Threads are not GOING to stay on topic, and telling people to get back on topic is like telling a college freshman not to drink.

NO...it's called NALFO. A multicultural greek council is something on a local campus, not a national organization.

And this would be an example of what we're talking about. If you don't know for sure....you probably shouldn't post. And if you do, you should expect that people are going to call you out on inaccuracies (sometimes sarcastically).

And this, Alanis Morrisette, is irony.

NALFO is the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations. The umbrella organization for multicultral organizations (though not all multicultral GLOs are members) is indeed the National Multicultural Greek Council.

I am not going to get into a pissing match--the poster said Multicultural Greek Council, not NATIONAL. And when we're talking about the big four councils, I think many would think of NALFO before NMGC.

But NALFO isn't a council for multicultural orgs, it's a council for the Latino/a orgs. Not the same thing. So it really doesn't matter which someone thinks of first, only one of the two is a multicultural council ...

Can't take the sarcasm you predicted? ;)

As you note, the poster said "Multicultural Greek Council." It's not that far of a stretch to "National Multicultural Greek Council." Latino is a completely different direction though.

The real GC Rule of Thumb here is make yourself clear and make clear what you are responding to. Here's the exchange:

Apparently, you were really responding to DeltaBetaBaby's "and I think I am missing a 4th council," but since you just quoted notmanhattan's "Multicultural Greek Council," it looked like you were saying "No, it's not called the Multicultural Greek Council, because there is no such organization on a national level. The national organization is called NALFO." It read like you were the one mixing up NMGC and NALFO.

And sorry, but "the poster said Multicultural Greek Council, not NATIONAL" is what most people would call a lame distinction without a difference.

Sorry, but I just love pissing matches too much, and I don't like to loose them. :D

Profanity is OK, but sometimes it is too excessive!

I so want to reply to this as a smartass but I won't because I kind of have letters in my signature. It wouldn't be classy and we all know British chicks are classy!

You started the pissing match when you got pissy over nothing.

There's not a 4th big council. There are three major councils and then there are some of what would definitely be comparably minor councils, at least in terms of size/membership.

That they celebrate a different culture, thus are major is a bunch of hippie talk as far as I'm concerned :)

:) I wouldn't call that profane -- it was an attempt to get profane. A poor one, I might add. :p

Oh yes...another rule:

Use quotation marks (i.e. "profane") when your words aren't to be taken literally or you are lazily using a short cut to express something.

:p
