What I've heard is that Pennington is probably headed to Minnesota. They had some interest in him anyway. His numbers have been pretty good; if he stays healthy, and the Vikings stay within his skill set (high accuracy, short-to-middle passing game), it will be a good pick up. Plus, he'd be a pretty big improvement over Jackson. ETA: He didn't have a great year last year, but Football Outsiders had him ranked as a top-10 quarterback statistically in 2006. The Jets receivers last year were horrible in getting yards after the catch (26th in the league), which hurt Pennington's numbers. (Additionally, Green Bay was #1 in that category last year, which may help explain Favre's great stats)
Clemens is still young, so a year or two of Favre isn't going to throw the development plan off that far. Plus, he was having a really rough start to training camp, so it's questionable whether he would have started ahead of Pennington, anyway.

The funny thing about this whole ordeal is, in my opinon, Rodgers isn't even the Packers best QB prospect. I think Brohm will end up having a better career. If anyone lucks out in this, it's Matt Flynn; if Favre stayed, Flynn had a good chance of being cut. Now, he can at least compete for the #3 position.

Ksig...if I remember correctly, 2006 was the last time they went to the playoffs....they have had an up and down time with him the last 4 or 5 years.....Chad will probably fit right in....and maybe teach Tavaris a thing or 2...can you imagine if he stays healthy with Adrian Peterson pounding the ball?

But see now it works out for the Pakcers (back to what you were saying) because now there is more breathing room at teh QB position...face it for the last 10 or so years the WORST place to play was Favre backup.....now the worst place to be is Jim Sorgi's backup....lol

The Jets were in the playoffs in 2006, but the Vikings weren't; I'm not sure which team you were referring to in your post.

The Vikings are going to be pretty good next year anyway, and an upgrade to Pennington from Tavaris wouldn't hurt. The running game is very good, and while Peterson is pretty sick, a large part of it is a function of the offensive line (Chester Taylor was over 5 yards per carry when he played).

Favre was the best quarterback on the Packers roster, and they're probably a .500 team at best this year. Hopefully the Green Bay fans aren't too tough on Rodgers, because he's been put in one heck of a position, especially if Favre puts up good numbers with the Jets.

I'm more willing to give guys, especially younger players, a free pass on what they say to the media, especially with the spot Rodgers is in. Most of these guys get a free pass from the media when they're in college, so when someone starts asking them difficult questions, it can be tough not to spout off.

He'll learn to start speaking in media-friendly soundbites soon enough...

I was wondering about this last night.

This is a friggin' circus and I hate it.

Seriously? It really doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me - other than ESPN's over-saturation (which is entirely the result of the "dog days" for the baseball season) during a slow news cycle, I don't really fault the guy at all.

He wound up with something resembling a good scenario - other than having to play the Pats twice a year (early prediction: 5 INTs between those two games - they'll eat up the ol' gunslinger), he's in a relatively easy division with a good coaching staff and moderately comparable talent around him, on the biggest possible stage. Plus, he winds up collecting $25 million to keep playing a game he loves. I don't fault the guy in the slightest, but maybe I'm weird.

It's kind of funny you put Vick's felony in the same category as T.O.'s and Favre's contract/retirement disputes.

The Favre thing didn't bother me too much, and it really doesn't bother me when a NFL player puts the screws to his team. With the lack of guaranteed contracts in the league, I don't blame players for trying to get what they can, when they can get it.

When I saw he was going to the Jets this morning I was shocked! I'm still not sure how I feel about it, I am sad Chad is leaving. He is a great QB, just been injury plagued for so long now. As a longtime Jets fan (family had season tickets for over 20 years before Dad gave them up in '05) it should be an interesting season and we'll see where this goes.

I read somewhere they are already selling Favre jersey's online. Crazy!
