Welcome to greekchat noobishactz...post more often and you will have a fun stay.
In regards to Borat.... ....I actually thought the movie was pretty good. I wouldnt say it was brilliante, but it is definately one of the funniest movies I have EVER seen. I hate low brow humor (cant stomach Jackass) but for some reason it works in this movie. Whoever put it together was smart....and most of the funny parts were NOT shown in the commercials...there's NO WAY they could show that on TV. As for Psi Chi....that isnt the fraternity in question....its Chi Psi. I have met a few Chi Psis and they seemed like nice guys. The guys in Borat were tools...we'll leave it at that. I think the point of the movie wasnt to target Chi Psi more then it was to make all fraternity guys look bad. I wonder what their nationals will do. Quote:

Well yeah not all the funny parts were shown in the commercials. But they also did have a special on Comedy Central were they did show a lot. And some of the scenes were much more funny on Comedy Centrals Special that they did not show in the movie.
Sorry about getting the name mixed up. I am not saying that the fraternity is bad it is just a bunch a tools that make it bad for the rest. Just as some schools call my fraternity "Kappa Pigs" because of some tools that mess it up. At UHM we are the largest Fraternity and the only one that gets stuff done. Just as people label this one chapter as the whole fraternity because non-greek people do not understand what it is like being in a fraternity/sorority. This also does make the greek life as a whole look bad in some perspective. I am glad to read that Chi Psi's Nationals did not appreciate this and does acknowledge that these were just some guys not a representive of the fraternity. I dont remember them wearing letters either so the only way they were marked in the movie was by the Title stating where they were from. |

It looks like some of the guys are now suing. |
They were assured the movie wouldn't be shown in the U.S. and their identities wouldn't be revealed. They signed the release after heavy drinking. Then they were encouraged to continue drinking.
 If they were indeed misled, that would be typical of a prankster. Maybe the movie producers should've done what Girls Gone Wild does and allow people to call in the next day and refuse to be shown or whatever--or maybe not. They weren't too drunk to remember that they were told the movie wouldn't be released in the U.S and their identities wouldn't be revealed. So I imagine they weren't too drunk to watch their words altogether and/or decline any type of participation. |
I believe that the release specifically states that you are agreeing to the terms written on the release regardless of what ever else they tell you. The alcohol is another issue.
This article talks about suing Borat and shows the release. It's pretty airtight. Borat tricked me. Can I sue? |

As far as these guys from SC, they're idiots. I saw the movie last night and my friend and I were just embarassed by what these guys said/did. I know they are filing a lawsuit about how the producers made them drink, etc.. but that is still no excuse. |

Sidebar: Since you are an alum maybe you weren't present/know about the dirty hot tub that Phrozen's talking about. LOL. And why blast him for mentioning your probation when the only retort you have is that you were "made an example of...something about rootbeer" as if anyone else would know about that. Besides most chapters that get into trouble have an "explanation" behind it that may or may not be completely true. High GPAs and high donations don't fit into the point he was making--that some of you were dirty and got in trouble, which could shape some folks' perceptions of your fraternity. |
Here's what their nationals did... Took them a few days but better late than never...
http://www.chipsi.org/news/borat.shtml "The Fraternity takes this matter seriously and intends to address it through its established internal processes in conjunction with the University of South Carolina and the local chapter." |
I think signing a release form while under the influence (drunk, high) voids the contract. I remember hearing something about that for Girls Gone Wild and thats why they do the thing where you can call in the next day, because most these girls have been drinking heavily and GGW knows that the contract wouldn't hold up in court. Especially if they are underage.

These guys pretty much say it all...
These three idiots in Borat did a wonderful job of portraying the average frat boy. And now they wanna sue because the movie's making millions and they're portrayed as the male pigs that they are. These guys are the embodiment of the fraternity system-- bagging on minorities, bagging on women. Oh, that's right-- they were drunk, so its okay. It kind of strikes me as funny that these three big tough fraternity boys are now suing for emotional distress and whatever else they're calling it. Sexist racist losers with big mouths. Though, I'm sure they'll be embraced by the majority of the fraternity system as heroes. Always love to see a system such as this torn apart so we can see what's really inside.

Let's say you got wasted, and you spent $5000 on bottles of Cristal for all your friends. Do you think you could tell MasterCard the next day, "I was drunk when I signed the credit card receipt promising to pay; the contract is void"? You wouldn't get very far with that argument. It's not MasterCard's job to make sure that you're making a smart decision about whether to sign. Unless they secretly drugged you, or you're a minor, you have to pay. |

You obviously have little knowledge of anything fraternity if you think those douchebaggish fags are the embodiment of the fraternity system. Those guys are the laughing stock of the The South, without question. I wouldn't give those guys the time of day, nor would I let them step foot in my fraternity house. |
