Oh, I get that.

It just cracks me up that students actually have to be TOLD to hide things like that and that it's not second nature.

A PNM shouldn't have to hide her political views on her facebook profile. The actives know not to talk about politics and can steer around the topic if the PNM brings it up, so why would it matter if her profile said "Very Liberal" or "Very Conservative" or anything in between?

I agree with that. If someone doesn't want some one in their sisterhood because of their political beliefs, that's just plain sad, anyway. I would hope that by now we've moved beyond that, but one never knows...

Honestly, I'd be kinda leery of any political sceince major who has no views. Not leery enough to make a difference in anything, but still...it's your major and you have no opinion? LOL.

Granted, you probably don't want to join any groups that deal with legalization of various controlled substances. Even if that's truly something you believe in, those ones (depending on your campus culture--I'm speaking for the really, really conservative set of colleges here, so take it as that) can sometimes give off the wrong message, IMHO.

On the other hand, couldn't a PNM make facebook into a proactive tool during rush? I'm in a fraternity but my sorority friends often mention "facebook stalking" PNMs during rush. I could see it being a beneficial thing if a PNM did the following:
1. Blocked anybody from seeing her tagged pictures
2. Had a pretty and natural picture of herself for her default picture
3. Deleted her wall
4. Filled her interests with conversation starters...ie, travel, volleyball, etc so the actives could get a better sense of what she was like and match her up with sisters who are into the same things
5. Joined "classy" groups relating to her favorite activities, major, etc.
6. Deleted things like "political views"

I could see a PNM doing this strategically...if she knows that somebody in the chapter will be stalking her, why not make put the ball in her court by giving them the things they want to see?

I can't get over deleting political views. Seriously? Even at the big SEC schools, all the sororities seem to brag that their members are active in CReps and CDems. I think founders of most of our groups wanted women to be politically active.

I was president of College Dems when I went through rush and you would have had to be a moron on my campus to not realize that (it was a highly visible position) so to not have my political affiliation would have just seemed odd to me.

It seems like common sense not to put pictures of yourself doing anything illegal on the internet. If you're too dumb to know better than that...you deserve what's coming to you.

But speaking for myself, I'm not going to consider dropping a PNM because she has the word "whore" on her profile...it's how people talk.

A PNM with 5409565786589384594380 pictures tagged of her doing shots with side-boob showing and a boy in her lap in everyone...I'm all for having fun, but some people make partying a job, not a hobby. Blech.

My daughter did not take down her political view. She said I am not stupid and I have an opion even though it my not be the majority but it is hoe I feel. I did have her take down the picture of her in a hot tub with red cups. Even though there was just coke in the cups. I told her that her grandmother would probably think different. She said oh yea. Then later admitted they were trying to look cool and it went somewhere but not her profile pic.

A pet peeve of mine is people who think they're all that and every other picture is of them flipping off the camera...come on...grow up!

People really do that?

You'd be surprised how UNcommon sense it is to not have pictures of your drinking on Facebook. I frequently have to go through and clean up my profile after someone else I know gets in trouble. Whoops...

Because colleges tend to take large amounts of girls from certain areas (for instance, KC and Wichita at KU), it's easy to "facebook stalk" a PNM because she may be a friend of a friend of a friend. I'm pretty good at digging up dirt, I must say. Making your profile friends-only is not enough to keep that stuff from prying eyes.

However, I've known many girls who joined top houses with TONS of incriminating pictures, listing "drinking and boys" as their interests, the whole nine... sigh.

Or just be a lady.

It has been my experience that any sorority that took a girl with a blatantly inappropriate profile ended up regretting it in some way. There was a girl who came through my last year of recruitment whose profile pic was of her doing a keg stand. Her interests included (no joke) "jagerbombs, blacking out, not going to class." Holding a drink in a pic does not bother me at all, but every single one of her pics was of her chugging stuff like 151. She was also obnoxious in real life. She ended up pledging a sorority, coming to the house drunk during her NM period and attempting to break things.

Hahaha wooow... That's a classy broad.

I can't imagine a girl like that getting a bid from anyone at my school (well maybe except for one org), and my school isn't even that competitive.
