I swear your rant is about 10 years too late. I knew a clique of girls in a dorm calling themselves the Payne Hall Divas (PHDs) back in '95.

I've been ranting about this for almost 10 years. Too late to reach your school's clique. :(

I can understand that the Zetas being from an HBCU (think they were from Hampton), they may not have had much contact with Latino Greeks, but that's no reason to dog us, again I am surprised they would actually say that knowing this show is catered to h.s. and college aged crowds...wondering where their MISconceptions are coming from if Hampton doesn't have any Latin Orgs on campus

I thought True Life only followed three people, didn't they follow two Zetas, 1 Beta, and 1 Sigma?

Cosign!!!! I know a Sigma from school who crossed in '99 and still hangs out with the undergrads. Even though I didn't have the undergrad experience and hung out with some of them after I crossed, after a while you feel "old".

I missed most of it! I'm sure it's coming on again, so I'll watch for it.

The performances were too short to be amazed.

I was disappointed in the Zetas for all that trash talking after the decision. I know it was their opinion, but to call someone else's performance "basura" was really bitter. That probably gave someone a bad first impression of Zeta when they had a great chance to shine despite the loss.

Soror tld221, thanks for the insight. To sit through seven fraternities and then three sororities is a bit much, especially if there might have been a musical performance or an exhibition step.

Cosign again!!!! It will be back on some time Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday morning. The way the Zetas acted reminded me of the way the bruhs acted at StepNationals.

Having gone to the show, yes, you wouldve gotten a MUCH better feel of how each team stepped. from this show, it ALL seemed mediocre. if you ask me, they showed the "worst" of OPB's performance (the CD skipping, which no one in the crowd even noticed when i was there) and skipped a lot of the stuff that helped them win. on the other hand, the show aired only a clip of the Zeta's show, which, wasn't all that great to be a winning performance. they DID talk a lot of smack and continued to after they lost. its one thing to talk yourself up beforehand, but you really cant talk after you lose...

It was a long show, and i think the show hit a few points of "who cares?" 1. after OPB went (and apparent that they would win) 2. after one of the kappa teams went and dropped mad canes 3. after the alphas performed. it just felt like more and more people were inattentive to the performances (which is probably why the Sigmas that performed from Houston felt like the crowd wasnt hyped - wasnt them, it was just the show was LONG AS HAYLE).

I also thank you for your insight. I remember you saying that you did go to the show. When you have figured out when a team has won and/or a show gets too long, I can see how you can loose interest and not be as hyped.

Did someone "jump to" a misconception?

Tarzan06 02-19-2007 07:26 PM

Step Correct shows tend to be hella long.
Which is why I stopped going to them.
A show with 8 - 10 teams should not be nearly 3 hours...

but to answer someone else's question... The A-Team did take the trophy for the fraternities...

RedVelvet 02-19-2007 07:26 PM

Maybe stepping is a way for (some) Latino Greeks to honor their African ancestry.

Ummm, since when did we need a history lesson on stepping? I do believe that all Divine 9 are well educated in that area.

mind you each performance is at max 10 minutes long. then there was like a 5 minute break in between performances, and then like 10-15 minutes until the winners were announced.

start: 7:30pm
intro/local performance/crowd hype = 15 minutes (7:45)
so... 10 performances X 10 minutes a piece = 1 hr, 40 minutes
10 minute breaks in between performances = 50 minutes
by then, its like 10:15... and then they didnt annouce the winners til a while after that.

BUT like i said, when you already have a feeling who won and when its like a damn sauna (selling water for like $2 a bottle and no AC or fans) and its like a mosh pit on the dance floor... AND when ppl get there like 2 hours before it starts to get in...the audience gets tired and bored real fast. its unfortunate for the performers but it bees like that.

and on another note: what "misconceptions" are being jumped to?

Well they taped the show a while back but I heard about them acting as though they were blessing the crowd with their presence.

Now I understand why the influx on PP/KAZO.

I finally saw the whole thing last night. *Yawn*. So now that OPB has won, does this mean that they are step rulers of the world? Come on now. Personally, I'm done with stepshows in general for the same reasons already mentioned, the lack of stepping. Too much drama and production. I want. to. see. stepping. Not, pay $15 to see 3 frats maybe 2 sororites, half-assed thrown together routines and strolling in the aisles for 20 minutes. I want to see reps from all D-9 orgs, stepping, not dancing; uplifting and positive, not being sexually overt or disparaging the other D-9 orgs, especially in front of kids. Its that really too much to ask? Maybe OPB was a wake up call for d-9ers to get it together.

Are you sure you weren't at my Homecoming step show last week? :(
That's what I saw. And sadly I was a judge with not a lot to pick from.

I finally saw the ep as well and I didn't see what the big deal was about. I was real disappointed to hear some of the comments I heard about OPB winning the show, but that's just because hate ain't a good look on anybody.
I saw some hate on both sides which I thought was extra.

Overall I too was like, *Yawn*.....
