I'm having another ultrasound tomorrow. My family doctor said sometimes they don't get all of the gallbladder out. If this is true and what's happening in my case, I'm going to be LIVID if I have to pay for another surgery. Could this be considered malpractice?

Umm yeah!!! That would be insane. Why should you pay for another procedure rather than requesting that the first one be completed properly?

Ask your doctor about Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. I had had my GB out and ended up with this condition. Basically there is a buildup of pressure on either or both of the ducts from the pancreas and liver. The procedure is done endoscopically (through the mouth) and the surgeon measures the valve pressure and would make an incision on either side, to release the pressure.

Also ask about Pancreatitis. I also ended up with this in addition to SOD.

Best of luck!

I was reading up on SOD. I had my ultrasound this morning. Pressure is mainly what I feel, not so much a sharp pain. She went over a few places over and over again. I can usually peak at the monitor and see what's up but I couldn't see it this time. I used to work at this place so hopefully my old boss gets to it soon. I hate the waiting game.

The likelihood that you have residual gallbladder tissue is next to nil. After years of reading gallbladder US and two years of performing laparoscopic cholecystectomies, the only reason residual gallbladder is left behind is if it is too necrotic to be fully resected. In that case, you surgeon would have informed you that he/she was not able to resect the entire GB. As far as SOD, that could be an option, but another possibility is that the pain patients report before surgery is not actually due to the gallbladder (even when there is clear cut signs of disease) so it doesn't go away after removing the gallbladder. Unfortunately, abdominal pain does NOT always have an easily identifiable cause.
