I can recall a school (chartered) in my city that condones and still enforces spanking of sorts. Nothing more than a good swat on the back of the hand of bottom with a ruler, but if/when I ever have children I'd send them there.

Public schools would be better if this method were still implemented, but alas, our country is full of people who believe "time-out" is just punishment. I was beat senseless and I think I turned out all right in the long run.

I'm not really offended but I'm thinking you're a little unhinged, maybe just about this issue, I don't know. I don't care if you don't, but if you're posting your opinions and you want to sell an idea, maybe advocating the murder of bad teachers isn't the way to go.

Agreed! Being a teacher myself I totally agree! While nothing so serious has happened to me (I have only been pushed around and called several cuss words), I can honestly say that those teaching in public school have an uphill battle on their hands. When I was in college, one of my supervising teachers had death threats nearly every day. Another friend of mine (who happens to teach those with special needs) has had broken fingers, black eyes, a broken arm, and bites and cuts so deep she had to go to the ER. All this and she went back into her classroom and kept teaching, even when she was offered a transfer.

All this is probably one of the reasons I currently teach in private school!

I have to ask this question..what is the difference between kids in public school and private school as far as behavior?

I taught in public school a few years back and my students were very rarely problems...I accredit most of that success due to having a very close rapport with thier parents and an open door policy for them to drop in when needed.

I just still simply believe that kids and what they do in the school system is based on what kind of interaction and relationship the schools themselves have with families of thier students...

Most of the kids who had a discipline problem at the private school at which I taught were actually refugees from the public school system - one I'm thinking of had been kicked out of her public school because she assaulted a teacher. She was NUTZ and should not have been admitted, in my opinion. But overall, I think students rise to your expectations.

And they are now reporting that the 9 year old "mastermind" of the plot threatened another student with the knife (I'm sure she deserved it :cool:) and that is how the plot came to light.

Agreed. My mom (and several of my aunts) have been teachers for at least a couple of decades now and they have seen the kids get progressively worse behavior-wise.

And the parents? "what??? My angel wouldn't do that!!!!!" Whatevs. Those kids need some discipline.

I honestly laughed at this story. It is a truly sad commentary on our society that 3rd graders can put together a rudimentary murder/terrorism plot against a teacher.
