He feels the lead will look better on his resume. The question is whether the people here will make their decision in time for him. He has worked in children's theatre (non Equity) at this theatre before in a show that was actually written for him, so they are somewhat familiar with him. By the way, the local show is Thouroughly Modern Millie. He can't string the cruise line along forever, though -- it's not fair to them and he certainly doesn't want to burn any bridges. If they want to cast him in the chorous in Millie, he'll go with the "boat people" as I call them. In the mean time, he's still auditioning. ETA He called just as I was posting. Another call back for Millie this morning with the group down to about six. He doesn't think they're considering him for the main lead (Jimmy, I think), but perhaps still a secondary lead. He did the show in the Chorus in summer stock last year. They don't think they'll have a decision until early next week. He's not sure when he will need to give a go/no go to the cruise line. The tension mounts. By the way, the ship they want him for has some great Carribean trips, a couple of Florida to San Diego trips through the Canal and some Vancouver to Alaska cruises, so that would be a lot of fun, too. |
I didn't really think there was many/any secondaries in Millie - just Jimmy & Trevor & the chorus...well, except the two Japanese guys that go around abducting the girls....

Latest is that he accepted a part (chorus) in Millie -- which makes Mrs. DA very happy since he'll be home for Christmas.
The Millie job pays more than the cruise line, but is for a shorter time. He hopes the cruise line can put him on a later schedule/boat. |

Congrats to him (and to his parents)! All experience is good, and I hope this works out well for him.

And DA, I'm tellin' ya, the cruise ships are auditioning every other week here. He can easily get another one if he needs it after Millie. |
Congrats to your son :)
I'm glad he will be home for Christmas with the family! |
This just in. The cruise line offered him a job that starts after Millie, on a bigger ship and as the lead male singer instead of backup singer/dancer.
They were impressed when he called back to ask them to keep him in mind and said they, "didn't want to lose him." Bright kid. Lucky star. |
Awesome! Congrats to him!
I'd love to be able ot work on a cruise ship for 6 months to a year.... |

We are proud of him. One of the young women (and her husband) who performed in HS with our oldest daughter is making a reasonable living doing cruises. Another woman (former Miss Teen Colorado) from her class did Disney cruises and then several Disney theme parks and is now doing well in New York. I think the son is doing very well considering that he just graduated from college. Great kid. Again, thanks for all of the good thoughts and wishes -- they're really appreciated. |
Sounds like he's off to a great start, especially considering the odds. Congrats!

That's great news! I hope he will eventually get to do another show here in my area.
