Kwame's GF, Christine Beatty is publicly saying that she will gladly testify against him for immunity. Why this now? Apparently the text messages show that he wasn't just cheating on his wife, he was also cheating on his mistress. I don't think they're going to give her immunity... I think they have enough evidence without her testimony, but this is worse than a soap opera!

Because a few people here seem to care...
Today, Kwame was arraigned on the assault on the police officer charges. He was offered a plea bargain.. they would drop one of the two felonious assault charges if he resigned from office by September 3rd (the date the governor is having a removal hearing). They decided to think on it. His legal team has come back and said no way. September 3rd can't get here soon enough. Word is that Jennifer Granholm is getting pressure from the Democratic Party and even from Obama to remove this joker from office. |
So, the Governor began hearings today to remove him from office. Then, after a full day of hearings, this came out:
http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/17383212/detail.html Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is expected to accept a plea deal on Thursday in his perjury case that will end his tenure as the city's mayor and send him to jail. Sources told Local 4 the mayor is expected in court at 9 a.m. Thursday in front of Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner, where he will reportedly go on record and plead guilty to a deal that includes jail time, a six-figure restitution, community service and a mandate that he would not run for office again. |
First, I love every Alpha brother.
Second, it's definitely time to step back Effie, I mean Kwame. Finally, I think the plea deal is fair EXCEPT barring him from running for another office. That just seems..eh... I dunno, infringatory. lol |
Here in Oklahoma, we had a similar thing happen with our former Democratic governor. He committed perjury, a felony.
Instead of putting him through the ringer as Mayor Kilpatrick has experienced, the courthouse was opened up "special" for the governor at 7 P.M. where he pled out to a completely unrelated misdemeanor. Your Detroit mayor is guilty of one major infraction -- alienating himself enough from the powers that be that such a charge would actually stick. |
From other things I've read, I think it will be that he can't run for office for 5 years.
He's done a lot more than that, Kevin. Or are you saying that was his biggest mistake? |

He physically assaulted someone.... a LEGAL OFFICIAL. He committed perjury. And everyone is pretty sure he is hiding information about the murder of a stripper after a party at HIS mansion, which adds on to I don't know how many other stories about Kwame's connection to it. He was asked to resign by multiple people, including the pastor from HIS OWN CHURCH. He never wanted to stand down, even when everyone knew he was lying. He continued to prance around town like a pimp and today, while our Governor was in court to get his ass out of office, he was shown driving with his little punkass son who was laughing and pretending to shoot hoops out of the passenger side window. And can I add that during his State of the City speach, his kids were laughing, looking like little mini Pimp Kwame's, and it looked like they didn't care, just like they're father. Detroit and our court systems didn't put him through the ringer. He put himself through the ringer, embarrassed his family, embarrassed our city, and has put numerous city employees (police officers and others) through hell. So really, he's guilty of NUMEROUS infractions. Please. Learn about a topic before you go spouting off. |

It's official. He accepted a plea bargain including the following: guilty of two counts of obstruction of justice and no contest to one count of felonious assault .
120 days jailtime 5 years probation (during which he cannot run for office) Immediate letter of resignation with effective date no later than 9/18/08 (which sounds nuts to me, you let him keep running things for two more weeks?? How much damage can be done during those two weeks?) 1 million dollars restitution to the City of Detroit over the next 5 years including the surrender of his state pension |
He's pleading right now. I duno if he's trying to hold back tears or trying not to laugh. Christine Beatty looks HIT UP. Carlita Kilpatrick looks like she wants to kill Kwame. She's probably thinking "Well there goes my Navigator, my mansion, my Escalade, my fur coats, my diamonds, etc..." I wish I could say I feel sorry for her, but after hearing about the stuff that she was involved in with the infamous Manoogian Mansion party, I don't.

Yes, he's officially convicted of a felony which automatically disbars him in Michigan (assuming that's true everywhere? I'm sure our law student GCers will chime in).
The police chief has retired effective immediately. Christine Beatty has not accepted a plea deal. |
