I don't know you all that well personally, but you are a member that I respect a great deal on these boards. You are honest, classy, and educated. In short, you're the shit!

Maybe I need to see a picture since we keep talking about all your hottness. :D ;)

ZTAMich 03-02-2005 01:12 AM

Rashid,

If I could pick who would be the sub for my Pre-K darlings when I'm out, I'd pick YOU. And I betcha my kids would admire you as much as I do! We have a fair amount of Greeks at our school, and a fabulous one such as yourself would fit right in!

Rashid, you KNOW you're my brother in L, F and S (espcially the F part). :) And I'm extremely proud of that. **hug**

astroaphi, I think there is a pic in the "Look At Me" thread in the Delta Sigma Theta forum.

ADqtPiMel 03-02-2005 01:44 AM

"It's not who you love. It's how."

From what I can see from your persona on GC, you are an amazing person who has done far more to promote your fraternity than the ones who are degrading you for your preferences.

Keep your head up.

Dionysus 03-02-2005 01:50 AM

Rashid,

Keep on staying true to yourself and forget about those haters. It's unfortunate that the very people who are supposed to have your back - don't. You make me proud to be an APhiO. I hope you know that we are by your side! *Hugs*

What a great quote. :)

Keep on fighting the good fight R. Just remember this quote:

Quote:

Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

MaMaBuddha 03-02-2005 07:10 PM

hey rashid,

keep doing what you are doing and that's making a difference. those that chose you to become a member in the first black fraternity thought that you could make a difference and you are making that difference.

you exemplifiy the perfect Alpha Man and if i wasn't a lesbian, perhaps....

:p

great locs think alike....

I definitely echo these sentiments! :)

I wouldn't doubt it. Shit, you intimidate even ME with your hotness.

PhiPsiRuss 03-02-2005 07:30 PM

Rashid,

If you have a family with thousands and thousands of brothers, a few gems like yourself will shine. And a few of the "crazy uncles in the basement" will also be there. When I think of Alpha, I prefer to think of gentlemen like yourself who give your brotherhood such a good name.

AKA_Monet, thank you for your kindness. The Alphas on GreekChat on the whole have chosen to ignore the issue when they are not telling me that I should have never been one. It's not all of them who are bashing me openly in PMs or blatantly on the boards, but there is tacit agreement from many of the rest. I am taking it to the public to end the taboo about the topic. I am a gay Alpha who is bashed by other Alphas and so long as I remain silent about it, it will keep happening. In terms of the profanity -- go through what I've been through and maybe you'd be profane, too. I won't apologize for the sentiments or the language. You thoughts are noted, however, and much appreciated.

All in all, I didn't expect to recieve so much positivity from my post. I know you all don't normally see the "Kennedy Street" side of me, but he's there and will come out when pushed too far. I will acknowledge that I am under EXTREME stress to get Lazarus out on time, and it's moments like this where I really feel the alone-ness of self-publishing. I've got to deal with final proofreads, a cover designer who is in Japan and answers his phone when he feels like it, and waiting for checks to clear at the bank....lol....it's been crazy. So when I come to GC (for entertainment mind you!) I don't expect to receive messages of intolerance in my inbox.

So that's why I'm still taking the path that I mentioned in the first post. I'm not going to the Alpha forum and I'm not taking any PMs from Alphas. They all know how to get at me if they need to speak to me, but as far as GC goes, I've got nothing to say.

I am far too hot for the foolishness.

I thank you all for the love, for real. :D

I think you are far too hot also...

Also, many of the BGLO's need to own up to their members they have in them, including my own Sorority... Don't get me wrong, I love my AKA, like any other BGLO loves their org. However, we take in some fools that act a fool, then we take noble men, such as yourself that portray the quintessence of what "fraternity" out to be--especially in the African American community...

I like the Alpha room when there are folks in there. I've known some guys there a long time. However, it hurts to see that you are mocked for how you choose to live, out in the open as a gay black man that is an Alpha that came in through legal processes... What is wrong with your picture? You are working in your chapter, starting on your career as a writer and you get flack from your brothers????

How strongly do you feel about revocation of your membership? Because that can happen... But my question is why? And would you let some fools get the best of you like that there? Hey, some of my own chapter sorors act foolish to me ALL the time and I am a 15 year member!!!

Sistermadly: *Standing Ovation* If I agreed with you any more, we'd be the same person. :)

Taualumna: Thanks Cynthia! Hey, don't forget to keep me in the loop about your project.

AstroAPhi: "You're the shit" is probably my favorite compliment in life. :D And oh yeah, I've got plenty pics on my website in the gallery -- just click the little "www" at the end of my posts.

ZTAMich, do you know that Pre-K is the ONLY grade I haven't subbed for yet??? I really want to, but they keep getting other subs!

33girl: Awwwww. Yeah, the S is why I pledged, but the F is why I stayed. ;)

ADqtPiMel: Thank you so much....I am going to save that quote (and many others from this thread) and keep them someplace safe if I ever need to be reminded again.

Dionysus: I really appreciate what you said. And I've been reflecting a lot on how unconditional the love from my APO brothers has been, in good times and in bad.

moe.rom: We talked before, but I love this quote too. Thank you man.

MaMaBuddha, you KNOW you are my girl. I really have so much respect for you and in many ways, you're like a role model in what I strive to be as a gay Greek.

texas*princess, I appreciate the echo. I feel your good vibes.

PhiPsiRuss, I nearly spit my water out on my keyboard at the "crazy uncle in the basement" remark. I appreciate the positivity man, I really do.

AKA_monet, as usual, I am feeling everything you're saying. We're here: -----><------- I just want you to know that I don't consider my decision (based strictly on Greek Chat) to be a revocation of my membership. It might seem like I'm turning my back on bros, but as I said, GC is entertainment, networking, and potential friendships. I don't come to GC to be beat up on, so I'm eliminating that aspect of my experience.

However, it does make me pause to think about all of our Greek sisters and brothers who may have been shunned over the years and now are no longer active. Can't say that I blame them if I am experiencing a fraction of what they went through.

But anyway.....I am sincerely humbled by the outpouring of support that everyone in this thread has shown me. I really didn't think that this would get more than five replies before it sank to the bottom of Chit Chat. It's nice to know that so many people on this site can identify with my "internet persona" -- which is no different from the real Rashid. I admire and appreciate so many of you.

I hope one day you all will realize how much this thread has meant to me, especially this week of all weeks.

Have a good one, folks!
