Even my wanna-be sisters have more sense then that.

You know what? That MUST be it! Please. Give me a break. That is not the reason. If any of you paid any attention to the first time I questioned this (and was accused of making the whole thing up) is because my younger sister who is in college pledged a ghost group not knowing it was a ghost group because they said they were nationally recognized and they were not. Once she realized what had happened she dropped out of their pretend sorority. That is why I am bothered by it, I have personal experience with it.

How do we know you hve a sister?? We need proof! Send us a link showing us that you have a sister. I think your sister is pretend.

33girl 09-29-2005 02:44 PM

I think she is too, as this is the first I've EVER seen her post about it.

My original question was- what do you do about it? What does your school do about it?
Maybe she is asking because she wants to join one, and wants to know if she can get into any trouble.

Amalia,

I sincerely hope your sister learned from her experience, and was able to move on and hopefully join a sorority with a national affiliation, and not a fraud. Yes, there are disgraced local groups running around on many campuses pretending to still be affiliated with their national orgs. Personally, I could give a damn what they do, even if they are pretending to be my brother. However, PNM's and rushees need to do their homework carefully and figure out which houses and legit, and which are a sham. I recommend going trough formal, school sponsored rush, instead of venturing out on your own.

On a personal note, you seem awfully bothered by what a bunch of complete strangers posting on this board think of you... are the posters here really your friends? Do you really care how they feel? I would highly recommend you search elsewhere for personal validation... GC ain't the place for that.

Peace,

M.

Hi, that doesn't make sense. Are you saying that someone who was in college wasn't capable of figuring out that an organization was a "ghost group" as you call it?

This does sort of remind me of someone else who posted about her little sister's pretend rush experience. You know, you could always encourage her to get involved with Dance Marathon if the whole Greek thing didn't work out for her.

Yes, Amalia we ARE bothered that there are people who may be still operating under our orgs' names, colors, etc, but you know, aside from notifying our repective HQ's and making sure the university is aware of them and notifies the students of the status of these orgs-there's not a whole lot we CAN do. It's not that we don't care, it's just not in our hands.

Good laughs on the thread after a long day at work. :)

Amalia, you really need to let this whole "ghost" thing go and accept the fact that some people are going to do things that you don't like. You just have to accept it and move on to other things (like maybe a real life?)

kddani 09-29-2005 04:20 PM

Amalia17, in what post did you say your sister pledged one of these groups?

I'm calling BS because either me or Sheila would've remembered it.

GET A LIFE!

Not related to this issue at all....but it seems to me a lot of you are pretty judgemental of someone for not having a life when it looks like a lot of you probably spend way too much time on an internet message board making people feel bad about themselves. Just a thought.

APB -

The OP has said some really mean things in the past and has been nothing but critical of her school's Greek system - which she apparently wanted to be a part of, since she rushed. She's gone back and deleted the majority of her posts when it was pointed out how she was coming across.

This isn't unprovoked, believe me.

She wants us to get as upset about something as she is, and even when we've told her that yes it is a problem and yes it should be stopped, that isn't enough. I apparently am supposed to drive up the interstate and go all Kill Bill on a bunch of girls I have no idea how to find, and if I don't, I'm not protecting my sorority's honor.

We're not being unecessarily mean, we are just fed up with someone who can't say anything nice about her school or its Greek members.

Nicolle, this particular poster has a history, most of it deleted now,of causing trouble and posting dubious things. She gets found out, then goes away and comes back months later for more of the same. Eventually it gets ridiculous and boring.

I still don't get why 4 separate threads needed to be created about underground chapters. By the same person. Sounds an awfully lot like a vendetta.

Let the university and IHQ's handle it....it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
