There are very few basements in OK. The reason is that the bedrock is below an average of almost 20 feet of thick clay. People die mostly in tornados when they are crushed by their house. People who get picked up in tornados usually have anything from broken bones to severe injuries, but they usually live.
Besides, being inside doesn't guarantee that you won't be picked up. People in Chickasas in the May 1999 tornados got picked up with their house (not a trailer home.)
