Ever want to see a grown man cry? I saw my father practically in tears when he tried teaching me to drive a stick shift on his Beamer. It was the only family car that wasn't automatic. He figured that I wouldn't be that bad. HAH! I bunny-hopped while accelerating after every stop sign. My father, who was close to hyperventilation, made me pull over and he drove the rest of the way home (we were only a quarter mile away....I guess I was that bad).

I plan on learning how to drive a gear shift sometime in the near future... I hope

I have an automatic Cavalier now, but my last car, a sporty neon was a stick, and when I get my Mustang next year, it HAS to a stick. no question-sorry, but I just think anyone who gets a SPORTS CAR with an automatic is a FREAK. It defeats the whole purpose!! Just my personal opinion though. Hope I dont offend anybody. But I am one of those girls who spent lots of time with guys with fast cars-mustangs, Ram Air firebirds, eclipse, etc. So I love the rumble of those cars!!

I completely agree with not having your significant other teach you!!!!! My fiance was determined to teach me how to drive a stick and since I couldn't get it, it was very frustrating to him and I got mad at him for being frustrated...anyway, get your dad or a friend to teach you!

Only automatic for me. I can drive stick if I need to but its too much of a pain. I am not that great. With my luck I would burn out the clutch.

Our Drivers Ed class was taught with a standard. Of course one must consider the decade I began driving.

Actually, being raised on a farm, I can drive a tractor!

Yep. My first car was a stick shift. :)

Nope.

Maybe if I had a really awesome sports car I might learn to drive standard.

I never learned how to drive a stick shift. I learned to drive in an automatic, and my mom and husband can't drive a stick shift (my dad used to be able to, but hasn't in about 40 years), so I just never learned. Put it in drive and forget about it! :)

I've always wanted to learn, though - if only so that I can buy a car that my husband, and future children, will never want to borrow b/c they won't be able to drive it ;) (My husband is all about automation. He makes fun of me because I won't use cruise control.)

The weird thing about my dad is that he got used to driving using 2 feet, so he still does. Only now, it's one foot for the gas, one for the brake. That really screwed me up when my driver's ed teacher wanted me to drive using only one foot...
