Did you really just refer to the Presidential Inauguration as "Obamastock"?
Sure. Why not? I really was referring to the whole assembling of people for the occasion, not the ceremony itself anyway.

It was a musical celebration of the entry of Obama's administration.

However, I hope this isn't another instance of the person overshadowing the process.

My sister's boss got to have dinner with Desmond Tutu, but I don't know if she got a pic. Still cool, though.

That's exactly how it is. Obama has been made out to be a celebrity, not a President. Comments like "Obamastock" and, as one of my friends on myspace had as his status, "Do you smell what Barack is cooking", very much liken it to some kind of entertainment event. This is NOT entertaining. It's history. It's a new person in the office who will hopefully help us. I think something similar would have happened if Hilary had been the one in the spotlight. Although I'm not sure we'd see her face on a pair of thongs.

This is why disrespect of Bush isn't funny. It wasn't funny when he was booooooed and it wasn't funny when he had a shoe thrown at him.

None of these people are above the process and what they represent.

It can be but it isn't required to be.

I consider most of this renewed interest in politics and the government to be fleeting and a fad. Remove the "fun" and newness of the election-inauguration, and the panic over the economy, and it's bad to the same old same old.

DaemonSeid 01-21-2009 08:37 PM

More goodies that I would like to share with you all...

Went back thru my camera...I actually got some shots of the swearing in ceremony. Not the clearest shots in the world but hey, even a zoom lens has its limits...ENJOY!

The pics are wonderful!!! You're so lucky. I wanted to go, but just didn't have the energy.

It was colder than an icecube! :( On an unrelated note, it makes me so grateful to be alive whenever I hear anyone use the President's full name. And, I love and appreciate that his middle name is Hussein for all the reasons that people seem to think it's not such a good name.

I was wondering about something and haven't seen it mentioned yet. Did anyone else find it sad that W was booed? Perhaps he deserved it, but it was still a classless move.

I wouldn't say it made me sad, but it did bother me that such disrespect was shown to him, being that he is a U.S. President. You don't have to respect the man, but at least respect the title and position that he is in.

I thought that was sad. I mean, it's the Inauguration. I would have hoped that people would have shown him some respect.

And that's exactly what we were saying on the previous page. The person shouldn't overshadow the process/position.

I didn't know he was booed. I did hear Rick Warren get booed though.

Sometimes, despite the fact that I don't agree with Bush's politics, I still feel a bit of pity for him. Especially when things like that happen. I don't much care to see anyone booed in public. I think it is disrespectful, rude, and often hurtful. No need for all of that. I'm thankful that we have President Obama and that Bush is gone, but he was still a president and the office itself deserves respect.

2 million plus more world wide booed at a man who in many people's eyes disrespected the position.

That is what they booed at...NOT the position.

Whether or not it was deserved, it was just not the time and place.

I felt really bad for Bush after watching W. For whatever reason I thought it was going to be a comedy, but it was actually really sad. I don't like him, but mostly because he didn't stand up for himself or Americans while getting steamrolled into bad policy by his cronies.

Don't kick a man while he's down and all that jazz....hmmm?

I also think it's a lesson for Obama and any leader who is stepping into power from here on in.

The people WILL MAKE MORE THAN SURE that you know what kind of a job that you are doing and hold you accountable for what you do as you represent the people.

Not just by numbers and stats but in action.

I agree with the sentiment of your post. I think, at least in part, this election represented some maturation for the nation's electorate.

Regarding the Bush reaction, perhaps silence or indifference, rather than booing might have been a better course of action -- but that's America, it's a big, brawling, messy country and people for the most part, have the right of free expression. ...the Republic won't crumble over it.

No. It was a celebration of Obama. Booing did not fit in that scenario.

I think dead silence would have been much better. Can you imagine that?

I missed the booing but I defintely heard people singing " na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey ..goodbye". I agree that wasn't the time or the place.

Great pictures. What kind of camera do you have?
I really envy you for being there. Did you see Cheney? I have a very hard time believing that he hurt his back moving a box. I know for a fact that he and his family and others in their positions do not have to lift a finger, much less a box. I am sooo glad he is gone.

I agree. I find it really hard to believe that the White House personnel would have him moving ANYTHING (even if he insisted). I wonder what actually happened.
