I don't think it's that big of a deal. We did little dances and cheers during our new member time. I'm a shy person and I can't say I was jumping up and down in excitement but never once thought to myself, "Omgosh, I should have joined XYZ instead".

They're just having fun.

Yeah I need to catch up like woah. I have no clue who Bobbi is. I kinda tailed off watching when Rory went off the rails because it ticked me off so much.

IMO, doing something during bid day that would cause a NM to feel out of place or embarrassed would make me think twice....but that's me

The ride the pony thing makes me picture my high school chearleading squad getting pumped for games. I'd watch them and think wuh? But they seemed to enjoy themselves and it did look like fun.

OMG! I know this song and we did it, too!!! It was nothing like Ginuwine or anything sexual. It is purely in good fun, and is very innocent. It's just being silly and dancing. On my campus, it's done like a cheer with clapping and the sisters stop in front of one of their friends or their "rush crush" and just dance--the other person doesn't have to dance and it's generally just a good time had by all. The Chi Os also do the same thing. I promise it's not hazing! It's just a celebration sort of dance!!! :p

Now why is that? Granted I've got my late 1970's post rush mind set going on. But the All-Greek mixers that I remember were fun and positive. A celebration of being Greek as it were.

The reason I ask is that NPC rush (as it was called then) ended during the middle of IFC rush. Most of the pledge classes - after they did their bid day stuff - would make the rounds at some of the fraternity rush parties to "introduce" themselves. I personally loved meeting all the new sorority members.

"Ride that pony" is an excellent way to get to know names. We did that at my new member retreat and it was amazing. If you didn't know a name before they were called in the center to dance then you certainly knew it by the time they came out! It's super fun and hilarious and I think it'd be an awesome bid day tradition, but ONLY if you have 40 or less people present. After that it'd just take 100 million years to complete.

the sad thing is when girls in jr. high or the beginnings of high school have to make it sexual. we're talking about riding a pony. not grinding. i personally love ride the pony. and sally walker -- anyone played that? "little sally walker, walkin' down the street...she didn't know what to do so she stopped in front of me! she said hey _____ do your thing, do your thing, SWITCH! hey girl do your thing, do your thing switch!"

my FAVORITE part of bid day when i went through recruitment was the walk back from the quad to greek town...it's a good 3-4 blocks, depending on where your sorority's house is...everyone is chanting and singing and crying -- fraternity boys yelling and carrying on, music blaring from houses...the only sad thing is that only seniors are allowed to be on the quad to great the new members and take them back to the houses...so i have to wait until next year to experience it again...
