What a remarkable lady. I was reading about some of her great contributions and only hope that I will leave a legacy of love like she did.

In the Cleveland Plain-Dealer...
As a former resident of the Cleveland area, I was reading the online Plain-Dealer, and was so excited to see the following article...
http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008..._a_big_pa.html It is so wonderful to see the late Rep. Tubbs Jones's fraternal commitment highlighted in the newspaper for all to read! I am sure that Delta Days at the Capitol will never be the same, and my sympathies to all Deltas on this loss. On a side note, nearly all NPHC women I know are Deltas (former Orientation Team Big Sister, a former RA of mine, colleagues, etc.). A few are actually from Cleveland and active there. All are great testaments to your organization! |

Thank you for sharing! :) |

This past weekend has been filled with so many emotions while we reflected on the life of Stephenie Tubbs Jones in Cleveland. She accomplished so much, and discovering all of the things she did for many locally... things that I am still learning about. What makes her truly amazing is that she never did anything for the publicity, because much of what she was doing in and for our community was unknown to many. She helped people because it was truly from her heart.
The number of people that turned out in Cleveland to honor her life was truly incredible. The number of people that came together to march in the labor day parade left me speechless. The Deltas were representing, of course! We will miss seeing Stephanie Tubbs Jones at our sorority meetings, in our community, and serving as a warrior in the political arena and world overall. She is such an inspiration.... |
Thank you to Benzgirl...
... for posting the link for the service for Soror Tubbs- Jones. I watched and cried for all of her family and friends who will miss her tremedously! What a remarkable person she was. Soror Tubbs-Jones spoke at the Social Action Luncheon at the Midwest Regional Conference in Milwaukee in 2007. She will be missed!!!

Soror Marcia Fudge is running for Soror Tubbs Jones' Congressional seat
Sorors,
I just received an email saying that Past National President Marcia Fudge is running for Soror Tubbs Jones' seat.:D Soror Fudge was once Soror Tubbs Jones chief-of-staff. ************************************************** ******* Warrensville Heights Mayor To Run For Tubbs Jones' Seat Marcia Fudge Announces Candidacy WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia L. Fudge is throwing her hat into the ring to replace U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones in congress. Tubbs Jones, a Democrat who was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, died last month after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm. Fudge released the following statement on Monday: "On Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, our community joined together to celebrate the life of my dear friend Stephanie Tubbs Jones. It was the spirit of unity, sincere outpouring of love and the prayers of many that have led me to declare my candidacy for the seat vacated by Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I wish to continue her work and build on her legacy of kindness, good deeds, and zealous representation of all people of the 11th Congressional District of Ohio. "It is my hope that the leadership of this community will develop a process of identifying a consensus candidate so that we may move forward together. It would be an honor and privilege to represent the 11th Congressional District of the State of Ohio." The ballot replacement for Tubbs Jones will be selected by members of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party's executive committee who live in the 11th district. Tubbs Jones' term expires at the end of December. A replacement likely will not be elected until November. http://www.newsnet5.com/politics/17358675/detail.html |

I would vote for her too, if I lived in Ohio!! I wish her all of the best. :D
|
I think it will be a shoo-in.
|
I live in Ohio, but can't vote for her. I'm in District 13. Stephanie's district is 11.
I'm in the "interesting district" as all political commentators refer to it. Thank you Republicans for drawing arbitrary lines. http://www.house.gov/chabot/images/N...tMapLarge2.jpg |
