Lindz, I wondered when you were going to post.
From Wikipedia: Hogwarts appears to be the only school of magical arts in Britain... Hogsmeade, Scotland, UK: Hogsmeade is the only pure wizarding settlement in the United Kingdom and is located south of Hogwarts... One source, though said Hogwarts was in Scotland. Too many conflicts - if Hogsmeade is in Scotland, how do they jump from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade (magic??)? Also, the Shrieking Shack is in Britain... Anyway, question: What nickname does Ginny call Fleur behind her back? *snickers* |
Ginny calls Fleur "Phlem."
I always thought the whole school was in Scotland. The kids travel HELLA far on that train from Platform 9 3/4. But hey... maybe it was just the movie. Anyhoo... What is Ginny's full name and when is her birthday? (requires research and hint: she's one day older than I am.) :D |
Ginevra Molly Weasley
DOB August 11, 1981 What was Dean Thomas name in the original manuscript of Sorcerer's Stone? This requires some research. |

How can one tell? -- In Chamber of Secrets, when Harry and Ron follow the Hogwarts express in the Ford Anglia, we are told the train is going due north. We also know that the train leaves at 11:00 a.m. and doesn't arrive at Hogsmeade station until after dark, which in that part of the world in September would probably mean at least 8:00. A nine hour train ride from London going anywhere but up into Scotland would end up in water. -- Also in Chamber of Secrets, when Snape reads the Evening Prophet to Harry and Ron, telling him how they were seen flying the car, one of the witnesses reported in the paper is in Peebles, which is just south of Edinburgh. -- These facts tell us that Hogwarts and Hogsmeade are in Scotland. JKR has confirmed that Hogwarts is in Scotland (where she lives). As for where in Scotland, there are mentions of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade being in a valley, as well as references to mountains around the castle -- at least one can seen from the window in the Headmaster/mistress's office. And, of course, Snuffles was hiding up in the hills in Goblet of Fire. This, coupled with the fact that one doesn't have to go too far north of Edinburgh to hit the Highlands, and one would stay in the Highlands unless one sticks to the east coast, allows us to place Hogwarts and Hogsmeade in the Scottish Highlands. (I have heard some speculation that Hogwarts is pretty much north of Edinburgh and west of Aberdeen, but I don't think the books allow us to be that specific. And Scotland is part of Britain, Tickled Pink. Britain, or Great Britain, is an island consisting of three countries: England, Scotland and Wales. London is the capital of England and of the UK, while Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and Cardiff is the capital of Wales. Together, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Sometimes Great Britain and United Kingdom are used synonomously. |

MysticCat, You never cease to amaze me with your HP knowledge. :D Quote:
What fruit has to be tickled to get into the kitchens at Hogwarts? |
Quote:
The pear! :D Here's an easy one. Besides Hogwarts, what are the names of the 2 other wizarding schools in Europe. For a bonus, what is the approximate country in which they are located? |
Beauxbatons is in France
and Durmstrang, I forget where but I wanna say Romania because that's where Victor Krum is from what object can be used as a counter to almost any spell? |

The best that can be deduced is Eastern Europe. The name definitely has German overtones -- Sturm und Drang -- and we know that it's somewhere very cold with short winter days. Northwest Russia, Bulgaria or Romania, perhaps? Can't really pin it down, though. |
ok I may have to get in on this action...sometime soon....

^^^^I'll ask a question.
What does the Scourgify spell do and who first uses it, and how? |
Quote:
"Scourgify!" cleans something up -- the first time we hear the spell used is when Tonks cleans Hedwig's cage early in Order of the Phoenix. But is it the same spell as the "Scouring Spell" that Hermione teaches to Neville (but for which we don't "hear" the spell itself) to clean frog guts from under his fingernails in Goblet of Fire? Maybe, but not sure. Easy one: What school did Uncle Vernon tell Aunt Marge that Harry was attending? |
School for Misfits....But I can't remember the entire name. Darn it!
What is Harry's Patronus? Why is it important to him? |
A stag because that's the shape his father would take on when he was an animatogus.
What was Harry's mother's Maiden Name? |
Evans
What is Hermione's patronus? |
