Did I miss it or did she ever tell what happened to the Dursleys after they left their home? And did we ever find out anything about Harry's really green eyes other than they were like his mother's?

Yay! for Molly. Maternal love prevails. I'm gonna name my next kid after her.

mystikchick 07-22-2007 03:53 PM

Carnation, you are too funny! But no, we have no answers to either. All that speculation about the eyes being a magical connection was wrong :P (though granted, y'all weren't too off about eyes having some power...(Ministry of Magic...))

I just finished (I would have last night but I MADE myself stop to draw it out and savor). I am happy. The ending was cheesy, too cinematic, the plot so-so, but I am pleased. My heart was pounding, my breath was shallow, I laughed (her tragedy doesn't get to me as much somehow), and overall, I am well pleased with this ending.

I think the best part about this book though, is that it affirms the power of love :)

Snape in the Pensieve :O
Those who died :(
Molly Weasley kicks some serious booty :D So does Professor McG :D :D :D

dvs-dz 07-22-2007 05:49 PM

And what about Professor Trelawney hurling all those crystal balls? I thought that was hilarious - she finally found a good use for them!

SPOILER:

Aw, I cried so much when a particular redhead died. :( And a certain animal. OK, I have a question about a sentence. On page 734, it says "... and Harry saw Charlie Weasley overtaking Horace Slughorn, who was still wearing his emerald pajamas. They seemed to have returned at the head of what looked like the families and friends of ever Hogwarts student....along with [people] from Hogsmeade." Does that mean that Slughorn is with the deatheaters? If so, then I totally missed something because I thought he was good.

No, Slughorn is fat and is being outrun by Charlie who is all athletic and dragon trainer lean.

ok...a few minor spoilers:

Snape had a very deep love for lily...thus he played the part of bad guy convincingly.

Harry was as I suspected a horcrux

Dumbelore pulls a Matrix / Obi Wan (think Matrix 3 trainstation)

The name Voldemort really becomes unusable

We finally learn about the wands and what they mean

Crabbe dies....heheheh

The centaurs attack.....finally

Lupin and tonks get separated from thier kids

I must say that I really enjoyed this book and as someone mentioned early on ...the first couple hundred pages get really dragged out but once they start putting together clues to the items bequeathed to them and the horcruxes...you get dragged in.....lemme take a peep over at wikipedia and see if some idiot has alreayd spoiled the whole thing....yup....they did

So, I haven't re-read the entire book yet, but I did scan the Epilogue because I'm wondering what Harry (and the others) ends up doing, work wise... remember when he wanted to be an auror (which they probably don't have as much use for) but what about the ministry? Idk, I just want to know what he does.

Spoilers/Questions

Ugh! Friday evening worked the Harry Potter book release party at Barnes and Noble (I went as Professor McGonagall), got home at 3 am and started reading. Promptly fell asleep after 2 chapters. Read most of Saturday and finished around 4am. I seriously need to catch up on sleep

I loved the book, but was astounded how many people died. I was really sad about Hedwig :(, I think I figured out which person got the reprieve and which two were the unexpected deaths (Hagrid, Tonks/Lupin).

I was curious though about the following--

Who became the new headmaster at Hogwarts?

Who was the person that was able to do magic late in life?

What happened to Luna?

What about the veil that Sirius fell through?

Did Hermione ever bring her parents back from Australia?

Who are Rose and Hugo named for?

Why wasn't anyone named for Sirius?

What happened to George? Does he still continue the joke shop?

Did the Dursleys return home?

er...Hagrid didn't die unless I missed something?

dvs-dz 07-23-2007 07:16 AM

Who became the new headmaster at Hogwarts?

I'm thinking Professor McGonagoll, but I'd like to think at some point later in life Harry becomes Headmaster (or at least teaches Defense against the Dark Arts)

Who was the person that was able to do magic late in life?

Bit of a puzzle here - perhaps Hagrid was finally "permitted" to perform magic?

What happened to Luna?

It seemed like there was a tiny hint of some interest with Dean. I think she either continued the Quibbler or taught Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts.

What about the veil that Sirius fell through?

What about it?

Did Hermione ever bring her parents back from Australia?

Once the danger from the Death Eaters passed, I imagine she at least restored their memory, but they may have decided to stay in Australia.

Who are Rose and Hugo named for?

I've been puzzling over this myself. They may just be new names

Why wasn't anyone named for Sirius?

Although it doesn't say so, I like to think that Sirius is the middle name for Harry's son James.

What happened to George? Does he still continue the joke shop?

I can't imagine George not doing jokes, but I think one of his brothers joins him. Perhaps Ron - that would drive Hermione nuts!

Did the Dursleys return home?

What would Privet Drive be without the Dursleys?

I borrowed these spoilers from BetteDavisEyes from the Harry Potter Speculation thread (I didn't want to re-print them in case some of you are still reading the book, and have not yet read them. Highlight to read) These were on the mark, except for one I think. Where did you get these from???

Dark Lord Ascending
-another first chapter that is not Harry's point of view
-very dark
-first death

In Memoriam
-back to Harry's point of view
-Dumbledore's past
-Rita Skeeter appears here. Apparently, Harry is not pleased.

The Dursleys Departing
-The Dursley's leave Privet Drive

The Seven Potters
-Harry, Ron, and Hermione are reunited
-Death Eater attack
-another death
-very intense

Fallen Warrior
-another death
-one person loses a body part
-scenes afterwards set in the Burrow
-Apparently, Harry gets drunk. (And I'm not pleased.) - I don't think Harry was drunk here. He had some firewhisky, and not used to something so strong, I think it caught him off guard, but I wouldn't say he was drunk.
-tells what happened with Ollivander

The Ghoul in Pajamas
-general plan discussion all around
-Hermione is scary

The Will of Albus Dumbledore
-Harry's birthday! Ron gives him a funny gift.
-Minister of Magic is back
-Lupin is acting off

The Wedding
-Weasley relatives, Luna's father, and Krum all make appearances
-Krum argues with Luna's father over the symbol
-Dumbledore's past again, which is not pleasant
-Kingsley makes an appearence with some bad news.

A Place to Hide
-Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave the Burrow, and run into Death Eaters
-Hermione gets hit on by drunkards
-They go to Grimmauld Place

Kreacher's Tale
-Harry finds a letter from his mother saying disturbing things about Dumbledore
-R.A.B. is Sirius's brother (everyone knew that, lol)
-lots of complex stuff on Horcruxes

The Bribe
-setting is Grimmauld Place
-Harry has sent Kreacher on an errand
-Kreacher seems to be getting friendlier
-Lupin is still acting off, and states something extremely surprising
-Trio find out who has the locket, and they are shocked.

Magic is Might
-Trio plan to get the locket from the ministry

The Muggle-born Registration Commission
-Umbridge
-persecution

The Thief
-Trio leave Grimmauld Place and Kreacher
-Trio stays in the woods.
-Harry sees through mind-link that Voldemort is not in the country, and is looking for a stolen object that has something to do with wands.

The Goblin's Revenge
-Ron does something weird.

Godric's Hollow
Bathilda's Secret
The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore
The Silver Doe
Xenophilius Lovegood
The Tale of the Three Brothers
-Trio goes to see Luna's dad
-He tells them a wizarding fairy story about three objects
-They are called the Deathly Hallows
The Deathly Hallows
-Harry follows lead of DH story instead of Horocrux stuff (WTF for me?)
-He becomes stupidly obsessed over it, kind of like how he was over Malfoy in HBP
-Makes a huge mistake and gets the trio "captured"
Malfoy Manor
-A couple of people have died, one important
-Someone else is being kept in the manor
-Someone else dies
-The trio is tortured for info
-Dobby helps them escape
-Another someone else dies
The Wandmaker
Shell Cottage
Gringotts
The Final Hiding Place
The Missing Mirror
The Lost Diadem
The Sacking of Severus Snape
The Battle of Hogwarts
The Elder Wand
The Prince's Tale
The Forest Again
King's Cross
The Flaw in the Plan
Epilogue

Wow. Just WOW!

Some of my predictions were spot on, more were way off. But WOW.

I re-read the last 3 chapter about 3 times. So well done. And I see now what JKR was referring to when she said in an interview that when she has been asked if she believes in God and has answered "yes," she has been glad no one has pressed her further because she thought that would give too much of the ending away.

That was good, but I thought this was even funnier:

I went back and checked, and apparently that statement was from an interview in 1999, before the publication of POA. The speculation I have seen is that she was referring to Voldemort's mother, Merope Gaunt. Alternatively, it is quite possible that that's a plot point she decided to drop later on.

I think she meant that Hagrid was the one who got the reprieve, and Tonks and Lupin were the ones whom she hadn't originally planned to kill. But as soon as they made Harry Teddy's godfather, things didn't look good.

Mrs Weasley cursing at Bella during their duel I thought was funny....kinda gave me an impression of (for those that remember) Ripley facing off with the alien in the mech suit.

cuteASAbug 07-23-2007 10:34 AM

I thought that it was a great book overall, althought I would've liked it if she said what happened to the Dursleys and to Hermione's parents at the end.
