Is there a lot of fraternities that start with Sigma Phi on your campus? I've never heard of a nickname based on the last letter. At my campus, we call ΛXA "Lambs". Most others are based on their letters:

Phi Sigma Kappa: "Phi Sigs"

Sigma Phi Epsilon: "Sig Eps"

Pi Kappa Alpha: "Pi Kaps"

Delta Sigma Phi: "Digs" (by people outside their influence for possibly burying pledges prior to recolonization) "Delta Sigs" by themselves".

Lambda Chi Alpha: "Lambs"

Sigma Nu: "Sig Nu"

Sororities:

Delta Delta Delta: "Tri Delts"

Zeta Tau Alpha: "Zetas".

Pi Beta Phi: "Phi Phis"

Alpha Chi Omega: "Alpha Chis"

Alpha Xi Delta: "Alpha Zs"

Alpha Sigma Tau = Taus

I believe that this is used because LOTS of sororities have Alpha and Sigma in their name, but I think they're the only (or one of the only) with Tau in their name.

I found this interesting, also along the lines of using the last letter for nicknames. On my campus, Theta Phi Alpha is generally just known as "Theta". One of our girls visited a friend of hers on another campus and somehow came across another girl and got into the discussion of GLO's.

My sister asked the other girl what org she was in, and she replied "Theta". So my sister was like "Cool! We're sisters! Yay Theta Phi Alpha." The other girl looked at her strangely and was like, "Uhm. No. I'm a sister of Delta Sigma Theta. *OUR* nickname is Theta." My sister said the girl was quite huffy about it.

"Theta," to me, and most of the NPC community = Kappa Alpha Theta.

Yes. And I've NEVER seen a DST call themself a Theta...

I mean, their handsign is a Delta for a reason, right? Otherwise they'd probably form an "O" with thumb & forefinger and stick another finger in the middle for the "~" or something along those lines...

Then I guess it's certainly a 3-way battle. ;-)

We also go by Theta Phi, but my campus is lazy vocally; Theta Phi Alpha is just "Theta", Tri-Sigma is just "Sigma", etc, etc.

To me, any nickname such as Theta, Alpha Sig, Alpha Chi, etc. is not a non-letter nickname.

I think the non-letter went out the door on post #1.

When I was at The University of Kentucky, the following fraternities often went by their last letter.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon = Es (not Epsilon but the English pronunciation "e")
Sigma Nu = Nus
