Ya'll are bringing back memories up in here:

When I live in WV I used to try and be like my parents(when they used to smoke). I would go to the corner store and buy those candy cigarettes, and then they had some cigarettes that were made out of bubble gum that when you blew on them smoke/powder came out of the other end.

I also used to love them Ring-Pops, and Airheads (especially the white kind, or the mystery flavor)

Anyone remember those candy dots that came on white paper, in the packs. I can't remember the name but I aint them things up all the time.

I like the foot long pixie stick, and the foot long popsicyle on a hot summer day:D

I really like that monster ice cream sandwich that would run halfway down your arm before you could finish it.

I used to love that bubble gum that was made to look like Baseball chewing tobacco, and bubble tape.

I used to love to go get me a little Pez dispenser, and get the refills for it.

I've just discovered that there is still a corner store in my neighborhood. They sell all the good stuff, plus barbq, okra, fish dinners, etc. My husband has known about it for months and just decided to tell me after I mentioned that some of the candies on this thread.

TonyB - There's no Skyline Chili where you are? I thought it was a chain restaurant. Aren't you still in Ohio?

Those popsicles that are really some juice in the plastic, but when you freeze them the're popsicles and you have to keep pushing it up to eat it (hahahahahahahahahahaha)!

^^^
My corner store had the real big ones and they used to cut the heck out of the insides of your mouth!

Jolly rancher candy sticks
The big lemon heads that came one to a package
fruities
Jo Jo with lots of hot sauce
those little bags chips that were a quarter( Doritos, Funions, Lays etc...)
Orange shebert push up pops
Jingles( they were a smaller version of a Now N later)

We also used to buy packs of Kool Aid, mix it with sugar and put it in a sandwich bag and eat it.:o

No need to be embarrased, who hasn't done that mess? One thing I remember the most were the stains.

1. Sprinkle/pour in your hand
2. Lick hand
3. Wipe hand on clothes
4. Carry on

Get home and get the bi'ness for messing up my clothes.

You know!!

We always got in trouble at school for having it because the teacher would see our stained hands and mouths!

Okay,

Does anybody remember the generic slushes( Slush Puppy) at the cornerstore?
You would take two drinks from it and there would be
nothing but crushed ice left!

Everyone in my neighborhood would go to one 3 corner stores:

Stoll's Little Giant (corner of Princeton and Broad St.) where you could actually buy groceries on credit--anybody here go to one of those type of stores.

Van's Carryout (corner of Princeton and Town St.)

Yale and Town Carryout--my mother would play the lottery there.

Anyway, I would buy any Ferrara Pan candies:

Lemonheads
Cherry Chan
Cherry Clan
Johnny Apple Treats
Alexander the Grape
Boston Baked Beans
Mr. Melon

10 cents a box. You can't beat it.

I would also buy those (then 25 cents) Little Debbie singles.
Oatmeal Creme Pies
Zebra Cakes
Pecan Spinwheels
Fudge Swirls

Oh, and my all time favorite Hostess snack cakes (no longer made):

Chip Flips (c.1984)--two chocolate chip snack cakes with vanilla creme in the middle. Cost 43 cents. I would save up my pennies, nickels, and dimes to buy one, and it was heaven to eat.

Hostess Lights (c. 1990)--there were 3-4 products, but my favorite was an apple spice cup cake with real apple cinnamon filling in the middle. Dee-lee-i-o-shus!

Bring back the 80s just for old times sake. Please!

OMG! You did that too! I loved a big dill pickle with a peppermint stick in the middle.

People in Georgia act like they never heard of that. I thought it was just a Tennessee thing.

I loved lemon heads, penny candy (big bol gum & fruities) & Jungle Juice!!!!!!

OMG, ya'll have really brought it back!! My corner store was Jones Store! He had everything!! He had:

Now and Laters: 1 pack for 15 cents, 2 for a quarter, the super packs for 35 cents

Lemonheads, Cherry Chan, Boston Baked Beans, Alexander The Grape: all 10 cents a box, and the boxes made great ghetto kazoos once you ate all the candy. We used to rankle grandmama's nerves blowing those boxes!

The big pickles: 50 cents
Peppermint sticks: 5 cents
Honey Buns, Little Debbie cakes, etc: 25 cents
Pops: 35 cents a can

Mr. Jones also sold meat, school supplies, stamps, loose cigarettes, pantyhose, toys, books and magazines (that's how I got hooked on 18 Pine Street books and Black Confessions magazines) and just about anything you could think of.

For a little while his penny candy was 5 cents until this other corner store opened right across the street called Mom's Place and her penny candy (Jingles, Frooties, etc) was actually a penny and so all the neighborhood kids flocked there. Then Mr. Jones started having take-out dinners and lowered the prices on his candy and poor Mom had to close up shop.

Later on, Mr. Jones' daughter got married and had a HUGE fairy tale wedding complete with reception at the country club with a live band. It took up 2 pages in the Sunday Society section of my hometown paper. My sibs and cousins and I like to think that we financed her wedding with all the money we spent in his store.
