IIRC I answered this, in part, before.

I entered the news group looking for something else, different topic.

Saw something else, something caught me eye...the rest is all here....I did not just click on something just to criticize it..........

But, is there anything wrong with criticizing what media choises to cover and how....and wondering how and why others wish to follow it.....but thats what pays the bills at several media companies.....

But that's one reason I said that the "spirit of the day" might counsel against suggesting that the thread was inappropriate under the circumstances. (For some, it might counsel against reading the thread altogether.)

But I know where Jon was coming from, and I know where those who criticized him were coming from. As foreign as it is to the culture of GC at times, there really are times we all just need to cut each other some slack.

Again-very well said and put.

Big difference between commenting on the News Media and what it reports and saying it's "sad" that this thread started at 9:01 on 9/11. That implies that you find the thread distasteful, not the news coverage.

Quite frankly, since Fox News plays in our bank lobby all day, I'm glad for both the employees and customers sakes that it isn't 9/11 coverage all the time all day long. Covering it on TV is just as big of a beg for ratings as mentioning the death of Daniel. Thus I do not find it sad that a) anything besides 9/11 is reported on, even mostly trivial things or b) that we are discussing it (even though we're not, we're discussing what we should be discussing)

That is sad; no parent would want to outlive their child(ren).

Last spring my 18 year old niece died as a result of injuries she got in a car wreck. I couldn't bear to look at my sister and brother-in-law. They've become different people, and even months later I don't think they've fully accepted it.

So regardless of whether or not you agree with this type of journalism, I think everyone just needs to chill out and leave snippy comments aside. A parent lost her child. Can't you guys be critical elsewhere? Geez.

*Le sigh*

I'm really sorry for Anna Nicole's loss. As was stated...losing a child must be a pain that's nearly too great to bear. I can't imagine.

Looks like the news just gets worse.

Sources say he died at mom's bedside.

Millions die every day. If I had to rank this dude's death on a list of important deaths, I'd place it at the bottom. And it wasn't listed on any news outlet I saw today (and if it was it was a joke) because nobody cares about her F list celeb status or her son.

Reuters has it all the way at the bottom of its news stories. Below the "Oddly enough" section which always features bizarre stories about someone winning an air guitar championship. NY Times not at all. Fox News has a tiny link to it next to a link for the Gaming Granny - a grandmother that wins a lot of video game awards evidently. MSN has it right below an article entitled "Should Britney ditch K-Fed" and "Wal-mart models on the catwalk". ABC has it next to an article entitled "Bathhouses - The New Old Sex Clubs" and a poll asking people about the meanest things they've ever done.

Hell, it's even on the foxnews.com homepage.

Fox News, CNN, ABC, MSN, Reuters, etc. all have it mentioned on their homepages.

I think it's also novel news because she just gave birth, then loses her other child so soon after.

SoCalGirl 09-11-2006 09:33 PM

This is very sad. Lord knows Anna Nicole is hardly stable so I'm sure the repercussions could be even worse than when a normal person loses a child.

Are we certain this is totally real? I thought the kid was at most 17...I was shocked to read he was 20. It's very bizarre circumstances too.

There's a point where sensativity goes overboard.

Plus, if we DO stop the world every 9/11, then we've given the terrorists exactly what they wanted.

Agreed.......

I wonder if he died of a brain aneurysim or something out of the ordinary like that? It seems like he died just out of the blue, and he was a young man.

On the Today Show this morning, they made mention of hospital speculation that he had a heart attack.

DSTCHAOS 09-12-2006 03:51 PM

The circumstances are what makes this heartbreaking. Not just that a "celebrity's" son has died.
