I've been away for a few days, but time for me to catch up on all the Oscar talk:

I saw Crouching Tiger and thought it was pretty good, but I'm glad it didn't win Best Picture. All the critics and everyone have been talking about how it's one of the greatest movies ever, how it makes Citizen Kane look like a pile of dog crap, etc. Honestly, it was good, but WAY overrated.

I think Traffic deserved to win the big one, especially considering it won several other major awards. I have no problem with Gladiator winning though. Some people have likened it to Braveheart, which I predicted would at least be nominated for Best Picture when I first saw it 6 years ago. Gotta love those old-fashioned war epics.

Russell Crowe should have had a better sense of humor. True, Steve's zingers may have been a little rough, but who cares? You have to be able to take a joke, especially at awards shows when so many people are watching. I thought Russell was totally shocked when he won. He gave a good, fairly humble speech, so that was cool. At least he didn't pull a Marlon Brando or anything like that.

Julia Roberts...obviously it was no surprise that she won. I'm still waffling back and forth over how I felt about her speech. Part of me says "give her a break, she was so overjoyed that she won, she should be allowed to speak for as long as she wants, etc." Then part of me says she got up there with the attitude, "I'm Ms. Julia Freaking Roberts, and I'm going to stand up here and talk and you're going to listen to me whether you like it or not, because I'm Julia Roberts." That same part of me is also saying, "Hey Julia, the guy holding the stick is called a conductor, and the stick is called a baton, and he uses it to lead the orchestra."

And finally...Benicio Del Toro is a stud and has been since The Usual Suspects. I'm pumped that he won.

Alumnus, did you see Julia's post Oscar interview where she was totally humbled by realizing the "stick man" is Oscar winning composer Bill Conti?

I think she was overjoyed and nervous and probably had no idea how long she was up there. People who win Oscars have generally dreamed about it their whole lives. I know should I ever win my Oscar for screenwriting, I will be up there smiling my a$$ off and thanking everyone who's inspired me along the way too. LOL...Inside Edition said that he sat with Giorgio Armani and he helped design his own suit.

Good for him that he won the Oscar, but I think he should stick to acting.

Nope, I didn't see Julia's post-Oscar interview. I guess the whole "guy with the stick" thing is not really a big deal. Being up on that stage has to be nerve-wracking, and there have been plenty worse slip-ups during acceptance speeches. For example, Hilary Swank forgetting to mention her husband last year. Hopefully, we will never see another speech like Jonathan Demme's painfully long one when he won for Silence of the Lambs:

"...um, uh, uh, I would, uh, like to thank, uh, Jodie um Foster, and er, um, uh, Anthony, uh, Hopkins..." UGH!

Not that I'm a Oscar fashion expert (leave that to Joan Rivers and her coattail-riding daughter), but I thought it was cool how a lot of guys steered away from the tradtional tux this year. Soderbergh looked sharp in just a jacket and tie. Russell Crowe's "tie" was a little goofy though.

I was kinda disappointed...I mean, Gladiator was cool, but I don't think it was Oscar quality..and I definitely think that Almost Famous should have been nominated and that Cameron Crowe should have been nominated and won for director. Steve Martin was a good host, but besides that, I was definitely disappointed.
