Hi there,
I have am almost done my honours (doing it really really slowly now that i graduated with my B.A.) with a major in Criminology and a double minor in sociology and history. I have NO CLUE what I want to do with the degree. Maybe law. I might go into teaching. I'm one of those clueless graduates supposedly characterized by our generation http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Leslie |
Hey everyone!
I'm majoring in Sociology (loving every second of it!), with a possible minor in philosophy or dance. I think I'm going to be going to grad school as well, but that won't be for awhile, since I'm still only a sophomore! Whoa--all these sociology majors! I didn't know there were so many of us on this board. Hopefully you all will plan ahead better than I did.
Counting down...less than 3 months until I finish my M.B.A.! Finally a degree that I can do something with! |
In 2 months time I'll be holding that BA in my hand:
Major: History (US and European) Minor: Political Science (Canadian and European). |

Yeah i'll probably go into another field of education after i graduate. It just seemed that everyone I had class with didn't know what they would be doing after they graduated (even some honours students). A soc degree mixed with a business degree or something in computers could really be beneficial, get the best of both worlds. |
Graduating in May with a BA in Political Science... my minor is Sociology. I'm looking to be a counselor (caseworker) for the Department of Corrections... or I'll go back to be teacher certified.

Lil_G, I got a kick out of your comments, since I went through the same deal 5-6 years ago. I actually thought some of the classical stuff (Weber, Marx, Durkheim) was kind of interesting, if not terribly practical in the real world. I also took a criminology course my junior year, and was very disappointed. It sounded really cool when I signed up for it, but they somehow found a way to make it dull and boring by using lots of statistical crap.
And while I didn't end up flipping burgers after I graduated, I took an entry-level job with a bank (not much higher on the old totem pole). In fact, one time a manager at the bank where I worked asked me what I was doing working in a bank after I got a sociology degree, and I said, "It's either this or McDonald's." Maybe that wasn't the smartest thing to say. Things end up working out though. My advice is: you're still young, and you have plenty of time to decide what you really want to do, and go back to school for that. That's what I'm doing now by getting my MBA. |
