no - we weren't. Largest I can remember is around 140-150. Chapter total was raised to 140 in late 80s/early 90s, if I remember correctly.

West Georgia
Heard today that 228 pnms have already signed up and the last day is August 25th!
Usually about 30 or so don't even show up so that's is great!! Last year, I think about 150 signed up and 130 showed up?? :D |
That's awesome Lynn!
How did they go about increasing the numbers for recruitment?? I'm worried about Western Carolina's sorority recruitment....When I was an undergraduate we usually had around 125 go through recruitment with 90ish sign bid cards... this last recruitment only 55 signed up and 35 signed bid cards...maybe your Panhellenic can get Western in gear LOL We don't do formal until the spring which is a downer anyways...I'm so nervous about this semester...We need 23 women to get to chapter total (55). I just did my recruitment workshop last week and informal recruitment kick starts next week!! I'm getting soooo anxious...and I'm really hoping for a great turn out for Formal in the spring...I might not have any hair left if the number trend keeps going the way it goes!!! |
Without knowing specifics, I am guessing that the great job of Panhellenic to promote Greek life, the new stadium and esp. the new Greek village have a lot to do with it. Both the new stadium and GV are supposed to open next fall.
I think that one of the reasons for "low" turn out is that Labor Day weekend is the 1st 3day weekend of the semester and pnms don't want to stay in town. I don't know why last year was especially bad. Sassy...I was wondering why WC doesn't have fall recruitment. I don't know much about the area but it would seem that fall would be "warmer" than January.;) |
Lynn...
I'll tell you... One of my goals before I finish being the Recruitment Advisor is to get the campus to boot deferred recruitment. But before I can do that I need to get my facts together...especially on university retention rates, scholarship, etc. WCU is a place that has absolutely nothing to do (No lie...no chain restaurants besides fast food...no "young people" hang outs...no mall for 45 miles) so people either leave the university after their first semester or they "have no reason" to go Greek because they have gotten involved in other things on campus or "don't need to pay for friends" when they made their own. I think there are so many great leaders at WCU that just never gave it thought because of the Spring Recruitment period. With the declining numbers its really going to give me an ulcer LOL. I guess if this year has poor participation again then I will really have to start putting together a case to get rid of deferred recruitment. Speaking about gaining a GV...the peak of our recruitments were the year that we first had the GV. They are great communities to have. I'm anxious for this year with it being my first year being the Recruitment Advisor!! I'm going to be biting my nails until the year is over :) |
