I thought of a couple new ones for me: Charlotte Martin Tina Arena Daniel Rodriguez Sarah Shannon Blackmore's Night Audra McDonald Katie Todd Ginny Owens Giorgia Fumanti Jimmy Wayne It's mostly been (female) soloists lately. Oh, and I threw Loreena McKennitt and Culann's Hounds in my mix so I get some strong Irish music as well.:) |

And as I'm listening to Sara Bareilles more, I realize how much she sounds like Tristan Prettyman, not sure who I like more... |
Isn't Ginny Owens a Christian singer who's blind...? Or am I thinking of someone else? If that's the lady I'm thinking of, she did a small live show for my company when I was in the Army and gave out free CD's when she left and we all got to meet her - the chaplain liked to get us Christian artists to see to lift our spirits a little bit since we were all the injured kids from Basic. Sorry, OT.

American Bang
The Loft Cage the Elephant Eileen Rose Sara Bareilles (she's the girl on the piano singing in the living room on that Rhapsody ad. the song is "Love Song.") |
My new favorite obsession is Pela, their cd "anytown graffiti" is amazing ("lost to the lonesome" is a new fave)
also, check out Andrew Bird. Here's a link to NPR's all songs considered top cd's of the year, i'm already digging on a bunch of them. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=17144780 |
I've been listening to Ray LaMontagne and Bob Schneider a lot recently, thanks mainly to Pandora (though I did get Lamontagne's first cd a couple of weeks ago - awesome stuff).
Other than those guys, my 2007 has been dominated musically by: The Polyphonic Spree Silversun Pickups Doves Jack's Mannequin I'm intrigued by the few Feist songs I've heard - some are phenomenal, some I find a little off. I have a similar feeling about The Dresden Dolls Omaha radio really, really, really blows so I just heard "Ghost of you lingers" from Spoon for the first time yesterday...wow. May have to look into them more. Other bands, that are completely overlooked in Omaha include - The Kooks, Band of Horses, The Shins, Muse, The Fratellis, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, LCD Soundsystem, and pretty much any other "it" band of the year. For a town that's home to Saddle Creek Records (Bright Eyes et al), you'd think they'd be better at this, but they're not... |
Bob Schneider is from Austin. Good guy. See him often around here.

totally forgot the name of the artist, but the song "Mushaboom" and the album is sooo mellow
*going to iTunes* ETA: found her, her name is Feist... sooo good!! |

Also AF, if you like poppish celtic music, try Clannad. They aren't new per se, but they don't get much airplay here at all. Their sister is Enya the new age singer and she also sings with them sometimes. |
