When my parents got divorced and my mom moved out we didn't have a lot of money because my dad worked as a landscaper. And, frankly, he wasn't that nice to us. Either way, my sister and I wore a lot of hand-me-downs and honestly, really looked a mess the whole time. We were smart kids, but didn't have a lot of cooth because we had basically been raising ourselves and staying at home alone since the fourth grade. (My parents got divorced in 7th grade but our home situation wasn't great when they were married either.) So, because of our lack of cool clothes, et al we were always the subject of nasty rumors. At one point, it was rumored that we were having a three-some with my best friend from elem school. I'm trying to paint the picture of two bright girls who always go to school and have their homework done but may sometimes be inappropriate and look un-kept. Obviously, it wasn't our fault our home life was crap and we had no one to teach us how to be polite.

My eighth grade math teacher had a son a year older than us, a son a few years younger, and her husband was the principal of the high school we were about to go to. (I'll never forget this and maybe it doesn't really count as a rumor.) We were at a baseball game one afternoon because going to games and such kept us from having to go home. We were talking to the math teacher's younger son and she called him over to her chair. From where we were, we could hear her telling him not to talk to us.

It kills me that she thought we were going to corrupt her precious little son. It amazes me that WE were going to corrupt her son, but the basketball star son only survived one year at NC State before dropping out to work on Mommy's farm.

Me & Steph were able to overcome our situation and are now both about to graduate with degrees (she in december and me in may). Steph has been an active member and successful officer of Alpha Gam and I am currently holding my 2nd office in SAI, have an office in Phi Sig, am a manager at my job, got a scholarship, was awarded a prestigious internship with NC State Gov't and recently got Dean's list. Sometimes, I really just want to let that math teacher know that we could hear her and make sure she knows how successful I have been here at school.

During my senior prom, I was on "too many drugs" and that was why I was throwing up in the bathroom. Never mind that I had a nasty stomach bug, and had dropped nearly 10lbs because I couldn't stop throwing up everything for 2 days before hand.

There was a rumor during my sophomore year of high school that I beat up this guy at a party. The truth was that I was walking down the street and saw him fall off his skateboard, crash into his moms car and fall to the pavement hard. I ran to help him but the moron who started the rumor just saw me running thus ASSuming I was the culprit. Since then, everyone at school thought I was a bad ass and didn't bother me.
Even better was that at our 10 year reunion last year, they did a before/after slide of us and what people thought you were going to turn out to be. Most of my high school peers voted they thought I would be a corrections officer or bounty hunter. They were shocked to find out I was a kindergarten teacher. :p

Dare I ask - are you a Skankees fan or a Messed Fan? ;)

Getting back to topic - there was a rumor that I wanted to be a nun. The horror!

Die-hard Yankees fan, since the days of Donnie Baseball and Dave Winfield (and, unfortunately, Andy Hawkins and Alvaro Espinoza).

I get really bad migraines and have very specific migraine medication (Imitrex) when I get attacks. My MIL was staying with us for a month or so when she was sick and I was taking care of her. When she moved out she told my SIL that I was on "heavy, powerful drugs" and I still think they don't believe me, thinking it must have been painkillers or whatever. I never knew why she said that because no one would know when you take Imitrex -- you don't get tired, excited, or anything else. I suppose she was reacting to the way I looked when I had a severe migraine or what I did (retreated to a dark room and tried to sleep).

My MIL always talks badly about the other person when they're not there, so I was the victim then. When she visits now, she talks badly about my SIL. I never respond because I assume she talks that way about us when we're not there.

Well, I don't think this falls under the category of "nasty" rumor, but it's pretty random.

A few months ago, I parked my car in a parking lot across the street from my neighborhood bar, and attempted to cross the street. Except I got hit by a car. I was fine, it was super embarrassing (and NOT my fault!) and it was pretty much the talk of the town (well, of the bar patrons, at least) for a couple weeks.

Around this time I heard the rumor that I was wasted and that I had a cup of beer in my hand, and when I got hit by the car, that my beer did not even spill. WTF? Who makes something like that up? For the record, I was completely sober, considering I was DRIVING, and I didn't have a beer in my hand because I had just gotten out of the CAR. Gah!

(Oh, and the person who told me that he had heard this rumor was completely serious, and seemed to think that the person who passed it on to him was being serious as well)

Let's see. The worst one about me was started by my English Teacher when I was a senior in high school.

The reason why is a very long and drawn out story that took place from August to May of my senior year that resulted in a lot of drama with her (she was also our speech and debate team coach -- this is why there was drama), our two assistant coaches (men -- ages 24 and 28) and my three best friends (the other captains of the team).

Basically, the team fell apart around her and she didn't want to blame it on herself so she fired our two assistant coaches (who did 99.5% of the work) and then exiled us pretty much (and we were state qualifiers in debate, so we know how to argue and be persuasive, so not smart on her part ;)).

It truly is long and drawn out and takes me nearly 45 minutes to tell in person about all the events that happened that year.

To make things short, after she fired the assistant coaches, she told the administration at my school that I was sleeping with the 24 year old. This got me in trouble for the fact I was 17, he was 24 and it was almost like student-teacher relations. The problem is, I wasn't sleeping with him and he had a girlfriend. We were just great friends, as I had known him since I was 6 years old, and I was the one who gave my teacher his number to come help out with the team.

I'm still frustrated to this day.

I know that these are all rumors that were started about you, but I would think that it would have been HIM in trouble, not you. After all, as a teacher, he is in a position of authority / trust, etc..I'm sure you catch my drift.

In grade 11, some nasty boys started a rumour that I went behind the pool with a guy in our grade and within seconds, started giving him a BJ. It was definitely not true, and it was really humiliating to have to listen to the taunts. Sigh.

Another girl started a rumour that I was going around before rush, saying that I was "guaranteed a bid" and that I could pick and choose whereever I wanted to be. AS IF!

this reminds me of a rumor that i kindasorta started in middle school, that one of my teachers was a child molester. it was a joke, and then people took it seriously (this is after i built up a pretty strong case) and next thing you know, ACS is investigating my social studies teacher.

while it never got back to my mom, i sure feel the wrath of that one, because it went from funny to humiliating in the course of a week.

I've been thinking a lot about this thread. I honestly can't think of anything (at least that I've heard) that someone has said about me that isn't true. LOLOL! Gotta keep thinkin.
