I'm unemployed too. I got caught in downsizing....and it was handled very badly. Unfortunately for me, of course. I only got one day of vacation paid...no severance.

Now I'm looking for a job, any job.....retail is even hard right now....

Don't worry, something will come along!

I have a 2nd interview in New York on the 30th with the Regional Manager and the Regional VP! :)

I got hired by the East-West Center last week and today was my first day on the job. Pretty sweet considering it was only a one day work week! Back to my old University stomping grounds for me! For those who don't know what the EWC is, it's a federally funded program started in the 1950s to promote and foster American relations with Asian and Pacific nations. It's located at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, but it's totally independent from the State of Hawaii.

My official title is Fellows Research Specialist. I'll be assisting a number of Asian-Pacific scholars. It's a temporary position that can range anywhere between 3 to 6 months, depending on the progress of the scholars. The pay is surprisingly excellent (way better than they who fly the "Friendly" Skies.... aaaaand I get benefits and a cost of living allowance since it's a federally funded program.

And oh yeah, I get to play online because I work independently. Saweet.

In the meantime, I'm still looking for a more permanent position elsewhere, but this sure beats not doing shit, right?

Thanks. It's a Station Manager position for Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group at the Cleveland Airport. Company car, free gas, all the good stuff. :)

Does being a flight attendant pay well? I just realized I have no idea what they'd make. I don't even think I could get within $15k.

I found out yesterday that probation officers start at $29k in Virginia. That surprised me too. Not that that little piece of info will help anyone here.

AOX81 - why'd you leave without setting up another job first? And congrats on the new one!

I take that back. I'm going to guess $35k (to start). Am I within $15k?

For a flight attendant? Nope! You can make better money at the big airlines, but those are REALLY difficult to get into because of all those that were furloughed (they get called back first if there are openings.). Regional airlines start between $15,000 and $18,000 your first year and you are usually on call most of that time rather than having a set schedule (can work out that you'll get some sweet trips but you can also sit around glued to your phone and not being able to do much because you might get called into work!)

To end on a positive note, it was a great experience, worked with some great people (and some not so great people as well), been to places I have never been before (and some I don't want to go back to), etc. I left because of the schedule and I was not able to live in my house more than 5 days a month on average (I didn't work in the same state that I own my house).

I quit because my District Manager completely pissed me off. I thought at the time I had something lined up but it didn't end up working out. I'm much better off where I'm at now!! :)
