I've learned that too much alcohol *CAN* be bad for you.

God forbid someone else ends up with Tom Earp Syndrome.

I've learned that threads like these usually don't last too long. On a more positive note, I've also learned that there are people on all sides of the political spectrum who are capable of mature debate. For every person who just goes extreme for no reason, there are posters like Munchkin03, GeekyPenguin and others who I may not agree with, but who I have to respect for being thoughtful on topics.

well, i'd say there are a number of intelligent posters on this site. then a few here and there who bring the general IQ level down with innate stupidity.

LOL...your sarcasm knows no bounds. You wanna be black, apparently.

Her statement is ironic seeing as though PM Mama claims to want mature discussions on race.

Wasn't tryin gto be witty. Never said you were white.

My point is that I've never seen a non African American so incredibly passionate as you. Nothing wrong with that until you start making immature comments to ruin a good discussion.

And I never said that I'm mature when it comes to those issues.... or any issues. I like reading mature discussions and learning about things without osmeone jumping in and constantly calling people out as racist.

That's another thing I learned. Every white person on GC is racist apparently.

BTW... I also learned a helluva lot more about African American... cultures I guess you could say.... from Libra (where has she been?) because even though she got frustrated with my sheltered attitude, she still explained things in a way that wasnt "you're a biggot. you're racist. you're ignorant". She didn't throw around the word ignorant. If you want people to become educated and get your point across, don't offend them. Try to explain things to them, and if they still don't get it, explain it again. And if they still don't get it and make racial comments, then go off on them. Don't start calling someone ignorant the first minute they say something or make a mistake. Remember that some of us didn't grow up in diverse neighborhoods/cultures/societies.

i know there are typos in here. i'm tired. i don't care. my apologies.

This is the best post yet :D

I've learned that apparently the words "Under God" have ALWAYS been in the pledge and our country will go to hell if they are taken out.

I've learned that many people have the common sense of an ant

i'm passionate, so that makes me want to be black??

hmmm.....uhhh....what are you talking about??

the bastion of clear thinking strikes again.

i do find it funny that people on gc use sheltered upbringings to excuse ignorance. it's almost 2006, use common sense.

because you know, racism and bigotry are strictly a black/white issue.

i guess asians really aren't supposed to comment.

"perpetual foreigner syndrome" strikes again.

It's not using it as an excuse. Do you really expect someone who grew up in a mostly white neighborhood (with very very few Asian/Indians/Arabs/African Americans) to know everything there it to know?

I think that you have grown a lot in the past three years or so that I've been reading your posts. I think it is commendable that you are trying to open yourself up to new information and a new perspective.

I grew up in a pretty diverse city and neighborhood and majored in political science so I am/was probably more exposed to these issues than you, but you're trying. I think that is a step in the right direction.

Read Andrew Hacker's Two Nations if you want to learn a little more.

yes it is. especially considering that many white people want to look at how things are great for minorities now. it's 2006, but it's also proof positive that race relations in america have quite a bit to go.

but i'm still wanting to see where i'm wanting to be black. i'm perplexed.
