Yes, AOII is colonizing at the University of Arkansas this fall.

The Delta Zeta Chapter at HSU closed in Fall 2003 (late October I think).

The Phi Mu chapter at Tech has closed within the last 5-6 years I believe. Seems like it was still open when I lived in AR (I moved in 2004).

When did the Tri Delta chapter close at UALR????? I didn't know that. It was open in 2004 when I left.

Where did you go to school? I was a Reddie at HSU, and then got my Master's at UCA.

It's kinda wierd to see that so few schools in AR have NPC and IFC groups. For some reason, I thought there were more, but I couldn't name them for you (outside of HBCUs).

I got my BA from Arkansas State University. Go Tribe! I listed Delta Zeta at HSU because their Greek Life website still had it listed. I guess I tapped into an old site. Tri Delt at UALR closed at the end of the 2004-2005 school year.

Absolutely nothing against DG and Gamma Phis, but I was surprised that AST and ZTA weren't selected. You would think that since AST already has 3 chapters in the state and ZTA has 2, UAFS would want groups that have some chapters close by to assist the new chapters.

LaneSig, You made a great point in that GLOs may try to Colonize where there is activity by them in closer areas.

Many GLOs still have the idea that they Have To Be at Large Named Schools too.

I know that LXA did return to Un Ark last year.

Say for instance at My Chapter, there are many Chapters with in 2-2 1/2 hour drives. That does help in relationships with each other. "Road Trips":D Ks., Mo., Ok., and Ark.

Point of information...the "Alpha" (read: first) Chapter of Chi Omega at Univ. of Arkansas is the Psi Chapter. We are very proud of our association with this campus. I made the pilgrimage to the "Motherland" in 1995 and loved every minute of my visit.

Thanks! I remembered that the UA chapter isn't "Alpha" after I made the list, but forgot to go back and change it. What is the story behind the first chapter being named "Psi"?

PS - The Chi O's at Arkansas State rock! I hung out with a couple of the sisters. Very nice, down to earth, and funny.

"Gamma Phi Beta has accepted an invitation to colonize at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith in early 2007. We will be creating a brand new Greek system along with Delta Gamma and two fraternities: Sigma Nu and Kappa Alpha Order."

Yea for us! And yea for UAFS for getting a greek community!

Well, when naming chapters they began at the end of the Greek alphabet -- Omega was reserved for deceased Sisters and Psi became the first chapter. We went through the single letter chapters (Alpha is Univ. of Washington a.k.a. U Dub!) and then we started over with Psi Alpha, Chi Alpha, etc. -- More than you wanted to know?!!!

Congratulations to Kappa Alpha Order and Sigma Nu on their upcoming colonies at UAFS. I hope everything goes successfully for them.

Do you know that AST and ZTA weren't selected or are you speculating? It could be that they withdrew themselves. Sometimes groups do that if they don't have a good feel or think they aren't the right fit.

I was actually really surprised to see that ZBT has three chapters in Arkansas - they're not considered a particularly southern group.

According to their website, the ZBT chapters were all founded after 1999. ZBT has made a concentrated effort in expansion in the past 10 years.

As for AST and ZTA - my comments about their not being invited to colonize are pure speculation on my part. I certainly did not mean to imply that UAFS found them lacking or secondary. I have great respect for both and great love for Zeta in particular (I was selected as a Zeta Beau in college). I don't know the reasons why they either were not selected or did not choose to colonize. I only wanted to bring up the point that I was surprised that these two organizations, that already have chapters and presumably many alumnae in the state, were not colonizing.

Again, my wish is for a successful colonization for Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Alpha, and Sigma Nu. It is an exciting event for all 4 organizations, the new UAFS Greek Life, and all Arkansas Greeks.

The Lambda Chi house is next door to Sigma Chi house at ASU. I had several friends who were Lambda Chis at ASU. We got along okay with them when I was there. Now there is a big rivalry between the houses. Just as long as you and I get along, everything is okay by me. :D
