I actually have when I used to surf, but just sort of dealt with it until I got home and got in the shower. I guess under my rule I'll allow that exception as well since it's not intended to be fashionable. So the new rule under OtterXO is: Any use of Uggs, other than for purely functional reasons, is banned.

That's why I completely rephrased it :). Yes, you're appointed.

I agree. I mean I know they say that you can wear them year round but I don't buy that. Winter only for me.

LttleMsPrEp 12-24-2008 12:35 AM

I'm in Uggs from mid-September to early March (I'm totally that girl that wears Uggs and mini skirts in the spring). I don't wear them when it's hotter than 70 degrees though.

Agreed. I couldn't believe it when I saw this: I have family who live in Puerto Rico and we go at least every other year. Well, when I was there last year I saw 3 girls wearing Uggs (or fake Uggs). And to make it worse, they were wearing them with skirts.

Sure, it's not like everyone was wearing them, but I just couldn't believe that I saw it at all. It averages about 80 degrees in Puerto Rico. Okay, MAYBE it gets down to 70 at night in the winter but that's it! Why are Uggs even sold in Puerto Rico?!?

Maybe it's for the surfers? I hear that your feet can get pretty cold when you're done and Uggs are perfect for that kind of thing.

Perhaps. I did hear that Uggs were originally made for surfers...but these girls were NOT surfers. They were wearing them out on the town with tiny little skirts. Icky.

ETA- Oh I read the wrong part lol....Yes, that is probably why they're sold...but then the surfers should be the only ones wearing them!!!

tld221 12-24-2008 01:18 AM

i dont know if this is a fashion faux pas as its just dumb-looking, but girls wearing hoodies under leather jackets. just get a winter coat.

fantASTic 12-24-2008 01:52 AM

I don't know if this has been brought up yet...

But anyone WITHOUT a perfect figure wearing leggings or skinny jeans. Sorry, that size six ass is NOT going to cut it. Please go change. There are just some clothes that only certain people can wear...and we all need to know when we are NOT that person!

Since when is a size six ass too big?

And skinny jeans are just as dumb as fat jeans. Fat jeans try to cover the fact that you're fat because nothing fits. Skinny jeans just hug everything that is fat. Ok I'm rambling but no one looks good in skinny jeans.

And leggings are a fashion cop-out. They're kinda like george costanza's take on sweatpants.

Umm, one of my best friends is a size 8 and she looks just fine in skinny jeans and leggings thank you. Maybe the issue is the idiots who wear crop tops with them, not the jeans.

Stop wearing flares, bells, skinnies, drainpipes and all that other shit and just wear plain old school straight leg Levi's. If they were good enough for Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner they're good enough for you.

Fawn Liebowitz 12-24-2008 11:40 AM

I saw some little old ladies this morning wearing gold/metallic Crocs - one was wearing a windsuit and the other was wearing the gaudiest Christmas sweater I've ever seen (and trust me, I've seen some horrors).

A size 6 ass sounds like a pretty perfect figure to me!

I don't know if it's been brought up, but I don't like it when guys wear skinny jeans.

LttleMsPrEp 12-24-2008 12:47 PM

I don't mind guys in skinny jeans. I hate it when guys wear baggy skinny jeans..lol what's the point?

As far as the leggings thing I'm a big fan of that look. When I first went away to college I promised my mom that I wouldn't be that girl that goes to class in her pj's so I figured that leggings and uggs and a nice shirt was the next best thing lol. I don't think that there's a size requirement for leggings I just think that it depends on what top is being worn with the leggings. If a girl is wearing leggings with a crop top or a t-shirt that hasn't fit her since Fall 07 then there's a problem, but, if a girl is wearing it with a cardigan or a sweater that stops past her waistline no matter what her size I think it's perfectly fine.

VandalSquirrel 12-24-2008 06:36 PM

I think my bones are bigger than a size 6, but I am a really excellent example of Bergmann's rule.

I'd never wear skinny jeans because I think they are disgusting and even more disgusting when boys wear them.

It isn't a size thing to me, but anyone who wheres leggings and doesn't cover their butt just looks bad. I don't care if you are a size 0 or are the most toned person ever, where leggings under a baby doll shirt or a dress.

It is for skinny jeans and leggings.

annabella 12-27-2008 09:32 PM

as far as i'm concerned, most skinny jeans are just denim leggings.

We had a warm day in Ohio today and there was a girl wearing short shorts, Uggs, and a hoodie. I was driving down the road but I kind of wanted to stop and go "Do you realize how ridiculous you look?!" I can see if you're a surfer but we don't have a lot of those in Ohio. I immediately thought of this thread too when I saw her lol.

I would wear a hoodie in 60 degrees...depending on the wind chill.....Of course I am a born and bred Floridan. That does not excuse the Uggs, shorts, hoodie combo...

FHwku 12-29-2008 12:53 PM

uggs/shorts/hoodie says "i'm a whore in the winter, too."

AlphaGamGirl13 03-22-2009 12:32 AM

uggs/shorts/hoodie is never ok.. no matter what the weather

I went to Florida last week and there was a girl on the beach with a bikini top, a denim skirt and UGGS!! I really wanted to take a picture but i thought that might be rude haha

My boss (who is more than twice my age) wore a tube top with a pantsuit last week.

SWTXBelle 03-23-2009 07:50 PM

Didn't we decide tube tops = bad?

What? How does that even work? You mean, like instead of wearing a camisole under a suit jacket that she then had on all day, she wore a tube top? Or do you mean she was strutting around the office in only a tube top for some of the day? ETA: er, I mean a tube top and pants, I guess. Only a tube top would be a totally different issue.

She had the jacket on all day, but it was unbuttoned so you could tell it was a tube top. It was about 40 here that day just so you can realize the inappropriateness.

Agreed. She also wore a pink linen skirtsuit with black hose and pink peep toes a few weeks ago. I think she might provide me with endless fodder for this thread.

BF and I took his sister to a beach themed party at her HS and he made a comment about a girl that was walking in with a short, short skirt and wearing uggs. I think she had a tank top on too.

So weird. I have the impression that you live some place cold-ish, so the linen in early March is even weirder. The color scheme is also interesting.

I'm certainly no fashion maven, but I'm always perplexed when people are clearly making an effort to do something fashionably weird and they are over the age of 25 or so. If I'm doing something weird it probably reflects a lack of effort or will to do laundry.

This time of year is strange in Atlanta because it really does start getting warm and even hot, but it still seems wrong to really embrace summer fabrics, sandals, etc when there's still likely to be a cold snap. Who wants to wear linen one day and return to winter clothes the next? But it would be really hard to wait until Easter as your official start of season.

OMG. Linen suit....in winter....a pink suit....with black hose.....hose with peep toes....it's just too much. Too bad she didn't wear matching pink hose with sequins up the back.
