I'm sure this comment will peeve everyone on Greek Chat, but oh heck, I'll say it anyway. Our founders were, for the most part, high-school aged girls (IE: 15-18). There has been gossip and mean girl mentality as long as there has been estrogen. I'm not really sure I care what a 15 year old of the 1800s would think of my comments on the internet. It's the same as people who take the term "living your ritual" too seriously. It's a sorority/fraternity.... not a religion. People need to learn to take things said in the internet world of make believe with a grain of salt.

ETA: Can everyone please stop taking EVERYTHING so darn seriously?

ETA: I'm sure our founders would be shocked and horrified to know that nowadays we wear pants, too. A woman wearing pants?! Oh TEH HORROR!!!!!!111!1!!!

I turned 19 in the fall of my freshmen year:confused:

It appears that the comment was not made by a GLO member...so let's not take things so personally, ok?

kstar - My borther-in-law went to Norman North the year it opened. My husband went to Norman High. They might know your dad:) They also both went to OU for undergrad and grad school. I went there only for grad school.

I wouldn't have pledged her until her dad agreed to start singing country.

If it's the "University of Oklahoma," why is it referred to as "OU?" Why not "UO?"

/confusion

For the same reason people don't call it "OK University"

It just is.

Actually, in our fight song, we do refer to it as OKU.

But yeah, it just is OU. UO just sounds silly.

That's definitely what it sounds like... although the way you stated it is a teensy bit more tactful than "she's white trash with money" :)

Even in a hypothetical world if she was snobby or whatever, I don't think that gives anyone the right to say "let's not accept her, she's just white trash with money."

I actually saw the Toby Keith interview (happened on some late night show last week) where he went into the story of how his album got it's name. Apparently the mother was appalled that he actually named his album that, but like he said "I know an album name when I see one!"

I wonder why the daughter was released by every chapter. Perhaps there is more to the story than reported.

And I was 16 in my freshman year. I still knew that calling anyone "white trash" was rude!

After reading the articles, it made me wonder what the deal was.

In the actual interview last week, and on the first article posted, it sounded like she was just trying to get into one house. The second article however said she "got turned down by every sorority she pledged".. I thought you needed a BID to pledge, but that's another story.

That second one made it sound like she tried several houses (in a more sorority Formal Recruitment kind of way)

You know it's sad when I'm the one making your statement more tactful.

I'm not a sugar-coat it kind of person.

He probably didn't know the terminology.

If, in fact, she did/does go to OU as suspected, it's a very competitive rush. It isn't common really, but there usually is a whole page or so of girls on the list that got cut from every chapter.

However, she might have gotten cut from the chapters she wanted, and dropped out of rush instead.

Plus, she's kinda rude.
