I dont cuss around my parents, the worst i'll say is "shit" and my mom will still get mad if i say it.

But I started using profane language around 4th or 5th grade. That is when I really learned those words, so I would say them in every sentence. I remember one day walking from my classroom to the blacktop/basketball courts, and i was soo mad that everyword out my mouth was a curse word. I was constantly "F-- this sh---. These d@mn m---- f----- are p-ssing me the f--- off"

Ahh...good times! lol. I stopped using real profane words when i was a junior or senior in high school. Now it just feels real wierd to use the f- word...but i do when i'm extremely angry.

I saw someone flip the bird when I was little so I asked my mom what it meant. She told me not to do it.

I learned all the curse words and about sex in the playground like any true New Yorker. I started cursing a lot when I was in 7th grade. My sister started when she was 2 or 3. "Oh, you're so cute!" "F@ck you!"

My Mother tells me that my very first understandable words were "Damn it"! She says that when she told my Dad he beamed with pride and said, "That's my boy"! They both got a case of the grins over it and for years it was a standard comment around the family to say "What do you expect from a boy who cussed before he could stand up"! I think this actually got me out of some trouble from time to time as my behaviour, such as it was, seemed to be excused by this. I am told that this tends to run in the family as both my Dad and my cousin Chip are reputed to have said something similar as their first utterances. Grand dad's comment was that it just went to show that we were all ideally suited to be Army officers and then Lawyers. Ah well, c'est la merde!

As did I. My parents used to curse a lot, often in many different languages. They were pretty open about cursing (think the Osbournes) and figured that there were worse things I could do...saying 'fuck' and 'shit' wasn't that bad.

Of course this was only limited to our house. My mom made me promise that I was never to be that way outside the house.

Oh yeah, and I did manage to make it through 13 years of Catholic school.

I'm really surprised by this little "poll"! Granted, my family is pretty straight, but I think damn, hell, and the occasional shit were permitted in my house. My daddy was forever saying, "You do not say (whatever) in front of your mother!" as if she never heard it. But, bless his heart, he did have her on a major pedestal!




Do they make guys like that anymore?

Gosh, I wasn't even allowed to say "Shut up" growing up. Heck, I thought that "screw" was a bad word for the longest time. The only time we heard curse words growing up was coming from my mother during UK basketball games.

To this day, I'm not much of one to swear a lot. Get a few drinks in me though, and I'll let a few "shit's" and "damn's" slip.

I'm surprised about this poll too. I cursed every know and then since I was a little kid, but I didn't make a habit of it until I started high school. I went to a really strict K-8 school, we weren't allowed to say a lot of things. I once got into major trouble for just saying "that sucks!", we weren't allowed to say "shut up" either. And, around my family I still don't curse, unless on accident, they never did put up with it!

Okay, true confessions time... I was in 10th grade before I knew that "fuNk" wasn't the bad word!

I'm embarrassed that it has always be a part of my vocabulary (thank you, mom....), and I wish that I could stop!!! Working in advertising certainly doesn't help my potty mouth!

My mom loves the story about me being 15 months old and her sitting in the kitchen with one of her friends. She tells me I walked into the kitchen, threw down my toy and said "oh shit" and walked out... my mom was just proud that she taught me how to use it properly, gestures and all.

My mom still tells the story about the time when, at age 5, she said, "Oh my goodness," in front of her grandmother. Her very religious Christian grandmother promptly washed her mouth out with soap. According to her, it was wrong to say "my goodness" because "all goodness comes from God."

I wonder what she would have made of her great-granddaughter, the Jew... :p
