined back in April, but I was using Twitter (looong before it was popular) at my internship in September. I just recently got back into it.

After seeing this thread up on the active topics lists so many times over the past few weeks, I've decided to go ahead and setup a twitter account for GC: http://twitter.com/GreekChat
I never expected to be joining twitter, simply because I'm always so busy with so many other things, but it does seem as though it might be a good, quick & easy way to post brief GC updates for anyone who is interested in receiving them. Besides, you were all quite convincing in this thread about how useful twitter can be :) It's not likely that I'll be posting very often to GC's twitter account, so no worries about being flooded with GC twitter updates. The most important use I can think of at this point is for it to be used as an alternative contact method *just in case* GreekChat's server ever crashes again in a major way. The last server crash happened 3 years ago and, if I'm remembering correctly, caused GC to be offline for a few weeks while the data was recovered. Back then twitter would have been incredibly useful for posting updates on how things were going with restoring GC, posting an alternative temporary forum and to post when GC was back online. Other uses will likely be to quickly announce any significant changes or new major features on GreekChat, etc. Feel free to follow at http://twitter.com/GreekChat |
Twitter is nothing but a status update version of facebook. SMH.
|
That's probably what I would mostly use GreekChat's twitter profile for, simple status updates. So... everybody cross your fingers and hope that you never receive a status update that says something like "oh no, server crashed..." ;)
If there are enough twitter followers then that group might end up being the first to be notified of new GC features, etc. |
i thought i couldn't handle any more addictions, but twitter has actually helped to wean me off FB. and im not doing a whole lot on twitter anyway, so this is great! pm if you want my info.

Someone set up an account as one of our founders- it's EstelleLeonard. She updates it with fun history facts about Alpha Chi!
|
I'm moderately addicted to Twitter too... I tweet all the time *smh*...
For those blackberry users out there that don't like/have trouble with TwitterBerry, check out TinyTwitter. I used TwitterBerry for about 47 seconds and decided that it wasn't going to be my friend... So I deleted it and got TinyTwitter, and I love it! Anywhoooo, follow me if you'd like... amesbelle |

Data... But, you can set up Twitter to use SMS to send/receive tweets. (Without twitterberry, twitterfon, tinytwitter, etc). |
Ive been on twitter for a while through our journalism classes which use it more now. Also ASAHQ is on twitter too which is really convenient.
|
i just started really using it and im looking for good ppl to follow.
|
"Good people to follow" is fairly subjective. For me I follow basically two types: those in my field, and locals. A sprinkling of newsy types and geeky celebs.
I've been on Twitter a while. It's been good at expanding work connections. I even just had a new coworker spend a couple nights at my place while she waits for her apartment to be ready. I met this woman on Twitter via another user that (at the time) I didn't know IRL. As for it being like Facebook; I know everyone on my Facebook page. I know a fraction of the people I follow/am followed by on Twitter. In fact those I know IRL tend to use it the least. My audience is different for both which is one reason I choose not to feed my tweets to FB. Anyone attend tweetups or twestivals in your towns? I've been going regularly since February though I feel like the odd one out since most others attending are geeky guys (ok, I'm geeky, but not like that). |

I'm obsessed with Twitter. It's the best marketing/networking tool I've ever come across (and yes MooseGirl, I go to Tweetups). I'm at @SecndCitySoiree - most of my Tweets are about food, party planning, and the like.
|
bumping this again.
|
I live on Twitter
|
You know what's scary...
I just installed the Tweetie 2 app and one of the features it has is to allow you to find nearby twitterers...OMG within a 15 block radius there are at least 30 people twittering...hehe Twitter voyeurism...hmmmm |
I hate being out of the loop on new things. So....I finally caved and opened a Twitter account. I'm finding it a little strange but intriguing.
Could someone tell me what RT means when you see it right before someone's tweet? |
RT means "ReTweet" - it's a way of repeating what someone else said, and giving them credit.
Remember, Twitter is just a big cocktail party. The point is to engage with others. |

I can't take credit for it, but I like it to!
|
two points i want to share:
1. my frustration of searching for tweets from "everyone near me" and getting the most ridiculous, uneducated, asinine tweets. ugh. 2. according to a Pew study, Black women making less than 30K as recent grads are top tweeters: http://www.theroot.com/buzz/pew-stud...as-top-twitter i didn't know i had the potential to be a top user of any social networking site, especially since most of my tweets are RTs and replies.... oh wait, am i feeding the "black women always have something to say about something" stereotype though Twitter? OH NOES!!!!1! all of that to say, follow me! http://www.twitter.com/tld221 |
Quote:
I'm going to do that because I don't think it's a bad thing to have something to say about everything. :) OK - my twitter is wonky so I can't follow you now. Later. |
tld221, when you say "everyone near me" do you mean geographically or metaphorically (i.e. the people you're close with)? If it's the former, have you tried browsing wefollow.com? They list people on Twitter based on various categories, including location.

i'll try wefollow.com. i only am followng a few former co-workers-turned friends and random celebrities (and theyre not celebrities, its like news outlets and authors). |
